Reasonably sensitive speakers for tube amps, max $2k/pair, new or used
They might not be easy to find but a pair of Spatial Audio speakers would fit the bill nicely.  I recently upgraded my very inefficient magnepan MMGs to a pair of Spatial Audio M3 sapphires and am absolutely blown away at them.  I’ve read nothing ...
Speaker cable recommendations in my budget
As someone who has been in a similar market (around $100-200 for cables), I've done hours of research and a few auditions.  I wound up being extremely happy with SignalCable (I bought their intermediate level, called the Ultra).  The owner, Frank,...
Unexpectedly low volume with Schiit Saga + Vidar
The tube gain on the Freya does get pretty stellar reviews.  Sigh -- this project is costing a lot more than initially intended.  May as well buy a true streamer while I'm at it....
Unexpectedly low volume with Schiit Saga + Vidar
I think I'm going to get a Freya.  Then maybe get another vidar and run monoblocks down the road.
Unexpectedly low volume with Schiit Saga + Vidar

Unexpectedly low volume with Schiit Saga + Vidar
That's fair.  I love the Magnepans.  I think I need to get the Freya rather than the Saga.
Unexpectedly low volume with Schiit Saga + Vidar
I get what you're saying.  I'm sure if I had a different set of speakers this would be very loud.
Unexpectedly low volume with Schiit Saga + Vidar
It seems like that's what I'm going to be needing.  I assume my sources that I'm putting into the preamp right now don't have much power behind them and that's why the volume is so low. Would something like a streaming DAC (I have my eye on the Ca...
Unexpectedly low volume with Schiit Saga + Vidar
That seems to make sense, as I get about the same total volume from taking an 1/8th > RCA stereo cable and plugging directly into the vidar.  Seems I may need to get a preamp with some gain....Any thoughts?
