Thiel Owners

Guys-

I just scored a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers. Anyone else currently or previously owned this model?
Owners of the CS 2.4 or CS 2.7 are free to chime in as well. Thiel are excellent w/ both tubed or solid-state gear!

Keep me posted & Happy Listening!

tmsrdg,

I did Not see any mention of being able to "Special Order" any models of the Legacy Speakers on the now Lame Thiel website. I was just following a comment by "prof" @ 2:53.

Perhaps the OP; jafant will revive Thiel and bring us Thiel speakers and continue Jim's work. Maybe complete a 3.7SE, maybe a 7.2SE. Perhaps he can bring on some of the other people like oblgny, vair68robert, jond and keep Rob in the game. Maybe they can get the midrange drivers for the 3.5s to Last and get rid of that awful bass EQ . Maybe, Perhaps????

Just getting rid of the current owners and management would be a step in the right direction. Otherwise IMO ;  Thiel is a  "Dead Speaker Walking" (playing music?)

oblgny,

I agree; The 3.5s were magic and a true reference speaker. But as I stated, the midrange drivers were unreliable for me. Used a pair of Forte' 75w pure Class A monos and then used a pair of Spectral DMA 90s Used as bridged 200w monos. If I have read in this thread; you have had a number of 3.5 midrange drivers go bad. I would be interested to to hear how long your nephew's have held up.
Maybe you'll return to a Pass intergrated one day. I am sure your journey is not over.
For now; I have never been more pleased with one of my systems than I am now. Vinyl, Tubes, and Class A Rule.

Just IMHO there are equal and better speakers than Thiels; But you will need to pay a hefty price for them. Took me four (4) years and 8.3X the price I paid for he 3.5s

Best to you
oblgny,

Hope those mids
in your nephew's speakers hold over time. Yes,! I did lose a couple of tweeters too.
I knew you had the Pass X150.5. I would suggest that you mate Pass and Bat if it's ever in your financial future.Appreciate your reply.

prof,

Live levels sometimes. Soft on a Sunday morning; Saturday night we're rocking. Musicians listen "Live" all the time. I have a 100+ yr old  house and space so I do not annoy the neighbors. It is a brick Landmark Status. They do not build homes like this anymore. No kids. Take care of 10 feral cats ; they live outside .

How are you coming with your decision on 2.7 / 3.7s ?

Avalons are 12yrs old; no problems with the drivers. If I remember right, Kathy replaced 4 or 5 midrange and 2 Tweeters.

jafant,

Thiel Owners Need your Everything Thiel expertise. Pay attention.  Thiel is a dead company and other things like service, parts, Rob may be on the chopping block. Looks like a steep Crash and Burn dive.

Help your Thiel comrades.
oblgny,

Bought a pair of MIT Oracle ICs from TMR recently. Condition was better than their rating of 7-9. Look like new condition. Very happy with their service. Waited 1 1/2 yr for this pair to show up. Grabbed them instantly. Would do business with them again.

See if you can get the "Everything Thiel Expert" to chime in on current state of affairs with Thiel, parts, service, and Rob in KY.

jonandfamily - Good find

prof - See what they finally sell for. Look to be in great shape.
Good price might help with your decision?

Posted new pictures of room and treatments. Still a work in progress.
jonandfamily,

I did not notice the dent until you pointed it out. Should be a point of negotiation.

marqmike - Per Rob ; Is it an easy swap out to fix? I did not know that it was a passive radiator. Info here might help a potential buyer.

Are the binding posts on the back or bottom of the Speaker?

Otherwise, they look in good shape. If I were to buy; I would try to negotiate for a full set of replacement drivers to be included or price reduced for the same.

Best to whoever gets this pair.
prof,

Excellent, you have been giving both the 2.7s and 3.7s the attention they deserve to make your decision.
Yes, The 2.7s might need the assist of a pair of subs to fulfill the full range that the 3.7s have. Good luck intergrating them. I will just remind you that as long as you have the 3.7s available. You will be tempted that the 2.7s will satisfy. About a month or two after you let them go; you will hear that one note, one passage that goes; blah.
I know this is a hard decision. You have taken your time. Work the problem and make sure of long term satisfaction. Took me 4 Years to find my speaker. And I tried a 300lb sub ( Wilson speakers / Wilson sub); was amazing most of the time but every once in awhile; I would get that blah moment. Subs are a tricky thing. There are Systems that can help with sorting the subs out. Might be worth giving one of them a try with the subs.
I am confident that you will sort everything out. Take your time. The chase is sometimes better than the end game.

Best to You

arvincastro & rascs4 & tmsrdg,

vair68rober'ts post on 02/18/2020 @ 10:07 is Not quite right, actually, not right at all. I do asume that I was the friend who had Sectral's amp and preamp for 10 years.

I was a Spectral owner for 20 years, not 10 years. I also, never had an issue with my Spectral gear in that entire 20 years. Rob should know better, since I met him and have known him since October of 1971.

He has become a wannabe, that gets his info from the web, reviews of others and apparently faulty memory.

In 2016, I decided to totally revamp my entire system. 2 new TTs, new Pass lab electronics, New speakers, which I just got at Christmas 2019, ( Wilson Yvettes.) My Avalon Opus were 14 years old.

My Spectral gear, held its value very well. I bought most of it used and bargained hard for the prices that I paid for it and though it took me 2+ years to sell the entire system to one (1) guy, I only lost $1800.00 on the entire Spectral / MIT system.

My Avalon Opus went with the Wilson Yvettes that I just bought.

So, arvincastro, rascs4, tmsrdg; If you really want accurate info from a longtime Spectral owner / user; you can feel free to PM me. If we need to exchange phone numbers and talk, we can do that too.
