Ortofon SPU, cased or nude? The SPU G shell carts get much of the effective mass they need from the integrated headshell. They weigh around 30g dependant on model. The naked N-series carts still need that mass so you'll need a very heavy headshell/tonearm combination to get ...
SUT advice I've been through this recently for SPU Spirit and SPU Royal and tried a few SUT's at various price points.I found the Denon AU300LC resonablly well balanced but loses a lot of detail, the Ortofon Verto played the age old trick of being overly bri...
What brand did you leave Rega for? I went from a Rega Planar 2 (my first TT) to a Pink Triangle, retaining the RB250 tonearm on the PT. This was about 25 years ago though and there have been many more since then! The PT was a massive step-up from the Rega at the time.
Question on FR 66s Would the same geo suggested for the FR64s work for the FR64fx? More specifically I'm thinking about optimum geo for the FR64fx with an SPU.
Lyra Atlas compared to Lyra Titan i Lovely collection. What tonearm are you using with the Lyra's Syntax?
New Raven AC Owner I've not experimented with mats yet although I do have a few from previous projects and tables to try out.
New Raven AC Owner I've been sent a manual but it only mentions the 'standard belt' with motor placed at 320-330mm. The belt feels a little stretched at that distance though.
VTF issues I had to return 2 samples of RS212D due to sloppy bearings. They sounded terrible.
Technics SP-10 MKIIA tonearms If you can get hold of a mk3 at a sensible price then at the very least it's an investment given the way mk3 prices are going. Would make a very lovely table with a bit of TLC.
New Raven AC Owner I just measured the spindle to motor pulley distance at ~280mm so definitely not the long belt. I probably have the correct belt after all!
New Raven AC Owner Yes I had the AS212s on the Technics before the Jelco. Very similar in sound (I know the 750d and 375h very well too on other tables and they all sound quite similar). The increased effective mass of the 12" versions work well with the SPU though ...
Ortofon 309 vs. SME 3012 for SPUs I had did have the RS212D briefly but had to return 2 samples due to loose bearings unfortunately. I ended up with the AS212S as that one in the shop was ok. It was a nice arm on my SP10 with an SPU and various other carts. I changed to the 750L t...
New Raven AC Owner Thanks all for your kind responses. This is very helpful to me as I do not have a set-up manual.I was told by a dealer that there are actually 3 belts. Shortest for rear mounting a single motor. Short for left side mounting of a single motor and t...
Technics SP-10 MKIIA tonearms You can even fit the Jelco SA-750lb 12" onto the SH-B3 "Obsidian" plinth. I had to make a new armboard from aluminum plate though and you need to measure precisely to get the correct spindle/pivot while ensuring you get the arm as far to the right...
Ortofon 309 vs. SME 3012 for SPUs The Spirit is a very nice SPU and I agree the price/performance is a sweet spot. Most are sold and they are super rare outside Japan. I've only very briefly compared them but I liked my Royal GM more. Once I can get a rear tonearm up and running o... |
