Bdgregory,Yes I have tried hand spinning the platter before activating on/off switch. It doesn't work :(I removed one of the caps (I'm pretty sure they are not electrolytic), took it to the DIY electronic store and it tested as good as a new cap.T...

Many thanks for the responses. Rather than waste mote time on a futile exercise, I got in touch with the distributor and he suspected a faulty cartridge. So a replacement is on the way.Thanks again guys.beck

Can the string that loops around the stylus tip of the Decca London Gold cartridge be adjusted for tension, say, if I wanted to pull the stylus tip backwards, or loosen it so it moves forward. In teeny increments, of course.
