"Warm Sounding" Solid State Amplifiers
IMP the Clayton amps are never brittle, or hard sounding. I've heard them in a variety of systems and they combine the best qualities of SS and tubes. Compared to many SS offerings I suppose that makes them a "warmer" amp. They're expensive, but a...
Sealed / Front-ported monitor recommendations
I'm listening to great sound with Audio Note ANKs with silver wire and a Rel Strata 111. Both are sealed-acoustic suspension design. I've always preferred sealed boxes-very tuneful bass. IMO. I'm driving them with an LFD MK 3.
Subwoofer for LFD NCSE suggestions
I'm using an LFD MK 3 with Rel Strata 3. The Rel attaches directly to speaker outputs on LFD. Mains are Audio Note AN/Ks w/silver wire. It's a great system, and I've had 3 pc "satellite" systems that cost much more.
Dynaudio C-1 or Harbeth-7-es-III
I've owned both, and both are excellent. I'm using the Harbeth now. The official Dyn stands that the C1s use are a pain to fill/unfill. Harbeth's are much easier--just bluetack to Sound Anchor/Skyland. I tried tubes with C1s--SS much better(Clayto...
Is anyone using Harbeth speakers with a sub-woofer
I'm using a Rel Strata 3 with the newest Compact 7's in a 15' x 20' x 8' room. Great Sound. I've also used a Rell Storm 3 with Dyn C-1's in same room. I enjoy the Harbeth's more, and I prefer the Strata to the Storm because the Stata is a sealed sub.
Non-ported sealed cabinet speakers
The old Peter snell Type Q, and Audio Note AN/K with silver wire-I'm looking for a pair right now. They're both great. They are both stand mounts.
Dynaudio C1 + Mcintosh 275 amp, do they match?
I heard C1s with a Mac 275 at a dealer. My Clayton S-40 (all of 50 watts) did a much better job. Just as musical with more strength, power, speed, and control, particularly from the mids on down. My room is 15' x 20' x 8'. The pre I was using was ...
Creek Integrateds for Harbeth monitor?
I am driving a pair of Harbeth P3ES-2s with a Destiny. CDP is a Meridian 508.24 with very good wires and stands. I have not heard the P3s with any other amps but the Destiny is working quite well. Plenty of power and quite musical.
140wpc into 8 ohms: enough for Contour 1.3SEs?
I'm using a Rel Storm lll with my 1.3SEs. My room is 15 by 20, and I listen at moderate levels--classical and jazz. I like it. BTW, I'm driving the Dyns very nicely with 50 watts--Clayton S40.
Preamp for Clayton Audio S40?
I'm running an S40 with an Audible Illusions L-2. A superb combination. They're driving a pair of Snell Qs (older snell monitor speakers) with a Rel Storm III. The music is there.
