there is a pair of 03A over on U.S. Audiomart. When are you making the trek to Virginia ?

Thank You for a little parts cost comparison and its relationship with Retail pricing.
We all can hardly await for the 1st speaker to roll off your assembly line. I am a later bloomer having learned about Thiel Audio in 2012. I am a quick study. Most of the Panel members are grateful for Jim not following the H/T trend of the 1990's.
There is something to be said about staying focused on One's strong suit in Audio.

Right On! There is something to be said for doing your own Home repairs. Good to see you here again. I never would have guessed that hardwood floors would accent Thiel loudspeakers.

Thank You for the offer. Rob Gillium at CSS could possibly use assistance with upgraded Out-Riggers as well.

Nice catch for the "Selling it All" thread. East Texas is a nice place, not far from Dallas either. It would be of interest to see a listing of all of that gear.

Right On! Thank you for such a generous offer to our members of the Panel. I most certainly do not object having a Manufacturer here. PLease feel free to carry on offering upgrades to our beloved Thiel loudspeakers.
I will 2nd your thoughts on Walmart and any other American business cutting corners and junk-sourcing goods/wares to china. Our hobby, Audio, is not immune to such practices.

Good to see you here again. Nice addition with the Denali V2. I have not heard this particular model, only, the V-Ray. The Denali is reportedly better technology.

Nice addition! The Niagara is a very fine conditioner. Keep me posted as the conditioner settles into your room/system.

Thank You for the Vovox review. Cables/cords can absolutely sound veiled. Some Audiophiles prefer this house-sound. I do not. I want all of those sweet micro/macro details embedded in my CD/SACD collection !!!

Right On! I cannot think of an instance where the CS 2.7 or CS 3.7 requires a Subwoofer. Utilizing a proper Power amp will yield the aural results across the frequency spectrum. I spent much time with both models extensively.

Thank You for the additional information. Will you replace current Cables/cords with the Vovox brand (full loom) ?

Thank You for the informative follow up. I will make an effort to contact the operation in California for additional intel. Keep me posted as you massage Vovox XLR into your room/system.

Thank You for the SCD-1 update. What a shame? Did Bill expound upon the aspect(s) that are non(un)- repairable?
On the other hand (OTOH), there has never been a better time to purchase a CD/SACD spinner. Of course, I will suggest Accuphase, Ayre or Marantz, for openers.
Regarding OPPO, I found the 105 too smooth for my taste. Most of these players will playback discs and files. Something for all Audiophiles. I have not heard a PS Audio disc spinner to date. The newest one is advertised as their best technology to date. Paul offers beta-testing, this could make for a gateway to ownership.
Keep me posted as this talk is right up my alley.

2nd Note: most OPPO players will act as a Transport as well. Check out AVS Forum where there are many, many, happy OPPO owners representing this brand.

Thank You for the follow up. Bill certainly knows his business. Sad to hear the SCD-1 is on life-support.
Better news, there is a plethora of excellent spinners in the demo/used marketplace. Thanks to all who stream!

yyzsantabarbara
did you purchase your SCD-1 new? If used, how long ago did you buy? I would think that "modding" extends the spinners' life-span.

cascadesphil
which modded 83 do you own? I know that Oppo built a Special Edition 83.
Happy Listening! |
yyzsantabarbara
Nice! essentially, you purchased a new player back in 2002. Havingit modded certainly extended its life. Incredible that these players are still selling on the secondary marketplace. Sony really over-built this Reference spinner.

Very nice! ModWright are excellent products. Equally, the Bryston 1.7 is my fave pre/pro. I love its simple design and implementation.
You are fortunate to own an EMM Labs DAC as well.

Thank You for Bill's rationale. In my collection, Ayre and Marantz players have a stand-by mode when not at playback. The Accuphase does not.
All (3) are Reference players in their own right. I can hardly await to see which Player/Transport you add to Hot Rod Garage.

Welcome! Good to see yo here today. Thank You for sharing your Thiel 03s experience. After 34 years, you are certainly due for an upgrade. IMO, the sweet spot is a pair of CS 2.4 loudspeakers. These are easily found all over the internet.
Model CS 2.4 can be placed 8-10 feet apart. Then, 2-3 feet away from back walls/side walls. This particular speaker sounds great with as little as 75 watts up to 200 watts per channel (wpc). Again, easy to drive and easy to place without too much fuss. Most sellers are honest about the condition of a demo/used pair of Thiel Audio loudspeakers.
What other gear is in your system? I look forward in reading more about your Musical taste.

Good to read that you are well this Fall season. Like a CD/SACD spinner, there has never been a better time to purchase a DAC. Those are some stiff competition. Keep me posted as you weed out the stack.

prof circling back around to your query;Yes, I have been playing around with low-tier Cabling that I borrow from a friend. All gear and speakers are dialed-in, into my room, as such.In between time away from work, I am in the process of auditioning Reference level cables/cords. Still, have not settled on a definitive brand at this time. Too many Cables/cords, so little time. It feels good to have the gear portion completed. And yes, the presentation and sound are fully satisfying. Reference cabling will elevate to the next Aural level. I seek out every nuanced detail in the Music. A perfect balance of clinical and musical. It can become accomplished.
