Input Requested on Possible Amp Change
Swampwalker...thanks for the reply. As I've mentioned my only issue is that the amps in my system produce enough volume with my somewhat less efficient than average, but great sounding speakers; so I can hear all the detail. My ears may be a littl...

Zd542...Thanks again for your input. I will check out the VAC amps. What do you think of Carver's recent tube amps? They look great, certainly have watts to spare, and the review's are pretty positive. People tend to love him or hate him but uh, w...

Polk 432...I agree. The Cary CAD 500 MB amps are great SS amps with head room for days. I will be disappointed if I buy a tube unit(s) and I don't like the sound better but nothing ventured...nothing gained. As I mentioned I live in a place where ...

Mechans, Polk432, ZD542... Thanks for your input. I think I'll be buying a tube unit(s) in the near future. The heat issue concerns me for two reasons. One...heat is the enemy of all things electric so reliability comes into play. Two... I use a c...

Thanks for the reply. I do like to go loud sometimes, but I am not a bass nut. I like tight, authentic bass but not overbearing bass. I am leaning toward the Qaud ii-80 right now. There is a V-12 out there but I keep seeing "some" people complain ...

I hear you. I've read some reviews where some think the CAD 120 runs way hot. One guy said he felt the need to replace the enclosure with one that had more vents in it. What is your experience with this unit as far as heat?PS I've recently seen on...
PC audio newbie looking for advice
To Dtc, Kenney, and Lewinski...et al, Thanks again for your responses. I am going to start with some of my CD's first and them try some vinyl. Probably won't get to it until after Jan. 1 for obvious reasons. If you think of anything else of intere...

Zd542. Your idea seems plausible. A turntable has to convert analog data into digital data to burn it onto CD. Are you saying that I can simply hook a CD burner up to the second pair of preamp outputs (which are provided for a powered subwoofer or...

Thanks for your input Kenny. Jriver is one of the programs on my list. The internet press seems to think it overly complicated and favors mediamonkey. Agon seems to favor jriver though. Do you know if the jremote app only comes with a media player...

Thanks for the input Lewinski01. I will check Lynx out.

I do not have a stand alone phono preamp. My phono preamp is built into my tube preamp, a Cary SLP-98p F1, and is a good sounding unit. The 98 has dual outputs so I'm thinking your idea is doable. Teac makes a unit that you describe. It's price po...
Help? Possible problem with my McCormack dna-125.
Hey Stereo5. I checked out your system and I couldn't help but notice that your Odyssey speakers look nearly identical to my Unity Audio speakers. Same size and speaker configuration. Different wood but nice. I am going to try your granite trick s...
Help? Possible problem with my McCormack dna-125.
Thanks for the reply. I would not say ear bleeding loud. I would say loud as in you would have to double the volume of your voice to have a conversation while the music is playing loud. I was playing Stevie Ray Vaughn's greatest hits the last time...
A major disconnect between the audiophile magazine
I think the BS and the Chutzpah are the best power amp and preamp anywhere, regardless of price!
Best Line Conditioner
Yo Erasto. IMHO expensive power conditioner mfr's prey on the well known audiophile bias toward more $$$$ equals better performance. This may have some merit with speakers, amps, and players but the point of diminishing returns is reached quite qu...
