advice for Von Schweikert vr-1's If you can stretch your budget to around $1k, you can pick up a used Unison Research Unico. I use one with a Sony NS999ES with my VR-1's/VRS-1 combo with excellent results(even better after installing NOS Mullard 5960/CV4003's).

Can speakers be too good? Price has nothing to do with good sound(with-in reason). It's all about system synergy. I personally chose some Von Schweikert VR-1 monitors over some used Revel Gem's, JM Labs Micro Utopia's and Dynadio 25 Specials after hearing them in my system...
Best Bookshelf Speakers The VA's are warm sounding, then JMR's are pretty neutral, and the Totem's can be a little foward. These 3 cover a pretty wide spectrum as far as tastes goes and build quality is excellent. |
