Mrtennis you are correct. Unfortunate for me I once heard a very good system at a showroom that sounded rich, clear and three dimensional. I have never been able to recreate that sound in my home.BTW: I just listed the Vandersteen speakers for sal...

Thank you all for the excellent replies. I replaced the Vands with an old pair of Vandy1c's and the sound improved. Highs not crisp or thin, midrange solid but not the depth I' m looking for.The room is 20 feet square with a vaulted ceiling 15 fee...

Thank you to everyone for the information. Will stick with the MacBook and use the Maverick Audio TubeMagic D2 DAC.It may take some time but I will post a review when finished.

Thanks for the responses. Meriwan : you have summed up the sound perfectly with the word flat. Phaelon: the room has a cathedral ceiling with a "wall unit" that's 8 feet high. Above the center of the wall unit the ceiling peaks at roughly 18 feet....

They sound compressed, with poorly extended highs, colored midrange and minimal base. 
Shorting the speaker wires
Received the amp back and it sounds great. It took 2 weeks and $550 but I'm happy for not having to ship the unit to ARC. Thanks for all the comments.

Well it's August 10th and the electronic repair store says they need more parts and have them on order.Can someone suggest a thin, flexible, good value speaker wire.Thank you.
