Thiel Owners

Guys-

I just scored a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers. Anyone else currently or previously owned this model?
Owners of the CS 2.4 or CS 2.7 are free to chime in as well. Thiel are excellent w/ both tubed or solid-state gear!

Keep me posted & Happy Listening!

Thank You for the update. Good to read that about another PS Audio BHK amp owner. These products are really gaining traction in the customer base. It seems that both Mono and Stereo amps are favored compared to the competition. A few more PS Audio owners over on Audio Asylum.

Thank You for the CH (RIP) note. Ayre and Pass Labs integrated amps are well documented with the CS 2.4 loudspeaker. It is a simple matter of listening level(s) and brand taste(s).  Hope you are having fun on the XO project.

Welcome! good to see you here today. We do have a few CS6 fans and owners on the Panel. Stay tuned until one of those guys chimes in to address your query.

Mr. Rob Gillum at CSS will be a great resource and can provide additional guidance on your purchase decision. I look forward in reading more about your musical tastes and system plan.

The ML 23.5 is a stone classic power amp. At it age, it could probably benefit from a tune up. A great ML resource is  Pyramid Audio in Austin Tx.

If on the west coast, George Meyer AV in Los Angeles is another great Audio resource.

You are spot on! To my ears, I never found Thiel loudspeakers to sound bright, harsh nor thin. These speakers can absolutely tuned to one's musical liking via audio gear as well.  Happy Listening!

Agreed- they are fantastic all-around performers. Over the years I have come to learn that a great deal of audiophile do prefer a centered and large midrange presentation. I find this "sound" to roll off lows, highs or both to my ears.  Happy Listening!

Good to see you. I believe the whole density of sound to refer to the speaker voicing. Perhaps one of our order filter experts can chime in.
Hope you are well and enjoying your pair of CS 2.4 loudspeakers.

nice catch! Actually, that is not a bad price at all. Probably could get down to the $5000 range. Again, it would be good to learn the number of CS 2.7 pairs sold globally.

Nice score! Keep us posted as you massage these loudspeakers into your system/room.  Happy Listening!

Good to see you again. $800 would have been a fair offer. I usually see this Thiel model in the $1000-1500 neighborhood.  Were the Serial Numbers listed?

Thank You for citing your amp upgrade and matching Cardas power cord (PC). There is much information in these Audio forums on B.A.T. gear and tube rolling to achieve a personal "sound". I do know that Cardas Clear and Beyond PC mate well with tubed gear.  Keep me posted as you massage the VK-55 into your room, system.

Sad to read that you let your CS 3.7 speakers go. Agreed, the buyer is no doubt- loving his new acquisition.  Happy Listening!

During my hundreds of demo hours, I never felt the need to add a subwoofer to the CS 2.4 loudspeaker. To my ears it is perfectly balanced.

Nicely cited about the left most one or two keys on a Piano.

Agreed, zero desire to add a subwoofer.  Happy Listening!

Stereophile Test CDs are excellent and can be found on the cheap from eBay.  Keep me posted on which disc(s) purchased.

I enjoy JA's measurements, as well as, Paul Miller of HiFi News & Record Review. These gentlemen are class acts to the Audio press. Each leaves the reader with an impressive body of work.

Excellent discussion, as always, Guys. Tom- not vicious at all. Truthful.
Jim's attention to the finer details and search for accuracy has certainly paid off in any of his loudspeaker models, IMO.  I was fortunate in those early CS 2.4 auditioning days to have the Vandy 2Ce and 2Ci speakers plus a pair of Triangle Celius speakers to switch off from one another and shoot-out against the CS 2.4 same room.  Thiel came out as the winner to my ears for its rich sound and presentation.

Thank You for continuing to share Thiel's history with the panel.
Hope you are well and gearing up for Christmas.

you guys nailed it when Jim optimized for an 8' - 12' listening distance.
Agreed, the ear-brain does have much musical information to sort out under this type of testing condition(s).  It would appear that team Thiel really had fun in those early days of research and development (R&D).

Thank You for more Thiel Audio history. Another fascinating series of relevant posts.  Happy Listening!

I enjoy reading about your approach in building and testing loudspeakers as well. Keep researching and writing here.  Happy Listening!

Thank You for the amp comparison. Good to read that the 3B-ST and 7B-ST are still relevant in 2018.  Happy Listening!

Excellent points Andy and Tom.I can remember reading about the WANG600. Whatever happened to that computer maker?  IBM was quite a force until Apple and Microsoft came onto the scene.  What a time capsule...?

Thank You for chiming in. Agreed, trust your ears. As some of you guys are discovering, newer loudspeakers,  are not always better.

Excellent points on DSP and its complex architecture. I can remember the Meridian system being quite expensive, involved and several pieces of gear to perform dedicated functions.  Happy Listening!

Thank You for citing your speakers' Serial Numbers.  Happy Listening!
Thank You Andy and Tom for the follow -on comments regarding Active/DSP speakers.  Happy Listening!
last_lemmingGood to see you again. Thank You for the update. My understanding about owning B.A.T. gear is to obtain that Six-Pack Modification.  You own a very nice system. How do you like the Parasound/B.A.T. combo?
Happy Listening!
jon_5912
In all of my years in this hobby, I can only think of Meridian. At one time these guys were into Active, DSP, speakers. Not sure if their technology pushed time/phase coherence?   Happy Listening!
beetlemaniaI know that your XO project / rebuild is going to become quite successful.

last_lemming
There are a few Parasound/Thiel owners over on the other Audio forums. This combo has proven to become a sonic match. I must say that you one of the very few to incorporate B.A.T. into the mix. Very interesting combo indeed.
