Proceed VS Sherbourn need help
Proceed VS Sherbourn is like comparing very yummy apples to... well... decent apples.Sherbourne is great budget gear - I had the monoblocks and the only reason I sold them was because the "auto-turnoff" circuitry annoyed me in my HT at low volumes...
Best Preamp under $1000-need 2 sets of RCA outs
Second the Anthem Pre 2L - I wish I'd never sold mine. Later I got a more expensive Cary, but it wasn't as good a performer as the Anthem in my room/system. They can be had cheap (<600) - a killer product.
Good HT, bad 2 channel. On Budget, Any advise?
I think you'd get further, faster, getting some speakers more suitable for two channel audio right away and driving them with your current receiver. I don't know what kind of decor or WAF you have to deal with, but I wouldn't rule out trying some ...
Thoughts on Coda gear? Any Coda owners out there?
I had a Continuum Stage+ for a while. I sold it on audiogon. I've been sorry ever since. Coda makes absolute top flight gear - high class A bias - sounds just super! I wish the guy I sold mine to would sell it back to me for the same amount! Now I ...
Suggestions for HT recieiver with Pre-outs.
Costco had the Pioneer 711 for $200 recently. I was sorry I'd already spent more on a receiver - it should meet your pal's needs very nicely.I WOULD trip on pre-outs. It's nice to upgrade a step at a time... That way you're not splitting the budge...
Subwoofer slam vs boom
I think being turned up too loud is the biggest reason for a sub sounding bad. Your subs are terrific quality, so that isn't the problem.Move them. Try them in the same corner. Try opposite corners but moving one one of them out a little from the ...
Anthem Pre 2L tube rolling question
Paul/Yowser: Could one of you break the tie by saying "I'm 100% positive that I'm the one who heard Kevin Deal right"?Back pair = closer to rear panel. Front pair = closer to front panel.Thanks. Dozer
Do new tubes undergo break-in like other devices?
Astonishing that you could attribute the brightness in your system to a wall outlet that had gradually broken in. My hat's off to your aural acuity and deductive powers. Well done... For me probably wouldn't help because darn if I can't keep the r...
B&K ST2140 or Odyssey Stratos 150?
I don't own an Odyssey product, but I hang out on boards where Odyssey owners are.I don't think there's a vendor or designer or manufacturer anywhere in the world who is held in higher regard by his customers than Klaus Bunge. You don't have to wo...
What's better 100w class a or 200w class ab?
Great topic. Please answer the following similar question too if you'd be so good:For the same money, would you prefer Class A to 35W/AB to 100W -or- Class A to 10W/AB to 200W?I have the former and can switch to the latter (same amp biased differe...
Do new tubes undergo break-in like other devices?
A new power cord needs time to open up?????!!What does this mean? How does it open up? I didn't know powercords "opened up"...I'm not going to a DBT zone or saying wires don't matter. I just want to know what to listen for if I buy a superpowercor...
Using A/V receiver as pre-amp?
Yeah it will work temporarily or permanently for that matter. But your system will sound markedly better when you get a bonafide preamp for music (unless you have one helluva an AV receiver). Use the receiver for a while, so you can really take yo...
Luxman receiver info wanted
Thanks Lolo - YGM.
What's so bad about Sovtek 6922s?
I'm going to put the BugleBoys back in there and try to play them longer. They were freshly swapped in when I noticed the lack of bass, so maybe that was part of it. I can't tell from Joe's Tube Lore if they're genuine. They do have the four parti...
Buying and Selling of feedback
Thanks all of you for your responses. This note is to give props to Audiogon management.I first mentioned this issue to Audiogon several weeks ago over a commercial ad that was running, and I didn't think Audiogon did anything.I was wrong. Audiogo...
