Thanks all for the input.Zd542, you ask a great question and my only answer is that I don't think anything is wrong at all. I'd like to get a fuller sound at lower volume and was thinking it was a power related thing. I'll experiment with low risk...

Thanks folks, I checked the cartridge connections, all good. I'll swap the cartridge next. I'm hoping that the ptg/ii isn't defective. if it is, balz ! it's only time and money.thanks again

Thank everyone for feedback and advise. I now have an AT33PTG/ii. I don't know much but so far so good after 25+ hrs. This is really a nice cartridge.Chris

thanks for the reply. I was reading that the Ortofon's were testing much higherthan 5.5 mV & thought it would cause an issue with the phono stage. damn, i hate being a newbchris
