Thiel Owners

Guys-

I just scored a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers. Anyone else currently or previously owned this model?
Owners of the CS 2.4 or CS 2.7 are free to chime in as well. Thiel are excellent w/ both tubed or solid-state gear!

Keep me posted & Happy Listening!

Thank you for the cabling/ XO update. Very cool to have consultation with Mr. Ray Kimber.  His cables are a Sonic match for Thiel Audio speakers. If you need a second opinion, reach out to Taylor at Gold Print Audio. He used to represent Thiel Audio. Currently represents Kimber Kable for a long time.

Nice catch ! On the Sony S9000Es player. Those remotes are plentiful on eBay.

Now, to address your query. All of my spinners, minus the AYRE, have those Digital “filters”. While it is a marketing ploy, to a degree, these are fine-tuning tone controls for CD or SACD playback.  Test drive each filter or setting to your ear brain. Purely customized to the user’s taste.  Both S9000es and SCD-1 are very well annotated and documented in Audio forums. You will have zero trouble finding out pertinent information on both machines.

Those filters are very subtle. You will find the one that best suits your personal Playback taste. Try to have a quiet environment for best outcome. Keep me posted as you finagle this fun process.  Let me know if you have any questions.

There is not much difference between the 3b and 4b-st other than power ratings. Both amps have the Bryston house sound. Both amps can be matched nicely with Tube or SS pre-amps.

Which hybrid design amp are you considering? What other Gear is in your System?

Outstanding! A White Paper will certainly provide much insight for your discretion.

Sony is/was big on “Bass Management “ those 5 selectable Filters will tie into their philosophy.  To start, Google Sony SCD-1 forums and reviews. This player is 20 years old, so, have your readers on.  I will do some detective work on my end as well. Give me a few days.

Google : Sony SCD-1 player reviews. The first entry will be an outstanding Stereophile review by Jonathan Scull 1999.  I have this magazine in my collection and remember reading it circa 1999. Mr. Scull does an excellent job interpreting and reviewing this State Of The Art spinner. Specifically, those 5 filters are examined at length. This will be a starting point.

more to follow,

Excellent! Good to read that you have a contact at Sony. Perhaps your contact has a RM -  Remote Control for S9000es.

please ask about RM - Remote Control SX700.

This matches SCD 9000es Player.

Ultimately, you ears will find favor among those Filters. The Stereophile article even mentions 1 filter specifically for Classical Music. Very impressive.

Right On! I am not a fan of aftermarket Remote Control. Give me OEM.

Please ask Bill if he has an extra RM SX700 (remote control). I will be more than happy to pay for it.

Welcome! Good to see you here. Yes, a Pass Labs X250.8 will be enough current for a pair of CS 3.7 speakers. This particular model requires a large room to "bloom". Listening position is fine at 8.5 feet.

The Panel has several 3.6 fans/owners, stay tuned until those guys chime in to address your query. I look forward in reading more about Musical tastes and system.

Welcome! Good to see you today.  The original Outriggers are a Sonic match for the CS 3.7 speakers. If you feel the need to further isolate, use Outriggers.

I have spent much time with this Model and it sounds fine with/without coupling.

I look forward in reading more about your Musical taste and system.

Thank You for the Jadis vs. Vitus Audio comparison. Good to your experience.

The Gryphon is well-liked among The Panel as well.

Which Tubed cd player(s) did you own?  In reference to CS 3.7 and Outriggers, I found no substantial advantages/disadvantages while auditioning. The same ear-brain impressions for CS 2.4 and CS2.7 Models. It is still a very cool invention and worth keeping.

Only with the CS 2.4SE did I find the Outriggers to sound beneficial. The matter has been discussed here in the past about this Loudspeaker needing the Coupling effect. Only a subtle Aural experience was appreciated for the better.

All of my auditions were conducted in Rooms with carpet. Perhaps my impressions and thoughts would be different with Hard-wood surfaces?

I hope that this is helpful.

Sonic Frontiers,  is still highly regarded in our hobby. The brand has a strong fan-base. The Classics, never go out of vogue.

Thank you for offering your impressions and thoughts on Gryphon. We have a few fans and owners on the Panel. I will second , Vitus Audio. I would like to hear their Integrated and matching CD/SACD player. This is a premier Audio product.

Welcome! Good to see you here today. Nice score on CS 1.5 speakers. Equally nice to read that Velodyne is a sonic match. I have heard their "DD" series suwoofer(s) in other systems that did not feature Thiel loudspeakers. I look forward in reading more about your Musical tastes and system(s).

I see that you own a sweet pair of CS 2.4 plus Outriggers Speakers!

Best practice, stick with a Copper cable. No Silver. Audioquest (AQ), Cardas, Kimber Kable, Purist Audio Designs, Transparent and Wireworld, are all sonic matches. The key is to dial-in said Cables to your Power Amp.

Which brand are you enjoying?

I have spent time with the Focal Sopra 2. It does compete (not better than) Thiel Audio CS 2.4, CS 2.4 SE,  CS2.7, CS 3.7 and Wilson Audio Sabrina/Sabrina X.

Perhaps the Sopra 3 takes on CS 3.7 and Wilson Audio models above the Sabrina/SabrinaX up to DAW?

Very similar to a Thiel Audio loudspeaker, in that, careful Gear matching is key to avoid excessive brightness from the Tweeter.

Good to see you here today. Greetings. Now, to address your query. There is the original Thiel Audio Outriggers (spiked base) to consider. Sound Anchor might be an option? Stay tuned until a member of  the Panel's CS 2.7 owners chimes in as well.

Good to see you as always. Thank You for the PS Audio DSD DAC II. update.

There are several PS Audio threads here on the 'Gon that could benefit from your expertise.

Season's Greetings! Thank You for a brief update. Cabling (wire) is the forgotten component. I have been saying this for years with great Passion. I am looking forward in reading more about your findings via experimentation.

No- Only the Outriggers. My pair has Spikes that can be affixed to the metal base.

I have seen Sound Anchors with spikes as well. Not sure about Herbie's Audio Lab?

Nice catch! I hope those CS 2.7 speakers find the next good home.

Thank You for the CS2.7 and Outriggers confirmation. During my auditions, my ears could not discern a difference with/without Outriggers on the CS 2.7 and CS 3.7 Models.  Still, it is pretty cool to own.

Right On! both accounts. Enjoy the Holiday season.
