Thiel Owners

Guys-

I just scored a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers. Anyone else currently or previously owned this model?
Owners of the CS 2.4 or CS 2.7 are free to chime in as well. Thiel are excellent w/ both tubed or solid-state gear!

Keep me posted & Happy Listening!

Nice score! I am looking forward to you getting back into a Thiel loudspeaker. I think that you will be pleasantly surprised with the CS 2.4 model. Do you own the MM2 or Gen5 Transparent cabling?

I have been itching to demo the Gen5 series.

You own a very nice system centered around a sweet Sony SCD-XA9000ES player.  I would stock up on critical parts for this model. Getting rarer to obtain.

Good to see you back in a pair of Thiel Audio loudspeakers, CS 2.4 model, no less. I hope to schedule a Transparent demo in the Fall. I really want to hear the Gen5 offerings. The MM and MM2 series are still very fine and viable.
Keep me posted as you massage the CS 2.4 into your room/system.

does CSS stock the raw drivers and XO parts for the 7.2 model?

Nice catch!  Hope those 7.2 loudspeakers find a good home.

I can only imagine the kind of power amp(s) required for the 7.2 loudspeaker?  Hope that you are well as we wind down Summer.

That's the spirit!  A server/streamer does not interest me as well. I never minded changing out CD/SACDs.

Very nice system you own. Many audiophiles enjoy the Sony ES HAP-Z1
for server/streamer activities.  It is a cool device that was ahead of its time upon release to consumers.

Welcome!  Good to see you here. There are a few fans and owners of the CS 2.3 on the Panel.  I concur about sitting 8-10' away from the 2.3/2.4 models.  Feel free to return if you do not like Tekton Moabs. An ARC Ref5SE is a sonic match with Bryston 4B-SST.

I enjoy a wide range of music - classical, jazz, pop, rock and soul.

Not into hip-hop nor rap.  At your leisure, read over this thread as there is a plethora of information on Thiel Audio.

Yes- over on the other Audio forums, there are a few Thiel owners who enjoy McCormack power amps. These two brands have a special synergy. Good to see you here as always.

Good to read that we have another CS 2.4 owner among the Panel.

Members of the Panel, like yourself, really makes this thread fire on all 8 cylinders. I value input from you guys who have owned several different pairs of Thiel Audio loudspeakers. Especially, those late 80's - late 90's designs. This ownership, provides guidance, for me. Hopefully, further guidance is provided for the rest of  our contributors, members and readers. Add further input from our DIY guys and Industry Professionals and we have all of the ingredients for Achievement. Literally, there is something here for everyone.

Good to read that you are enjoying the CS 2.4 model. It is indeed a special loudspeaker that should not be overlooked. It benefits from a small degree of toe-in, IMO. Enjoy the Music.

Again, Thank You,  for your assessment and evaluation of the CS 2.4 model. Your ears are on-point!  As time marches forward, I believe that you will find the CS 2.4, beautiful and refined in its presentation. Continue to enjoy the music my Audiophile friend.

I will second Eric Clapton Unplugged for referencing and testing any system. Add Nirvana and Rod Stewart Unplugged for good measure.
Now, if we could get Don Henley Unplugged? Remarkable show that deserves to be released!

Welcome! Good to read about another CS 2.4 owner. Take the time to read through this thread for pertinent information regarding electronics to make your loudspeakers sing.  Over the years, I have read about combining Arcam and Bryston gear.  Have fun!

Agreed- the CS 2.4SE does not benefit from toe-in. The upgraded cross-over (XO) and Outrigger decoupling makes a refined, sublime, difference.

Happy Listening!
Another +vote for the CS 2.7 loudspeaker being perfect without any further upgrade(s).

Thank You for sharing your Summer 3.5 project. Strong work- this model is beloved by many members of the Panel here. How we wish OEM drivers and parts were available for these Vintage loudspeakers?

Thank You for posting the article. Good to read that the MF-2550SE is a sonic match for CS 3.7 loudspeakers. The Premier 350SA is my long-standing reference Power amp.

Thank you for your experience and wisdom here. Good to read that Jim and Nelson traveled the same circle. Nelson’s gear is a Sonic match for our beloved loudspeakers.  Adcom, First Watt and Pass Labs offer goodness from yesterday and today.  I will keep a watch for an original Adcom

GFA 555 amp. I see one quite often around the net.

Thank You for the update. Good to read that your pair of DR-9s are back and ready for action!  I know you were doubting if they would return operational.  There are many fans of the Classe' brand here. Feel free to give a shout-out for the repair/service Expert.

Nice! system. Interesting combination of Cardas/PAD cabling. Agree with Tom's assessment and suggested testing polarity. Does the B.A.T. pre-amp reverse polarity? The CS 2.4 loudspeaker is balanced Bass to Treble, Treble to Bass without any mid-bass fall out.  Hope the culprit is diagnosed soon. Good to see you again.

It is imperative to post both negative and positive experiences when dealing with these repair operations/techs.  We would not want other Audiophiles to have the same misfortune(s).

I am looking forward in reading more about the Adcom/Benchmark/Classe'
shoot-outs.

Nice catch!  No doubt that the CJ MF-2550/2550SE will become a modern classic. This is probably the last solid-state power amp we will see from CJ as well. Thank You for posting impressions on this model plus McCormack DNA.
