Too much power?
It's true, many home listening is at an average 1w with mid-sensitivity speakers in a medium-small room at 70SPL.  And listening to level-compressed popular music requires an instantaneous headroom of between 3 and 10dB, which is 2w to 10w max wit...

Thanks, Jetter.  Trying to be helpful (after 60+ years as an audio professional), I've published a book on the Phonograph to get the most from the groove.

Well-recorded digital can sound better than "vinyl"...but typically it doesn't if it's highly processed for lowest common denominator (LCD) replay, as is most pop music for earbuds, cars, & boomboxes. But with high quality replay, over-process...

I'm surprised by the number of "data deniers" in this thread, some saying they prefer "just listening to music."  You can do both.  Attending to the technical can only make your enjoyment of the music better.  Such as by eliminating distortion art...

From the beginning of the hi-fi hobby in the 1950s, "performance characteristics" WERE tests results.  Trade magazines used 3rd party labs (Hirsch-Hauck etc.) as independent evaluators.  And for decades my policy was not to buy anything that did n...
