Thiel Owners

Guys-

I just scored a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers. Anyone else currently or previously owned this model?
Owners of the CS 2.4 or CS 2.7 are free to chime in as well. Thiel are excellent w/ both tubed or solid-state gear!

Keep me posted & Happy Listening!

Thank You for endorsing Straight Wire as well. How far back does Maestro II go?

Are you enjoying a Full loom of Maestro II ?

Impressive that this brand bested M.I.T., Kimber, P.A.D. and Tara Labs, in your system.

Very interesting combination of P.A.D. Venustas and SW Maestro II.

I wish that I could remember the SW cables I heard in 2 different systems circa 2012-2013. I know that each was entry level to mid tier and covered in Red Jackets.  The presentation and sound were very fine.  Agreed, if One carefully matches Cables and Gear, no need to spend large sums of money. Thiel speakers are so revealing and transparent, overkill is easily achieved.

My pleasure to offer an opinion on Digital players. The CD and SACD are not going away anytime soon.

Thank You for another Thiel Audio history lesson. Very cool to have started in a Farmhouse. Then, moving to a Factory setting. I venture to say that the Investment paid off. Big Time.

Thank You for the Wire update. Looking forward to the next announcement here.

Be well and stay warm.

2nd Note:

It is going to be interesting to see(hear)  if other "footers" best Thiel's Outriggers.

Agreed. $8900- is pretty close to the Canada price. I hope that you are well this day.

Did you find a new Space for Hot Rod Garage ?

Adcom has changed hands several times since the 1980's.  Indeed, there were good ones and bad ones.

Good to see you today. Nice updates all around. Keep me posted on Audience v. WyWires comparison.

Thank You for the Power Amp(s) update. Good to read that you are making the most R&D via Adcom, Benchmark and Classe'. Believe me, there is plenty of room, in the room, for Power Amps. We all have our likes and hear differently.

Specifications are start but the Ear/Brain give a better clinical picture. I will keep saying that we (Audiophiles) need more "modders" in Our hobby, continuing to push for The Absolute Sound.

Season's Greetings and Happy Listening!

Welcome! Good to see you here today. Thank You for citing your Amp and Speakers. What other gear is in your System? I look forward in reading more about musical tastes as well.

Awesome! Update.  I know that you are quite happy to own an original 01 and 02 speakers. I have my sources on the lookout for more 01 and 02 Models for your discretion.  Must be a wonderful feeling, revisiting, the very Models that launched

Thiel Audio. I knew that you would connect with the Past. Again, very cool discovery.  Thank you for the Hot Rod Garage findings as well.  Keep up the excellent work.

My pleasure. I am glad that you are enjoying the CS 2.4 loudspeaker.

It is a very fine Model.

Excellent advice, as always, as above. I agree about loose Coils robbing transients. I also support the idea of using Bamboo for internal bracing.

Thinking outside of the box always Wins.

Good to see you here again. Thank You for the System update. Beautiful pics!

Always good to see Audia Flight gear with Thiel speakers. I know that the Panel will be pleased to learn IsoAcoustics  GAIA I is a sonic match for loudspeakers.

How did you like the Cary DMS 700 Streamer system? I would not mind adding the DMS model that had the CD playback capability.

Good to see you this day. I enjoy Peter Moncrieff's writings as well. Last Fall, I had an opportunity to audition my 1st Luxman CD player (D-03x) and MQA CD from Patricia Barber. I was able to switch out several CDs including my own Reference disc. The Luxman proved to articulate that classic Japan goodness ( Accuphase, Pioneer Elite, Sony ES and Yamaha). I must say that I did not hear anything special on the MQA coded CD. Perhaps MQA is better demonstrated via Server/Streaming services?

2nd Note;

tomthiel - Can you talk about the Gear in John's system?

Good to see you- as always.  Over the years, I have advised that if One wants to better a Thiel loudspeaker, a significant amount of money will be spent. Not only monies for the Loudspeaker, include monies for upgraded Gear as well.

Thank You for being a Panel member and Thiel expert.

RE: Grilles, my ears could not detect any advantage/disadvantage. I think the Metallic grill is quite attractive and compliments Models CS 2.4 to CS 3.7 speakers.  Jim must have had his reasons for this design.

My question;

How far back does the Metallic Grill go in the Thiel Audio catalog?

Happy Listening!

vair68robert

Thank You for sharing your Grill experience. My ear/brain could not detect any Sound quality decreasing off/on.

Thank You for another Thiel Audio history lesson. Such wonderful information on Jim's design and thoughts for Grill implementation.

The CS 2.4 / 2.4SE has a recess section built into the baffle for Grill to fit flush.

Magnets hold the Grill in place perfectly. Your aural descriptors are fine. I will add that One does not have to work to enjoy presentation and sound from Speakers.

Nice catch! I have never seen that "unique" Woofer image. I enjoyed the article via smileypete.com

Thank You for the detective work in reference to the "Teardrop Cone" design. Could the image/speaker in question have indeed been a Prototype for CES press conference?

Then the Star-Plane (wavy) cone design rolled out at a later date?

Welcome! Good to see you here. Nice selection on the CS 1.6 speakers. If you enjoy the NAD house-sound, there is room to move up the amp line. What other gear is in your System?

2nd Note;

Which CD/SACD player will replace your SCD-1 ?  My Sony ES lasted 25 years.

You are 1 of the early adopters of the SCD-1. Is the buyer planning to repair this Player? Or, use it for donor parts?

2nd Note;

there is a dedicated BDA-3 thread over on Audio Circle. Click Circles, then Bryston Limited thread, search for BDA-3 heading. Moderated by James Tanner of Bryston fame and very informative. This DAC won DAC-of-the-Year 2022.

Good to see you today. Until Tom addresses your query, the Oppo/Bryston DAC (BDA3) is the most popular combination that I see across other Audio forums.

Audiophiles really like this pairing of excellent brands. SACD, is great for multi-channel as well as 2-Channel musical enjoyment.

Thank You for sharing Bill's impressions and thoughts on the Oppo 105 Player.

A very interesting build and upgrade over stock. There is something to be said for "modding" a CD/SACD player even in 2023.

Upon release, the Sony S9000ES player was Reference quality in a $1500 package. I remember hearing this player in the late 1990's just prior to the

State of the Art SCD-1. Back then Sony / Sony ES over-built their gear with great Pride. You are fortunate to have owned both machines.
