I hate cables.  I really do.

Started with:

Computer (running wtfplay) --> Synergistic Active USB --> MSB Analog --> Chord Cobra VEE2 --> Krell FBI --> Audioquest 4 --> Thiel 2.7

Current state:

Computer (running wtfplay) --> Synergistic Active USB --> MSB Analog --> Transparent Reference XL MM2 --> Krell FBI --> Acoustic Zen Satori --> Thiel 2.7

Had the opportunity to pick up a pair of the Transparent Reference XL MM2 interconnects for a fraction of the retail price so I jumped on it.

Put them in from DAC to Integrated amp.

Instantly hated it. It made the treble for lack of a better term "scratchy". So I put the Straightwire Maestros in for the AQ. That turned a colorful but scratchy sound into greyscale.

Have a pair of Acoustic Zen Satori speaker cables laying on the floor. Put those in and voila! it all comes together. I had tried the AZ cables several times and they always disappointed. With the Transparent cables in between the DAC and amp they are amazing.

Was listening to the Shostakovich 7 with the CSO and Bernstein on DG.  Toward the end of the 4th movement the brass is doubled.  The normal section is stereo right as per usual and the additional players are on stereo left.  I have never heard something so massive on record.  Live is another story.  The color was on par with what I have heard them do live.  The range and impact was there. It was glorious.

@mallikh67 Can you tell us more about your setup?  How are the speakers positioned?  What is the distance from walls, are they on the floor, are they toed in, how big is the room, do you have hardwood floors, etc, etc

I've never heard the 2 2 however I have speakers cut from a similar cloth the 3.6.

Had to sell my 3.6 due to a move so ALL I have left are the 2.7.  I'm missing some of the bottom end grunt and am looking at subs.

What are your experiences with adding subs to Thiels?  Tried a Sunfire True EQ10 that we have for home theater and it didn't go well.

Also I've been looking at the GAIA feet and am interested to see what the few folks that ordered them report back.

Cardas Golden Cross has so far been the best match

@ydjames I have the 2.7 with the Thiel outriggers.  Currently I am using the stock spikes and coasters.

There are a few folks on the thread that are going to try the GAIA products and I'm waiting to hear what they think.

@jafant I think the only difference was it makes the speaker a little higher with the outriggers and that was a good thing.  that and the outriggers make it harder to tip over ;-)

Finally FINALLY!!! got my 2.7's coupled to the room properly and am now looking at room treatments and the 30-20Hz range.

I see a few folks using REL subs.  The low point for the crossover is 30Hz for the models that I have looked at.  In my experience that isn't low enough for my room/speakers.

I don't want to crossover the Thiels I want to extend them to 20Hz.

At this point it looks like something like REW and MiniDSP to a sub using the LFE input is the best option.

Anyone tried this approach with the 2 Series Thiels?

I'm looking for the specs on the Thiel Subwoofer Integrator.  I want to see if there is a way to do the same thing with something like MiniDSP.

Also if the specs on the boundary filters on the SmartSubs are available that would be great.

@tomthiel  Would you happen to have the specs to the Integrator and room compensation components on the SmartSubs?

@prof regarding 2.7 vs 3.7 is the latter that much better in the bass?  I'm looking at either upgrading to 3.7 or building custom subs.  This will be to fill out the bottom in large scale orchestra and organ works.

@jonandfamily have you tried the 3.6 replacement tweeter?  If you did do you have the measurements with the OEM tweeter vs the replacement soft-dome?
