Thiel Owners

Guys-

I just scored a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers. Anyone else currently or previously owned this model?
Owners of the CS 2.4 or CS 2.7 are free to chime in as well. Thiel are excellent w/ both tubed or solid-state gear!

Keep me posted & Happy Listening!

Excellent points all around. I concur with prof. My ears agree with yours.

Good to read that you are having fun building speakers and fine-tuning with Conrad Johnson / Pass Labs. Both of those pre-amps are excellent in their own designs.

Good to see you again. You will have to look high and low to better a Thiel loudspeaker.  It never hurts to demo other brands on the flip-side.

Your ears did not deceive - it is very close comparing the CS 2.7 to CS 3.7 models.  Room size is the contributing factor I found.

Thank You for the kind words. I enjoy reading about your Audio journey from past to present date.  Hope you are well and gearing up for the Fall season there in NY.

Not a chance prof would confabulate his own thread. Second, visit the Grand Canyon... (all of it).

prof 's loudspeaker audition thread is an excellent read. He covered many popular brands in detail. This information is especially helpful for those who do not have local Audio representation.

Good to see you again.  I usually advise the CS 2.7 model for an office / small room application. OTOH, I can see your wanting to procure a sweet pair of CS 3.7 loudspeakers.  Continue to watch the demo/used market as well as internet sites. California is a Hot market for this kind of activity.

A unique opportunity to own both CS 2.7 (office) and CS 3.7 (downstairs room). I am excited for your future Audio journey.

Welcome! Good to see you here. Very informative post and system.
The HCA-3500  is still a relevant amp, IMO.  I look forward in reading more about your musical tastes. Excellent shout out for Rob Gillum.

Welcome!  Mr. Rob Gillum is your guy at Coherent Source Service.
He is a one-man operation and will reply to email or phone call as soon as possible.  Keep me posted after your consultation on replacement parts / tweaking the cross-over (XO). I look forward in reading more about your musical tastes and system.

Good to see you again here.  At your leisure, take time to read this thread from the beginning. I believe that you will find a plethora of information.
There are a few international members of the Panel here. To my knowledge, you are the first from Paris. Thiel Audio is truly represented around the world. I hope Rob is able to assist your initial query. I like your musical tastes.

I was hoping your eyes would catch this post by our newest contributor from France.  That would be very cool as there are many pairs of CS 2.3 on the secondary internet marketplace.  Hope you are well this Fall day and having fun in your Hot Rod garage.

Welcome! Good to see you here. What other gear and cabling is in your system? I look forward in reading about your musical tastes.

I will second playing those test disc(s) no louder than a moderate level.
In fact, low level playback is preferred for system protection at all times.
Utilizing the frequency sweeps and tones are an excellent evaluation tool.

how are you enjoying the Sony SCD-1 player in your hot rod garage or studio?  Do you utilize this player for CD, SACD or both on playback?

Any other spinners in your current possession? Excellent discussion on the whole time/phase front.

Thank You for the SCD-1 update. Watch eBay weekly for Sony ES parts, especially, the SCD-1 player. Hope you can return health to your spinner.

I have spent time with Audioquest Mont Blanc and Volcano speaker cables. Both were excellent w/ the CS 2.4SE, CS 2.7 and CS 3.7 models.

Honorable mention goes to Audience AU24 series and Transparent Audio MM2 series all of the way up the mighty OPUS, in other non-Thiel systems,  over the years.  I have read about Acoustic Zen being a sonic match on Thiel Audio loudspeakers. Duelund is a modern favorite with the D.I.Y. crowd (I have not spent any time w/ AZ nor Duelund).

Check in over on Audio Asylum for more interpretations of Acoustic Zen and Duelund cable discussions. I can report that Copper matches the best and is worry free. Silver,  is a little more dicey on models CS 2.4 through CS 3.7 and requires careful gear consideration.

I wonder if silver is less dicey on CS 2.3, 2.2 or other vintage loudspeakers?

Good to read that you own a CS 1.6 loudspeaker. I would like to see the numbers of owners for models 1.6 and 1.7.

Looking forward to your impressions and measurements as always.

Agreed, I do not believe the CS 1.6 nor CS 1.7 were sold to large numbers. Mr. Rob Gillum may have the number of pairs sold over the years of production?

Thank You for continuing to inform us on Thiel Audio history.

3000 pair for the CS 1.5 and CS 1.6 is impressive indeed. Hope you are well this Fall day.

Thank You for the sales figures. I know that you will succeed in your modifications. Looking forward to reading about the (4) pair outcomes.
Enjoy the Audio journey.

Glad I made you laugh. A tubed pre-amp is suggested in a separates set-up.  On several auditions I heard that combination (tubed pre + ss power) and it does not disappoint. The BHK pre-amp is very fine. You will not become disappointed. What other gear including cabling rounds out your system?Regarding AYRE, I dare report that this may be the only brand who's power amp does not require a tubed preamp (Twenty Series).  Unequivocally, this special series possess a tubed Soul.

Thank You for the link to your system. Beautiful photos of room and Thiel speakers.  How do you like the Kimber/Transparent cabling combination?

In a previous system I owned the Transparent Super MM2 series of cabling.  Very interested in auditioning the current GEN5 offerings.

Nice! The guys at Transparent are all awesome. I believe that your system would benefit by upgrading to the Super MM2 series.

I can attest to the sonic improvements climbing the Transparent cabling ladder. Small increments for the positive from Super to Reference.

A larger measure from Reference to OPUS (as it should per price index).

Looking forward in reading about your new room and system.

Thank You for the update on Audio Consultants. Anytime the Audiophile community loses a brick-and-mortar business, sad indeed.

I have been reading stories about the rent/tenant situation around the greater Chicago area lately. That city is following the trends found in California and NYC currently. It appears that small businesses simply cannot or will not pay those highly inflated prices. Sad for Consumers and Patrons within the (3) markets.
