Looking for a new phono preamp A great value for an outstanding phone pre is the PH-16 from Valve Tube Audio. It is sold as a kit, but I had mine built for me by Troy, and with a Lundahl SUT added for low output moving coil carts, the price was around $1200. Without the SUT it ...
REFERENCE 3A De Capo BE I've had a pair of MM DeCapo-i speakers since 2003. Have used with an Anthem Amp 1 (40 watts EL34 tubes), and now with a Granite Audio Aspen 800 (8 watt 300B SET). They are uniquely wonderful. I was perfectly happy without a sub for over 10 years,...

Reference 3A choices? I use the de Cappo-i with and 8 watt SET amp from Granite Audio (Aspen 800). It's wonderful. Previously I used a 40 watt Anthem AMp 1, and that worked, too, but I love the SET sound. Definately the de Cappo over the dulcet or veena, although the v...
Power amp for Reference 3A speakers? I'm using an Anthem Amp 1 (40 watts EL34 tubes) and Anthem Pre 2L. They sound great and I have lots of headroom on the power (I never get past 10 o'clock on my preamp volume. Good bass, great mids and highs.

The best speaker you ever heard? I heard them where I bought my Ref 3A deCapo-i speakers. It was a large basement room that was about 17 wide and 28-30 feet long. The speakers were about 8 feet apart, 5-6 feet from the back wall, and I was probably 10-12 feet from the speakers. I...
The best speaker you ever heard? The Grand Veena...Coherence, I knew there was a word I was forgetting. They were magnificent loud, and it was impossible to ignore even at low volumes. You're lucky to own them- I have the deCapo-i from Reference 3A, and I love them, but they are ...
The best speaker you ever heard? Reference 3A Grand Veena. Why? Accuracy. Imaging. Big sound. Speed. I'm sure there are better speakers, but I'm not sure any of them cost $8000 or less. |
