So, from what I read..."Not enough room in my stripper girlfriends rack because of her upgrade, my wife found out and won't let me keep it (or the girlfriend). So to my wife I say that I only opened it up once to play with the upgrade and then I p...

Budget tube amps and integrateds?
Thanks for the feedback guys. I've been very tempted on both the Cayin TA-30 followed up by the Sophia Baby, so it is good to hear a positive about the Cayin. But there are a lot of used options in this price range - the other integrated I am inte...
DIY Speaker Kits - Suggestions.
Great post - everyone thanks for the information! I have been thinking about building my own speakers as well.I don't have any building experience yet, but another site that isn't listed that I found for kits, drivers and other components is:http:...
why distortion and what is the cure
I listened to some Totems last Thursday, they were quite lovely. I was surprised by how much bass the Rainmaker bookshelf speakers made. I also listened to the Arro and Forest. All very good sounding speakers. But, in regards to the Totems, they a...
why distortion and what is the cure
You're right Fatparrot, a guitarist can use the distortion from a tube amp to create various sound effects, but that is in a totally different environment and setup than a home system. In fact, some guitar amps will include this "sound" to be adde...
Bass Response Help
Well my first thought would be are the cable/connections in phase? Maybe try to swap the +/- connections at the amp or on one speakers just to be sure. If the bass tightens up or returns, you probably found the problem. That would be my first step...
why distortion and what is the cure
I'd have to agree with Edesilva's last comment, it sounds as if you have hit the output limits of your system. Many systems are at or near peak output at the 1-2 o'clock positions. And tube sound typically goes downhill very fast once you hit peak...
Stereo amp upgrade path?
Hello again,Let's start with the DAC, or Digital-to-Analog Converter. A DAC converts the bits of data from a disk, whether CD or DVD, to analog form. The analog form is then amplified by the preamp and amp functions of your separates or receiver.B...
Stereo amp upgrade path?
I'd have to agree with most of the responses so far, especially Avguygeorge & merge03@yahoo.com. From what I read and/or understand from your message, sound quality is important to you, not necessarily features. And there are some minor constr...
Any advice on car audio?
Hi, I'm going to throw my little bit of my reality here. I've been doing systems for my car for over 25 years, and still enjoy it quite a bit. I started my career performing car installations, though I have moved on to other technologies. And thou...
PC to Integreated Amp Dedicated Card or not?
Hi, I'm doing something very similar to what you are inquiring. As you say, for detailed, focused listening, a quality CD player is best. I am using a Meridian for my primary listening, but for background, music, for parties (which I've done twice...
platinum audio vs. soliloquy vs. dunlavy?
Well, I can't recommend any of the speakers to you, as you know this a a personal choice regarding sound. I've had the similar problem for the last three years, 2 babies and dealing with audio in the room/house. The kids are 2 1/2 and 18 months, j...
Where might I find cheater plugs?
I'm going to have to ask, why not replace the outlet with a grounded outlet? Minimal expense, you were at Home Depot already, and you could probably do it yourself. Other than that, pull the grounding pin as Albertporter suggested. If you have a f...
