vair68robert I was hoping that dgarretson would chime-in on the cross-over discussion. He is well versed in the oem parts used by Mr. Thiel on models CS2.4SE, CS 2.7 and CS 3.7 speakers. I will attempt to reach him via email and direct him your way. More to follow. Happy Listening!

Thanks! for sharing- shubert that whole bail -out non-sense was a backdoor deal via politics to be sure. I concur in that no public debt for private losses. Good to see you. Happy Listening!
|
Good to see you- audiojan it is very tough to beat (no pun) the CS 2.4 speaker. Very sweet and priced right, recently a saw a pair on eBay for $1700, as the dealer offered a deep discount. A steal! Should an opportunity present itself to buy the CS 2.4SE do not hesitate to buy. Models 2.7 and 3.7 are excellent as well. Happy Listening!
|
Good to see you- prof
it would be on interest to me regarding the number of pairs of both CS 2.7 and CS 3.7 were built? Glad you are enjoying both models. Very fine speakers indeed. Happy Listening!
|
As above- vair68robert The Thiel CS 2.4SE is stained in a Maple Red Vermillion finish. I believe Mr. Thiel coined it as a hand-rubbed lacquer. Very durable and beautiful. I am stoked that I found a pair owned by a true audiophile. Happy Listening!

vair69robert,
a follow up on your initial query about modern Thiel cross-over(s). I did send dgarretson an email a few days ago. As soon as I read a reply I will inform you. He has posted in this particular thread from the beginning. He has also posted in other threads related to Clarity Caps, SA Film Resistors and ESA parts. He is the expert on this subject, IMO.
Happy Listening!

Thank You- for the follow up w/ Rob at Thiel- vair68robert. Happy Listening!

Good to see you- oblgny I am interested in reading about your thoughts/impressions on the B.A.T. VK300XSE. Is your local shop a dealer/retailer for B.A.T. ? If not, where did you find this integrated? Agreed, nothing wrong with extra current on tap.
Happy Listening!
|
Always good to see you- William. TMR does have an impressive inventory on a regular basis. Prices are competitive as well. Other audiophiles in various audio forums I frequent own or have owned the VK300 XSE at one time. Never a bad report given. Same goes for B.A.T. separates. I rarely read about the mixing and matching of B.A.T. gear though. Some brands are designed to match together w/o interference, I guess? Aesthetix is another company that enters my mind. Enjoy those oysters for me.
Happy Listening!

As we gear up for the Labor Day Weekend- Happy Friday ALL ! |
tomthiel Thank You for the court update. I suspect that those proceedings are on downtime, for the short term, as well. Happy Listening!

|
Welcome! kevinaudio- another audiophile on a different forum liked XLO cabling with Thiel speakers. I have heard Nordost Blue Heaven cabling w/ Bryston gear in the past. Very nice combo. Another brand to consider is Audioquest, another sonic match for Bryston and Thiel. Keep me posted on your decision. Happy Listening!
|
Welcome! cd318- hope you are enjoying this site and the various threads. May your Labor Day be filled with music and friends. Happy Listening!
|
My pleasure- vair68robert. good to read that your query was addressed. Hope more information is forthcoming by dgarretson. Fill your Labor Day w/ good music and friends. Happy Listening!
|
Nice catch! corvette01- The Tobacco Sunburst is a very rare finish indeed. Happy Listening!

Good to see you again- marqmike, I am excited for you as the CS 2.4 is a honey of a speaker at any price. Yes, 125/250 watts is plenty of power to drive those speakers. Your measurements look good as well. Once you take receipt of the speakers, placement/measurement can always be adjusted to taste. To my ears, the CS 2.4 and 3.7 are not that far apart. Some differences are the 3.7 is larger in size and scale, Mr. Thiel's last generation of drivers in the time/phase coherence tradition and can fill a larger listening space with ease. Having heard models- 2.4, 2.4SE, 2.7 and 3.7 at length- one cannot go wrong with any of these offerings. Prices are right as well. Keep us posted as you massage the speakers into your system, home.

After all of these years, a Creek 5350SE is still a sweet amp. Some Audio products were built to last.

oblgny Hope you and the other guys in the greater NYC area are staying safe.I have a very firm grasp on the kind of Operations currently going on up there. A little downtime is great for catching up on good music.
Happy Listening!
|
Looking forward to your listening thoughts and impressions- marqmike. Happy Listening!
|
Good to see you- prof hope you continue to enjoy your CS 2.7 and CS 3.7 speakers. Like many of you guys, I had to wait 2 years prior to finding my pair. It is worth the wait!
Happy Listening!

Good to see you again- corvette01- Very insightful as an owner of both the CS 2.4 and CS 3.7. Happy Listening!
|
Good to see you - tmsrdg-
I will research your query about the 7.2 vs. CS 3.7 models and attempt to get an answer. More to follow.

Good to see you again- cd318
So long as you are pleased w/ your gear and musical presentation, mission accomplished. I can second Creek gear prior to the Evolution series ( I have not heard those amps). There is a bit of magic in those integrated amps. Surprisingly very good and a steal at their price-points for Thiel models CS 2.4 and down. Happy Listening!
|
Good to see you- jonandfamily
hope you are well and enjoying music today. Happy Listening! |
Welcome! back- stevecham. it has been some time since you posted here. Hope you are enjoying your Thiel speakers. Any updates to your system? Happy Listening!
|
Oblgny- keep us posted as you massage the B.A.T. into your system. Would you say that this integrated has a similar presentation to your previous B.A.T. pre-amp?
Happy Listening!
|
Good to see you -oblgny
Man, you took quite an adventure w/ the B.A.T. Always good to read about sellers/manufacturers standing behind their products and offering favorable customer service.
Any further idea(s) of the culprit behind the non-working amp?
Happy Listening!

We can certainly keep supporting Rob- nkonor. With Mr. Thiel gone and Gary at Bryston, it would take another special person along the order of Mr. Vandersteen whom understands the time / phase coherence theory, application, principle. Agreed, one has to spend a significant amount of money to better those legacy models. Happy Listening!
|
Sad, indeed -prof Good to see you. Happy Listening!
|
Yep, it is a company for the Audio history buffs- unsound and saffron_boots. Good to see you guys. Happy Listening!
|
Good to see you again- lalitk shortly after the release of the TT1- I contacted and spoke w/ Taylor of Goldprint Audio in NC. He has been a long-time rep for Thiel, operates his Audio operation from his personal residence and is an all-around gentleman. He did take on a pair of these speakers for his showroom and did like the build, finish and sound quality. Happy Listening!
|
There are certainly many points of interest and queries for the continuation of Thiel. I am interested in learning more about Rob at Thiel Kentucky. Did he procure a special contract w/ Mr. Thiel prior to his passing?
|
Good to see you- linnlingo the new offerings do look very similar to Sonos products indeed. Thankfully, we will always have the older/vintage models to purchase via the secondary market. Happy Listening!
|
|
Good to see you-William. I concur that anyone with a keen eye would have spotted physical damage of the amp upon inspection. Not only would the amp casing show some kind of damage, but the packaging as well. I have been observing TMR for quite some time, pretty impressive operation. They even have in-house repair/restoration electronic techs. Selling faulty gear would not be in their financial best practice. I had wondered which party, TMR or B.A.T., handled your situation directly? Good to read that both stepped up and offered a favorable resolution.
Many Thanks! for replying to my query about the BAT's front end. Across many Audio forums, your B.A.T. integrated, is highly regarded. Happy Listening!
|
You hit upon the very nature of Thiel speakers- oblgny. Clean, articulate, rich and uncolored presentation are just a few descriptors for Jim Thiel's speaker designs. The Bass is certainly addressed in a non-overwhelming way. Adding a Smartsub or REL will bring the boom into your room. Happy Listening!
|
Much Thanks! for the follow up- oblgny Class act indeed. Keep posting as you get comfortable w/ the BAT in your system. Happy Listening!
|
Good to see you- catalysis excellent thoughts and insight into this situation. You are correct in that other companies fell out of the market directly related to poor business decisions. Kathy deserved the treatment she received. She should have known better. The hope is that Rob either remains in-place and continues to operate customer service there in Kentucky. Or, he sets up an independent service in his own right as you pointed out. More to follow. Happy Listening!
|
linnlingo and oblgny- it would be interesting to learn the number of people employed at the Kentucky facility. I will attempt to gather more information on Rob and his situation. More to follow.
Happy Listening!

Good to see you- jonandfamily
You will get the next pair. I drove 1400 miles round trip to pick up my pair as I did not want them freighted either.
Happy Listening!
|
All - I received confirmation that Mr. Rob Gillum is alive and well at Thiel Customer Service Kentucky. Open for business as well. He is ready to offer parts, restoration and service for our speakers. Additionally, he is soon to accomplish 30 years with Thiel Audio with no signs of slowing down.
Salute!

Good to see you- prof Glad that you continue to enjoy your CS 3.7 speakers. JT did make quite a musical statement w/ this model. Keep posting listening thoughts and impressions.
Happy Listening!

Welcome! giantsalami
I look forward in reading about your Audio journey as well. Please post your listening thoughts/impressions on the Modwright, Marantz combo w/ your CS2 speakers. Happy Listening! |
Good to see you- oblgny enjoyable madness indeed. I like reading about your Audio journey. Very informative. As above, I did not like Revel speakers-perhaps they were not set-up correctly? Other variables? Happy Listening! |
Good to see you- vair68robert. hope one of the guys here can assist w/ your situation. Keep us posted. Happy Listening! |
