Warning: Linn tonearm anti-skate not accurate
Extremephono,You should read the thread "Anti-skating question" again, because you seem to have missed the point. The point was (and is) that setting antiskating using blank bands often leads to too much compensation. The fact that Rega arms overcom...
how long interconnect for MM cart?
You also have to think about the capacitance of the cable.Typical ballpark figure is 100pF/metre, so 2.5 metres will give you 250pF in addition to that of the Phono stage and the tonearm leads. The ideal loading capacitance for an MM cartridge is 2...
Ohm Loads for cartridges
Hi Gerard,Which Benz do you have? I have never used one so I hesitate to comment. All of the Benz cartridges are MC, and generally speaking, MC cartridges are not as sensitive to the load as MM cartridges (due to the low coil inductance). However c...
Ohm Loads for cartridges
You are right. The terminology is confusing. Also frequently people get it backwards. The term load, when used relating to resistance, comes from a mechanical analogy: a SMALLER resistance generally means more current and hence a LARGER load. Conv...
Ohm Loads for cartridges
You got that backwards Carl. In the RIAA system, records are cut with a constant amplitude up to 500Hz, a constant velocity between 500Hz and 2120 Hz, and a constant amplitude again above 2120Hz. A phono cartridge is a velocity transducer, not an ...
Anti-skating question
You are right to set anti-skating by using modulated groves rather than blank bands on a record. The inwards force arises because a tangent to the record grooves, at the point of contact of the stylus, makes an angle of about 20 degrees to the lin...
Extreme low volume.
It is difficult to troubleshoot by posting articles, but it sounds like you tried replacing the key components:- source; amp; speakers. Since this didn't change anything, try the cables. It is possible that either the RCA connector from source to ...
How can I measure power draw?
Sorry, I checked my meter this morning, and I have to make a correction to the formula above. One full revolution is 1/300 kWHr, so the correct value is three times smaller, ie: P = 200 X (#Revolutions/Time in Minutes). Brian Kearns.
CD Copies...why do they sound worse?
"How can this possibly confuse you. The sound of the recorded CDR played back on the same CD player sounds better than the sound of the original CD that the CDR was recorded on played on the same CD player". I'm confused! Sounds like gobbledygook ...
How can I measure power draw?
As a more simple method to the above suggestions, you can measure the power consumption by watching the meter at the power distribution box for your house. I'm currently in Japan, and I'm from Ireland, but both countries use the same type of meter...
