New records should be cleaned as well as used records. There is always a trace of release agent left in the grooves after pressing. If not removed before playing the heat of the stylus will make the residue permanent. I have used VPI record cleane...

There is no reason to stay away. Gunther makes a great product and is constantly improving it. He is a wonderful machinist and an avid audiophile....also fun to be around. His tonearms are excellent also.

VPI JMW grounding issue
If you have access to a amp meter, you can check continuity of the wires in the arm tube and loop to junction box. It sounds to me one of these wires is making contact with the arm tube or box.

Hi Charlie, nice to hear a Brit speak Italian....just kidding. BTW you might try Discovery Cable Essence Balanced. I own Pass gear and several of the personnel at Pass use this same cable. It works extremely well.Ciao Bello 
How should I rewire my RB700?
Discovery Cable offers a total rewire (cart. clips to RCA's or XLR's) for $250.00+shipping. You should check them out. There wire is used in the Triplanar and Durand tonearms. 
Ground loop hum from Turntable
You mention the TT is near or next to the TV. This might be the culprit. Most newer TV's are always on, even when in the off position and generate EMI which your TT might be picking up. You might try unplugging the TV and see if the hum goes away.... 
why do companies charge double for xlr cables?
Because they can is a good answer. Although a good XLR with gold pins is only slightly more expensive then some RCA's and considerabley less then the better ones. So this is not a good reason. The extra wire thing....well that's the manufacturers ...
