Is There An "Absolute" Best Cartridge? Wow, another thread goes bananas. Is this hobby about writing endless posts about cartridges, a never ending quest for a new (or new old stock) and improved sound, or about enjoying the music? It's SXSW time here in sunny Austin. Shortly I'll get ...
New $3500 Sumiko cartridge It's been almost a year since this post. I'm also interested in this cartridge. Anyone had experience with it?
Need to vent tube heat? Thanks for the replies. I had not really thought about ease of access to the fan(s). As to the A/C question, do you think it's a good idea, in terms of energy savings, to vent the heat out? Have any other hot climate audiogoners gone this route? T...
Need help with stereo cabinet design. Thanks for all the suggestions. It will definitely be a cabinet rather than a closet, given the room design and my desire to see the components when they are in use. I wonder if, when the cabinet is open, the heat will rise to the top, where it ca...
Anyone compared AR HD 220 to Accuphase P-7000? Have you considered an AR VS115? I love how it sounds with a REF 3 and CD7.In a head to head comparison with the HD 220 the 115 was clearly a winner for me. Certainly sounded more musical to me. Another option to consider.
RIP Eartha Kitt Sad news.In Sept. of 2007 I was in N.Y. for a bday party at the Carlyle Hotel. I was fortunate to see E.K. perform that night. She, already aged 80, wore a high slit dress and put on quite a show. She tastefully played her "sex kitten" role while ...
Audio Research REF-110 vs. HD-220 I suggest you also consider the VS-115. I am very happy with mine, paired with a REF 3 preamp. I also auditioned the 110 and the 220. I vastly prefer the 115 and 110 over the 220 and the 110 and 115 are very close to each other in sound though not...
REF3 with VS115 In my system, the REF 3 and 115 seem to do bass just right, certainly not overblown. My speakers, Dali MS5's, work well with this amplification, though they certainly need a large room. In a smaller space, I suppose the bass might be a bit overwhe...
REF3 with VS115 The 115, after approximately 150 hours of use, suffered a fairly catastrophic failure. A capacitor, or perhaps a resistor (it has been a while since high school physics), became overheated and flamed out rather dramatically. I returned the unit to...
REF3 with VS115 I have this exact combo and, after a problem with the 115 was resolved, I am quite happy with the sound. I listened to both the 115 and the Ref 110 and feel good about my choice. |
