Tube Pre-amp with SS AMP or stay all SS?
Thanks for all the feedback. I would assume that if I bought the corresponding McIntosh tube pre-amp (C500) for my McIntosh MC501 SS amps, that impedance would not be an issue? (i.e., would McIntosh match their own components?)Bob
Cary SLP-98 preamp with Mcintosh Amp
I used an SLP98P with my MC501's (driving a pair of Apogee Duetta II's) - loved it!

Tube Preamp for Mcintosh MC501 Monoblock
BTW, I A-B tested the MC2200 vs. the Cary and liked the Cary much better. Listen to a good recording of a horn section or viola and hopefully you'll know what I mean...
Tube Preamp for Mcintosh MC501 Monoblock
I use a Cary tube SL98P with my Mac 501s (driving an old pair of Apogee Duetta II's) and I am extremely satisfied. Very smooth, detailed; much better than the Audio Research LS2B I was using previously.

Could it be all the digital processing circuitry which degrades multi-channel sound? I recently bought a "top of the line" Bryston SP1.7 multi-channel (pre-amp/processor with analog bypass) to use with my Mcintosh MC501 monos and driving Apogee Du...
Maggies and McIntosh 501's?
I just sold a pair of Maggie 3.3Rs (bought Apogees), but ran them briefly with my new Mcintosh 501's - wonderful sound! Very smooth, removed the shrill high-end, reinforced bass response, and the noise floor disappeared...loved it!!!
Aesthetic and technological alternatives to IPOD
The issues regarding the battery were not reliability but the duration of lifetime and the high cost of replacement. Now there are cheaper battery replacements (thanks to many people threatening to sue Apple); of which you can easily install yours...
Pass X600 or VTL 450 Mono's for Magnepan
I just bought a pir of Mcintosh 501 monos for my Maggie 3.3Rs. Bi-amped (via the autoformers), they sounded quite excellent. You should give them a listen
Magnepan 3.6r or Apogee Divas?
Thanks to all for the responses. There is a pair of Diva's up on Ebay right now from a guy who lives near me (he's a really decent guy - hope he does well with the auction). The Diva's had very good bass response and could put out more volume than...
