SPL Phonos Phono Preamp Managed to find one used for a $1250. Looking forward to giving it a listen. Kind of stumbled upon this and a few other threads reviewing it favorably after getting pushed into needing a separate phono due to buying a faulty Ambrosia 2000 (non-SE)...
SST Ampzilla 2000 v2 vs Son of Ampzilla II Noticed I never followed up. The buzzing ended up being from a Roku I had plugged into the same electrical circuit. Seems to be a common issue with Rokus. They really need to be grounded and just aren't. Just found an Ambrosia 2000 PreAmp to go al...
SST Ampzilla 2000 v2 vs Son of Ampzilla II I ended up getting the Son of Ampzilla II from Underwood, but there is a faint buzzing. It is on both channels regardless of what preamp or input source. :-(
Dunlavy SC-IVas speaker grill reupholstering Honestly. Yes. I did them one at a time so I could test the difference. Both the original fabric and the new impacted the sound. Both before and now, I'll remove them when listening. If I can find a fabric that doesn't, I'd definitely switch, but ...

SST Ampzilla 2000 v2 vs Son of Ampzilla II I just see a biamp option on the back of the new 2000 v2.@jackd thanks for the heads up. I reached out to him and it looks like I could get better bang for my buck trade wise on a pair of Ampzilla 2000s than for the SOA2. The holidays are making i...
Dunlavy SC-IVas speaker grill reupholstering @celander thanks. I think so too. I figured with the white walls, they'd be a bit less obtrusive dressed in tan.
SST Ampzilla 2000 v2 vs Son of Ampzilla II @roberjerman aren't the 2000s the Monoblocks?
Dunlavy SC-IVas speaker grill reupholstering Did them in Osnaburg. Basically like burlap but not as coarse (read: less "fuzzy"). I've read that the fuzz of burlap could dampen highs so I went with the Osnaburg instead.
How did I do on this Amp? @Shakeydeal: I am wondering what you mean by "lifeless sounding" - are you saying that it doesn't flavor the music? By all I've read they reportedly do a pretty decent job at recreating the original sound of recordings without flavoring them.@No-m...
Speaker Recommendation for AR SP-3 pre w/ ML 332 I didn't have a lot of time, so I had to act on the ML ReQuests. Ended up getting them and the Logos Center for 2k, but by what I have managed to dig up, it seems like these should work well with my space and setup. |
