Tune of the Day

"Blue Rondo a la Turk"  on the Two Generations of Brubeck album.  Wow.

There are many fine versions of this tune, but this one gets me dancing, clapping, fist-pounding, whatever, every time....and it's not easy to dance in, what, 9/8?  I love tunes that grow, build, develop, and move through changes.  This one just picks me up and takes me right along with it.  Great melding of jazz and rock idioms, too.  It's fun to imagine Dave Brubeck setting the groove and then sitting back to hear where his kids and their friends take it.

You can continue exploring Dave and the kids on Two Generations of Brubeck, "The Great Spirit Made Us All".  And Chris Brubeck's rock/jazz band Sky King on "Secret Sauce".

For extra credit, give a "spin" to Chase, "Bochawa" from their last album, Pure Music.

Anyway, that's my two cents today.

I remember listening to that song after one of my personal auto system installations. The bass is remarkable if done correctly.

Angus & Julia Stone "Yellow Brick Road"

Interestingly, I just got in Bruce Springsteen "High Hopes" this week.
"It Ain’t Easy" David Bowie

Frank Black & the Catholics "Everything is New"
Beck "No Distraction"

Beck is somewhat a musical chameleon in that he's willing to explore. Listening to "No Distraction", I think he's let Bruno Mars influence him somewhat?
..couple more thoughts on "Colors"...………..

When it was first released, I had my doubts about it. I then thought that if I were to own it, I'd prefer the 45rpm version. At the high cost, I put it on hold. I recently got a deal I could not pass up.

Will it be my go-to Beck lp? No. I did enjoy it however and feel good about the 45rpm pressing being the better sounding version. Fortunately, my copy came in, in perfect condition, beautiful packaging, no creases in the jacket, vinyl very flat and pretty noise-free. This all adds up to ultimate end-user satisfaction.
I'm a rule breaker...

"Road Angel"  The Doobie Brothers. Wow! what a great song, what a great lp, what a great band!
