Best speaker design for low to mid volume?
Quad ESLs. I have the 988, and it's magical at low volume (and restricted low frequency extension is actually a blessing in a condo). Not exactly pretty, tho, if WAF is an issue. The Audio Physic Virgos I once owned were good at low volumes, and b...
Owners of Pass Labs XA30.5
Much also depends on how loud you like to listen. I use my 30.5 with Dynaudio Confidence C-1s, and they sound great and the needle never moves. But then, I live in an apartment, so not pushing the envelope.

Quad 989 repair - California

Tube preamp for Pass Labs amp
I'll echo the other two posts for the Calypso. I'm using one now with my XA-30.5 with great results.

re Wireless: I have been using an Airport Express to send my music wirelessly from iMac in one room to audio rig in a different room. Digital files made by iTunes (with error correction selected in prefs) in Apple Lossless (the Express converts ev...

I'm making exactly this transition right now. First, spend more time thinking about the interface. With CDs, you just walked over to your shelf and grabbed the disc, probably based on your familiarity with the color of the spine, and the location ...
Any integrated amps with dac and 2 spkr outputs?
Well, the Outlaw RR 2150 fits the bill, although it's technically a "receiver" and its DAC only has USB in (not optical or coax). I'm currently using mine to drive two sets of speakers from the on-board DAC.
Recommend used digital source for $3K used
Mark Levinson 390S. I'm a very happy owner -- it has an integrated volume control, balance, phase, as well as digital inputs, so it can replace a preamp in an all digital system. It would be very difficult to get separates (DAC, transport, preamp)...
