I recently purchased a Cary Audio DMS 700, which replaced an Auralic Aries G1 and Benchmark DAC3 HGC. I find the Cary to have a more 'analog' sound, lovely. Very well built. I am surprised to never see Cary's components on this site...
Help me select few vinyl LPs
I had read awhile ago that 'Jazz at the Pawnshop', which was recorded in Stockholm Sweden in 1976, is one of the best quality jazz recordings ever. Quite a feat for a live performance. I bought a copy few years ago, a double vinyl. It is wonderful...
Tube preamp options
I am currently using a Canary Audio C630 tube preamp. Had a Decware Torii Junior amp, wanted a little more gain. Tried the RP-7, far less output. Turns out the C630 is the base of the sound I have. Simply delicious! Like a gourmet meal. Upped powe...
Rouge Audio RP-7
I bought a Rogue RP-7, summer of 2020, to replace a Canary Audio C630 tube preamp. Reason being I had purchased a Decware Torii Junior, and whereas I very much enjoyed the liquid sound, just couldn’t push output beyond 90dB at listening distance, ...

30 to 50 watts seems to be all I desire
Another component to this topic is the input/output sensitivity of preamp/amp. I had a Decware Torii Junior, 20 wpc, with a preamp, Canary C630, max gain of 9db. Couldn't get over 90db volume (at 10') with preamp wide open. Tried a Rogue Audio RP-...
Speaker Positioning
Exact measurements become irrelevant when you don't have a bilaterally symetrical room. My system is in a 'sunken' living room. Right side has a large window behind the speaker, and a very large picture window to the right along the wall. Left spe...
What am I missing? Pre/power gain and input sensitivity.
<I've been reading some of these discussions, and had to chime in here, as I've been trying to get to the bottom of what constitutes a good match preamp to amp as well. I am finding it comes down to gain, output impedence of pream...
