Your favorite Electrostatic, Panel spkr
When I was auditioning speakers 25 years ago, I listened to Acoustats (forget the model, but I think 3), SoundLab A1s, and Martin Logan Sequel 2s, Quests, and CLSs.To my ears, the Acoustats sounded nice, but dark compared to the MLs. The SoundLabs...
Magnepans or...Martin Logan
If OP lived in the US, I would vote ML. But I'm biased because I've owned MLs for over 25 years. While I like Maggie's, I prefer MLs due to their clarity and resolution, and lack of "Maggie slam". Having said that, MLs are very unforgiving of poor...
Best Record Cleaning Fluid
Decades ago I was discussing this topic with an audiophile record store owner near Ohio State. He had a chemist friend who came up with the following formula:1 gal of distilled water90 ml of isopropyl alcohol1 tsp of Alconox (a surfactant frequent...

Stumped by preamp-amp issues
@gochurchgo Yes, I plugged the ARC directly into the wall. No difference. I can try the preamp. However, right now I'm not having the issues with oscillations, so I doubt I would see/hear a difference. At this point, I'm just trying to figure out ...
Stumped by preamp-amp issues
@almarg I think you may be on to something. Perhaps there was a power problem due to the cord and replacing it fixed the issue. I do not know whether the 12B has output coupling capacitors, but I expect it does. In addition, my current house is so...
Stumped by preamp-amp issues
@djohnson54  Thanks. There are no shorts on the speaker connections.@roberjerman Back in the day, audiophiles were admonished not to turn the volume above 12 o'clock because equipment was at full gain at that point and going past 12 o'clock just p...
Cost Effective Sub Woofer
+1 for Hsu Research. I'm very pleased with my ULS-15 Mk 2. I have a similarly sized room with a vaulted ceiling. It has more output than I can use.
Soliciting Member Perspectives: Levinson vs Bryston vs Audio Research
Finally, a thread I can contribute to ...When I was auditioning equipment for my current system 25+ years ago, I compared Bryston and Levinson amps. I had a hard time hearing much difference between the Bryston 4B and whatever the corresponding Le...

What is the most $ you have spent on vinyl?
@inna Yep. Wish is my favorite Floyd album, followed by Meddle and Dark Side. Never got into Atom Heart Mother or Final Cut. I don't have that Japanese issue anymore, otherwise I'd look at the issue. Ex wife made me sell my vinyl collection: shade...
What is the most $ you have spent on vinyl?
@inna I can't compare to original UK pressing of Wish You Were Here, but I had a Japanese obi issue that sounded phenomenal. Came with posters and stickers, too, if you're into that stuff.
Have you ever changed speakers to expereince a different "soundscape" or presentation??
@bdp24 I'm in the same boat. I don't listen to the horns for critical listening, but they do rock better than the MLs.
Have you ever changed speakers to expereince a different "soundscape" or presentation??
I've owned MLs for decades and generally love them, but they really reveal limitations in recording quality. I recently bought some Klipsch Heresies and find a lot of classic rock is now much more fun to listen to, especially loud. I choose which ...
