whats the best way to reglue record covers
I just use simple Elmer's glue, (the blueish gel kind, not the white stuff) and just put a thin strip on the same line were the old glue was. The I lay a few heavy books on the edge of the cover for a day or so and they always seem to hold up well...
RF interference through my phono stage.
This is a common problem on many phono stages. The signal is most likely coming through the air as Almarg stated. One simple and effective solution is to attach a ferrite core to the ground wire between the turntable and the phono preamp stage. Yo...
Help in isolating a TT with spring suspension.
Chris,I understand your frustration. I've been there.I believe that you have 2 choices.First, use a different turntable. Secondly, look at the problem from a different perspective ( somehow make it work in the room)and find a way to utilize one of ...
Help in isolating a TT with spring suspension.
Have you verified (with a gauge)that the stylus is at the correct tracking force? If your table uses a "spring" anti-skating system, has its proper functioning been checked? The cartridge on the TT was professionally installed. It tracks light at 1...
Help in isolating a TT with spring suspension.
It's not about what you put under it, but about what you put it on ;-) And even if your "rack" is reasonably sturdy, the floor structure under the rack is probably what's bouncing (it's not a concrete slab is it!)Yes, I have an old house and my fl...

Requesting Cartridge Advice
Hello Kethoticus,Do consider getting an Audio Technica AT440MLa (the purple cartridge). I've used it for years. It's a great overall cartridge. It tracks light (1.5 grams) and it's capable of shimmering highs, so much so in fact that some complain...
Best Cartridges for the Money You've Experienced
Correction: "ONE of the best at any price". Realistically though, do you think everyone can afford to try ALL MM cartridges available? I'd rather collect LP's than cartridges, and I've found one that sounds great and does what I want after trying ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
"Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?"Those of us who can't afford the costs of MC cartridges, amps with MC inputs, outboard phono stages, etc. That's who.
Good mono cartridge for a very light tonearm
Sadly, I know the lack of choices out there for those of us who like to play mono LP's. I considered getting the Denon DL-102 but that was also too heavy for my table. A better question for me to ask might be "What turntable/arm will handle these ...
Best Cartridges for the Money You've Experienced
The Audio-Technica AT440MLa I just bought. Wow! What a difference over some other cartidges I've used, including some higher end makes that should be ashamed of themselves. This is the real thing! The magic of this cartridge is it's ability to play...
How often do you folks vacuum clean your albums?
Hmm... I have to clean a record first before I put it on a VPI machine? I would have hoped the VPI machine could do all the cleaning for me, considering how much it costs!Anyway, I rarely buy LP's in such condition that they would be in need of a ...
Help in reducing distortion from old mono records.
Thanks for the info JDaniel13,I agree that some pressings of LP's, even identical ones, can be very different from others. Just like some bottles of the same wine can be different, and just like wine, it does make it frustrating when you come acro...
Help in reducing distortion from old mono records.
Hello JDaniel13,When you said inner groove damage did you mean inner groove distortion? That's normal to some degree on LP's as it gets closer to the end grooves but it should be barely noticeable if at all. The distortion on the Ansermet LP I'm t...
Help in reducing distortion from old mono records.
To Johnss and Electroid,I know that playing a record with a bad stylus can damage the grooves, but The Fire Bird suite on side 1 of the record in question plays fine. It's the choral piece on side 2 that distorts, as I stated in my thread.I suppos...
