Thiel Owners

Guys-

I just scored a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers. Anyone else currently or previously owned this model?
Owners of the CS 2.4 or CS 2.7 are free to chime in as well. Thiel are excellent w/ both tubed or solid-state gear!

Keep me posted & Happy Listening!

Thank You for the additional information on your unique CS 2.7 loudspeakers.  Being in Oregon, you are not too far from beetle as opposed to Tom in the northeast and me in the deep South.

Happy Listening!
tomthielThank You for the update on drivers and cross-over(s). Have fun and stay safe out there.Happy Listening!
My pleasure - fitter468
Bryston is an excellent sonic match for Thiel speakers. I want to demo the new "cubed" series of power amps for comparison to the older ST and SST models.  I have read about M.I.T. cabling acting as a sonic match as well.

Proceed and older Mark Levinson gear seems to be a fan favorite w/ Thiel speakers too. I do believe that repairs/service is still provided for these Vintage products.  Thanks! for sharing your Audio journey.Happy Listening!

Welcome! thielrulesThank You for the intro regarding your Audio journey. We all have a story to share. I think that you will find several owners of the 3.5 model here. This speaker still has quite a following. I am looking forward in reading more posts from you.Happy Listening!

Welcome! manutdsoc20

Thank You for the introduction. I look forward in reading more about your system and Audio journey. There is a plethora of information here. Quite a few owners of the CS 2.4 loudspeaker as well.

Good to see you - harrylavo

Count another fan of the 3.5 model loudspeaker. I must report that the majority of you guys currently own, previously owned this speaker.

Impressive that it goes all of the way back to 1979! There is an expressed interest in those equalizers as well. Thank You for sharing your story about meeting Jim Thiel.

Good to see you - arniespin

aside from the 3.5 model, I venture to say the many of you guys own and support the CS 3.7 loudspeaker as a runner-up. What other gear is in your system? I concur that any REL sub is very easy to integrate into one's system.

the Bryston 3B-ST is still a fine amp indeed. I have heard that model a few times w/ an ARC tubed pre-amp. Nice combination.

Happy Listening!

Welcome! batmanfan

I can attest that the Marado finish is special and beautiful indeed. Good to read that you found this thread- I trust that you will find it useful.

Yes, Bryston power amps are a sonic match for our beloved Thiel speakers. What other gear is in your system?

Good to see you again - dhoff01

the REL Stentor III is a very fine sub indeed. I can only imagine how well -balanced your system sounds.

Happy Listening!

As above, Martin Logan really hit it out the park w/ the Decent and Grotto subwoofers. IMO, very easy to integrate (like a REL) into any system. I have heard each model on several occasions- very accurate in sound and presentation. These do not appear often on the used/demo market, grab one.

Precisely! arniespin

proper break-in/burn-in is paramount w/ any stereo system. Take time, dial it in slowly and one will  be musically rewarded. Good to see so many fans of REL products.

Good to see you again. Stay tuned until one of the Panel DIY experts chimes in to address your query. 26 years is a nice run.

Nice! system  - batmanfanYes, I like Batman as well. The Sony SCD-XA9000ES is a special player indeed. I have always wanted one. Anthem makes a very fine processor, as does, Bryston SP 1.7, SP2 and SP3.  Looking forward in reading more contributions to this thread from you.

prof-I enjoyed read your Devore speaker audition -list thread. You certainly covered some very sweet loudspeakers. Well done.
As you can attest, it is tough to better a Thiel loudspeaker.

Thank You and Happy Listening!

I wonder if Mr. Gillum took a day off in observance of Memorial Day?

what's new in your next Thiel speaker search?

Happy Listening!

Thank You for assisting dinopau - dancastagna

Yes, let us hope that Mr. Gillum has all of the work that he can take for us loudspeaker owners. Keep us posted as this development unfolds.

Not long winded at all - Dan.

In fact, very informative and your findings are spot on along w/ mine regarding the Vandy Quattro. I did not care for the Treo model either?

During my audition period I did like the 3A Signature, still, the Thiel CS 2.4 was better, more realistic in musical timbre. I look forward in reading more of your contributions to this group.

we all hear differently. Continue to exercise speaker placement based upon your personal tastes. Test CD(s) are a nice start and will provide some degree of insight. Ultimately, trust your own ears.

Always good to see you here - oblgny

you will know when it is time to get back into the game. Hope you are well and gearing up (no pun) for Summer. Keep me posted on your situation.

Circling back around to you - prof.

I wish that I knew? It is a matter of awaiting for the right gear, at the right price to appear. Yes, I do own a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers.

As it turns out there is a Bryston dealer/retailer near me in Atlanta. I will contact those guys soon and ask which models are in the showroom for audition. I want to demo some of the cubed series pre-amp/power amp combinations. I also want to hear the BCD-3 cd spinner.

If I may, what was your trade/occupation prior to joining Thiel Audio in th mid-90's ? Once joined with Jim, what was position within Thiel?
Did Jim leave behind any journal(s) of his designs, details, works...etc., regarding those amps / cabling used his lab back in those days? Would Mr. Rob Gillum know?I suspect that kind of information is quite valuable and relevant, even today.Happy Listening!

As above, the XLO test disc is excellent. Also consider the Stereophile series-test CD1, CD2 and CD3 discs.Happy Listening!
Ah, I see - beetlemania.hope you are well and having fun experimenting w/ those xo.Happy Listening!
Thank You - tomthielWas Bob Dylan an influence on your singer-songwriter Coffeehouse years? Not  a bad idea to have a Musician on staff in a loudspeaker-making company. You guys certainly had all bases covered. Hope you guys are well out there.Happy Listening!

Thank You for posting a follow up to your situation. I will keep an eye out for a spare Bass EQ that fits those 3.5 speakers. These do appear on eBay from time to time. In fact, I saw one earlier this year.
I hope one of the guys here can assist you with this dilema. I can hardly await for you to get the Accuphase up and running. This brand is on my short-list to demo.

tomthiel
Much Thanks! for the follow up. Did you consider your self a Hippie or Folkie back in those days? A very cool personal story indeed. I am glad that you are here and posting your history, impressions and thoughts. Isn't this a great hobby?
Happy Listening!
Guys-
if you have a spare Bass EQ for the 3.5 loudspeaker or know someone that does post here, contact dinopau. Urgent need on his end.
Thank You.

I perused the Classe' thread and wanted to pass this information forward to you. Contact Audio Advice in Raleigh NC- 919.881.2005 to inquire about possible repair on your amps. These guys, at one time, were a high-volume dealer/retailer for the Classe' brand and had an in-house certified service technician for all brands carried. My last visit, demo, was 2015.  Hope they can be of assistance to you owners.

Happy Listening!
