Why the warm up?

I have a Nuprime CDT8 transport that is used about once a week. After powering on, the only function that works immediately is the tray open/close. I have to wait about 5 minutes for all other functions to operate (either by remote or on the transport itself). From that point, all work flawlessly. What causes this? Is the unit just faulty?
