turntable for daughter
It may depend a bit on your daughter's age, but the entry/mid-level Projects are a good bet for someone just starting out.  I went with the Project T1 for my teenager last year after they asked for a turntable for Christmas but rejected both my be...
Which turntable
I’m really sorry to hear about your illness. You can buy a replacement tonearm for the Project I expression II from Analogue Seduction here: https://www.analogueseduction.net/tonearms/pro-ject-replacement-tonearms-spare-parts.html. The replacement...
Integrated amp comparison/recommendation
I can't speak to the Torii Mk4, but I have the ZMA--one step up from the Mk4--and it is staggeringly good.  If you can try the Torii, you should definitely do so.
MM Cartridge Talk
With the caveat that other components in my systems were constantly evolving at the same time, I would put the Clearaudio Charisma 2 at the top of MM/MI cartridges I’ve had or heard. With the best being:Clearaudio Charisma v2Soundsmith The Voice C...
What's been your turntable ownership over the years?
2009-Modern entry level table of some sort, so eminently forgettable that I have, in fact, forgotten it despite living with it for three years.2012-Thorens TD 160 BC /ADC LMF-2 arm2014-Thorens TD 125 Mk.2/ SME 3009 ii Imp.2016-Clearaudio Champion/...
Turntable upgrade?
+1 on the SOTA Sapphire (and the Soundsmith with it), which as noted is pretty unflappable and a beautiful table. You can also get a nicely plinthed Thorens TD 125 in that price range; and unlikely to be disappointed by it, particularly if you add ...
Thorens TD 124 or TD 125 MK.
I agree that you should keep both of the Thorens if you can. I have four Thorens tables, and have owned or played with plenty of other nice tables for comparison. The TD 124 is hands down the best of the lot, and the gap between it and the TD 125 ...
van den Hul Colibri, Koetsu Rosewood Signature, SoundSmith Sussurro Mk ii
Thanks, Agrippa.  Applying the formula on the Moerch arm/cartridge matching site, both the colibri xgw and the sussurro mk ii should work well with the DP6 yellow arm. I had focused on the Koetsu Rosewood when I originally planned to get the blue ...
van den Hul Colibri, Koetsu Rosewood Signature, SoundSmith Sussurro Mk ii
Thanks, Agrippa, this is very helpful.
Recommended Sennheiser or Bose Headphones
After burning through 4 pairs of Bose headphones in the space of a few years, and having all of them break or die with alarming speed, I finally shifted to Sennheiser several years ago. The improvements in both quality and sound are staggering and...
van den Hul Colibri, Koetsu Rosewood Signature, SoundSmith Sussurro Mk ii
Thanks, lancelock. I have a SoundSmith The Voice that I really love, and the Sussurro is apparently a step up from both that and the Paua. The ES is another evolution still, so I have no idea how a Paua ii ES would compare to the earlier Sussuro ii.
Is a Music Hall MMF 9.1 a significant upgrade over a Thorens TD 160 mk ii?
Thanks, boofer,Your experience would seem to bear out my own sense of how far up the MMF/Pro-ject lines I would like need to go to find a significant improvement over the TD 160.
