1970's receivers and integrated amps...
i just love my Yamaha A-1 integrated amp from the very late 70s. while Yamaha's circuits are never "simple" in and of themselves, this was one of their simplest TOTL efforts. the design and execution is quite modern and elegant, somewhat ahead of ...
"Lux Aurumque" by Virtual Choir
We performed and recording this piece with my university band. Gave me the chills every time we nailed it! Thanks for posting the link.
Apogee Diva's or Infinity IRS Beta's?
I know of a friend of a friend that picked up a pair of Divas while owning the Betas, and the Betas went up for sale afterward. As I understand, it wasn't a completely obvious decision, but unfortunately I don't know the particulars that swayed hi...
Have you heard Crystal Bowersox?
she's easily the most talented contestant, IMO.
logical steps up from DacMagic?
the chips are the same, but i'm not sure they're used in the same configuration, and i know that the supporting electronics are not all identical (i.e. the upsampling chip at least). the 840C presumably has a slightly better PS, since it does have...
logical steps up from DacMagic?
Interesting, Face, I hadn't heard about that before. Did you compare them just as standalones?
logical steps up from DacMagic?
if you don't need the USB input, you might consider going with an 840C CD player. it has coax and fiber digital inputs so can be used as a standalone DAC. though by not a large margin, it seems roundly preferred over the DACMAGIC - it has double t...
Ohm speakers
The Model H was their TOTL bookshelf and sounded very nice, especially with the upgraded drivers and XO. In a perfect world, I'd have kept my pair, but I try to limit myself to just two systems and tough choices must be made!
Adcom GFA-565 Slight Thump
Yep, a normal thump at turn-on (not anywhere near dangerous levels), and also usually a little pop at shutdown. Mine have had the common capacitor repair done, so it's nothing that I worry about. If I remember, I might check the DC offset later ju...
Mapleshade Silclear
Apologies if I didn't make myself clear enough. Let's try again. Cables and tubes and sources have been swapped every which way to ensure that it is the right channel of the preamp itself that is the issue. After reading most of this thread, I als...
Mapleshade Silclear
Reviving an old thread here, but I need some advice that I think someone here can provide. I recently bought a preamp which had its tubes (just 2 12AU7s) treated at least once with Silclear. I was advised that if one of the channels got hissy, I s...
The 1970's Infinity QLS 1...How would it compare?
I realize I'm digging up an old thread here, but I just wanted to state for the record that after a few days of work and a few hundred dollars worth of crossover rebuilding and new internal wiring, AND with these speakers being properly driven (wh...
