michaeljbrown-
I have not ruled out Krell, either. Keep me posted on your buying decision!

No worries robin-
all Thiel talk is welcomed. What amp are you using? Happy Listening!
Big Conrad Johnson fan here- robin. Happy Listening!
Nice to see that you are close to me (Prattville AL.) -Jon.
I was not impressed w/ Revel nor Aerial speakers which receive many accolades in the Audio press?
Thank You- claero
tell me, which model is the 2.3i ? What other gear, including cabling, are you using in your system?
Thanks! for sharing your impressions and experiences- catalysis
what gear, including cabling, are your using in your system?
Thank You -guys for the excellent discussions in this thread. Happy Labor Day!
Excellent! catalysis
yes, very minimal (read none) toe in, on these speakers.
Thanks! again- catalysis
upon my 1st demo session w/ the CS 2.4, I was instantly struck by its very rich sound (timbre) and presentation. I was fortunate enough to listen to those speakers on a 3-month work assignment. I am became a believer and awaited until a pair of CS 2.4SE came along for purchase.
Happy Listening!

Hello Jeff
good to see you again. Believe me, I am chomping at the bit trying to put it all together. I really want to audition a few more pieces prior to any purchasing. These integrated amps are on my short-list;
B.A.T. Bryston B-135 (squared or cubed) Conrad Johnson CA 150/150 SE Pass Labs INT models
I want a frame of reference, as in the past, I have heard these companies separates. You guys will get it here in this thread, first.
Happy Listening!
2nd Note;
guys -upon completion, my system, will be reference level. Considering the dollar amounts involved, I do not want to make a mistake. Synergy and careful gear selection is paramount. I have never had any interest in a revolving-door system. Once in place it will be around for many, many years.
unsound-
simply kicking the idea around...
robinbarbour-
I have had an opportunity to demo the CJ Act2 pre-amp and it is excellent. After audition, I had to wonder about the sound/presentation of the ART2/3 ?
Right On! oblgny
I rather enjoy both CJ and PL as separates. I want to demo their integrated amps for a comparison. I do get confused w/ the PL and First Watt models, as to, which ones have the most or highest current?
$300 is nothing, if it means extending the life of your speakers.
This is the most important aspect of owning Thiel speakers. As we see so many companies dumping customer service, it is good to read and know, that Thiel has our best interest at heart.
Welcome! nkonor-
what power amps were you using to blow so many drivers?
And ears! Happy Listening!
Agreed unsound,
Thiel offers a 10-yr warranty and frequently honors another or 2 nd owner on its loudspeakers. This type of commitment really "seals" any deal for me.
Happy Listening!
Many Thanks! nkonor-
you raise an excellent point of view, in that, older power amps are still very much relevant. So long as some tech can replace caps and other critical parts as they die off, very relevant. Happy Listening!
Much Thanks! Jeff
the PL and Rogue Audio products are real "sleepers" and can compete w/ the big guys like ARC, CJ...etc.
IMO, Pass Labs is the best solid-state at the present.
Thanks! for sharing- spenrock
can you tell me and the guys here about the Krell and Classe' amps used by you guys? Cabling is the most important factor as well. Happy Listening! |
Until i got my 1st taste of the CS 2.4, later on the CS 2.4SE (my reference) I did not think much of a passive Bass radiator? After hearing these outstanding speakers, I was "hooked" and a believer!
TY- spenrock
I have spent some times w/ Classe' separates, but never their integrated amps. Same w/ Krell. There are so many good choices.
Most like the newer Krell Vanguard. I do not know if Classe' still builds an integrated or not? Cabling is the most important and often forgotten facet, as it ties an excellent system, together. |
Cool project- saffron!
if you decide to do it, keep me posted. Happy Listening!
Hope you guys are having a fun and music filled Thiel week!
Laughing... As we enter the Fall season I know that some of you will break out the tubed gear to accompany your Thiel speakers. Happy Listening!
It is re-assuring to learn that our speakers are still supported and can be serviced as needed per Thiel. In my case, I am happy that if my cross-over(s) fail or fizzle, there are better replacements or OEM options to consider. Future proof is in effect! I like it.
As we gear up for another work week, hope you guys are enjoying the Music!
Excellent! oblgny
please, keep me posted as you massage the new SOA into your system. I am very curious to learn how it affects your sound. Additionally, it is good to compare amps- Primare vs SOA.
1st weekend in October!
Happy Listening!
How ya doing out there- oblgny?
Regarding Houston or Katy, whomever comes across w/ an excellent Audio shop will be greatly rewarded. Your area is in need for certain. Even if it was located in north Houston or the Woodlands, would be helpful.
Good Day Dave,
nice to have you here. YES! any Thiel model can be discussed from the past, present or future. We all have a likeable vintage as can be read in this forum.
Several gentlemen here enjoy the late 80's to early 90's designs. Happy Listening!
Again, Welcome! aboard- Dave. I am impressed w/ your contribution, especially, the cabling selection. I am a "cable guy" first and foremost.
Keep us posted- robinbarbour
Guys-
as we get ready for the Holiday season, have any of you been to your local dealer/retailer in search of something new for Christmas?
Dave,
it is good to read and learn that SR cabling is a sonic match for Thiel. These cables/cords are on my must-demo list!
Give a shout-out to the various dealers/retailers that you have worked w/ system building over the years. |
Agreed All-
keep all discussions here as the intel will benefit the other readers. Chances are, they may want to change out cabling as well. We have an investment going on and wish to extract all of the 1 & 0's out of our music.
Do not forget the dealers/retailers shout-out, especially, the ones w/ plush showrooms/listening spaces to audition gear and cabling!
Thank You- Jon and oblgny for your steadfast contributions. Happy Listening!
Can hardly await your impressions/thoughts on your new SOA amp. oblgny- Happy Listening!
Thank You- Dave. where do you purchase your SR cabling? Which shop has the best selection for demo? Happy Listening!
Very helpful- Dave.
perusing this thread you will have learned that I am in the process of building my reference system :)
Over the past 4 years, I have been fortunate to demo and audition much gear, especially, cabling. There are still a few brands of gear on my short-list to demo. Cabling as well. So it is particularly helpful to me, from you guys that actually have a local dealer/retailer (like oblgny: example), to report the things -good, bad, indifferent- you all are hearing in the show rooms.
I am not one to rotate gear like most audiophiles. Considering the monies involved, I will keep my reference system for many, many years. I do not play on that merry-go-round. SR has been on my radar for some time now. My closest Audio market would be Atlanta, Nashville, New Orleans or northern Florida. My travels and expert demo time has been in Texas, North Carolina, and Maryland.
We all have different locales across our wonderful nation. This is so helpful in deducing which brands to audition and those that can be avoided. Saves money, time as well. I enjoy all dealers/retailers small, medium and large. On hand and avail for demo really peaks my interest.
Keep posting!
Thank You- Dave.
it is a shame about Houston, it is our 4th largest U.S. city and it does not have an Audio operation? What was the Audio shop that used to be located downtown- going I-10 west almost to the Katy city limit?
I can remember viewing it while traveling along the interstate? It started w/ Sound...Concepts? World? I know it was a staple for a long time.
The same can be said for Atlanta- our 6th largest U.S. city. Only a few years ago there were many Audio operations, now, sadly, only 2/3 ?
B&M shops are becoming scarce for certain. Lucky for you, there are a few sweet operations in Dallas. Galen Carol is in San Antonio. There is another shop south of Tyler. Just to mention a few of the ones that I have visited over the years.
Mine will be a simple, yet elegant, 2-channel rig. Happy Listening! |
Dave-
tell me about other cabling that you have used prior to SR? If none, then tell us about your SR journey. Happy Listening!
