Anyone use Mackie HR824 Studio monitors as stereo I use the HR624 Mkii for stereo. They are just terrific. So clear and uncolored and will play very loud. Bass is decent for the size (6.5 woofer).
Bookshelf speakers for $500ish I'd try powered studio monitors. I have Equator D5s now and they are quite good, although with 5" woofers the bass is light. You also avoid the cost of a power amp. I have not heard any passive speakers in that price range that are as good as the ...
What Is Your Favorite Vintage Amplifier? Dyna ST 70. I had that I modified with the Van Alstine upgrade which replaced the tube power supply with a transistor one and replaced all the components with better quality ones. It seemed to sound better - the power supply upgrade probably impro...
Does AC Power Cord to Linear Power Supply matter? Of course not.
Speakers vs. headphones It is a matter of taste, of course. If you want the most analytical detail, good headphones can't be beat. They also produce bass which is unaltered by room modes, thus often smoother and clearer in the bass. Speakers, by comparison, are much more...
XLR or RCA? For long runs, rule of thumb being 50 feet, XLR will pick up less interference (less noisy), but in general there will be no real (measurable), as opposed to perceived, (subjective) difference. XLR is used by pros as it is can be used in long runs...
Best Soundcards for PC or MAC Any decent sound card will work and sound indistinguishable from the silly and expensive external DACs that people waste money on. I'd look for good connectors and pro-quality build like my EMU PCI card.
Anybody have an actively multi-amplified system? Yes - if you want loud and clean at the same time, it is the best way to go. I have Mackie HR624mk2 monitors - internally biamped with 100w for the woofers and 40w for the tweeters - and a Velodyne powered subwoofer. Tri-amped! When I started fool...
Best speaker choice under $1000? I always recommend powered studio monitors in preference to audiophile speakers - I'd argue they:are better value sound better (more accurate which pros demand, for example since they are powered the amplifier frequency responses can be tailored t...
waveguide speakers As indicated above, Geddes is an expert on this. I have heard that Genelec was the first to produce speakers with waveguides. I have Mackie HR624mkiis that have waveguides and love them - way better than the "audiophile" speakers I have owned in t...
The Worst Speaker you have ever heard. The one in my phone.
Big, big room -- which 10-20k speakers? I'd consider powered studio monitors like those from Genelec and Equator Audio. No audiophile speaker can match bi or tri amped professional monitors for accuracy at high volumes -Equator Audio Q15 -Description: Powered 15 2-way Reference Monitor... |
