Tekton Double Impacts

Anybody out there heard these??

I have dedicated audio room 14.5x20.5x9 ft.  Currently have Marantz Reference CD/Intergrated paired to Magnepan 1.7's with REL T-7 subs.  For the vast majority of music I love this system.  The only nit pick is that it is lacking/limited in covering say below 35 hz or so.  For the first time actually buzzed the panel with an organ sacd. Bummer.  Thought of upgrading subs to rythmicks but then I will need to high pass the 1.7's.  Really don't want to deal with that approach.

Enter the Double Impacts.  Many interesting things here.  Would certainly have a different set of strengths here.  Dynamics, claimed bottom octave coverage in one package, suspect a good match to current electronics.

I've read all the threads here so we do not need to rehash that.  Just wondering if others out there have FIRST HAND experience with these or other Tekton speakers

Thanks.

@latebloomer   Source first, so to speak  : ) ....Eric is good at guiding one through the options and the pros and cons.

You could also reach out to Mike Kay @audioarchon and Terry @teajay  who may have more information.

It would be cool to have detail on the 1812s. If you find something out, do post.
@bullitt5094
Consistantly over many types of music the LTA was always third, the room corrected 2170 was generally second and the uncorrected 2170 was most often first.

Thanks for posting your findings between the three amplifier choices you made.

I'm curious about the above. Why do you feel the uncorrected TDAI performance came out ahead of the room corrected one?
@bullitt5094

Also, can you provide some specific details of how (in what ways) the Lyngdorf sound / performance was superior to your LTA combination?

Thank you!
This is an open question to all....

From the history in this thread I see a strong group that prefers tubed components ahead of the Double Impacts.

'Thought leaders' have driven specific choices, for example LTA, among others.

It appears that there is another group emerging that has walked away from tubes once they found the Lyngdorf (specifically, the TDAI 2170) to be an 'ideal' pairing for them -in- driving the Double Impacts. It is my guess that someone like Bill or Kenny would not have done so lightly or without a thorough evaluation (and now Bob as well; though I think Bill was driving the AZs prior to).

I'm curious as to what the reasons for this are?

Aside from the stated synergy and preferences, what else might be going on?  Thoughts.....
@grannyring

Bill, what an incredible post. And what an amazing journey. Thanks for sharing all of it with this group and across Audiogon. AMAZING!!!
@bullitt5094
On the Lyngdorf questions...
In my room, the 2170 sounds better corrected than uncorrected.

Thanks for the excellent post and additional details. It was very helpful and what I was looking for when I asked for more information. Thank you!

Just to clarify, even though you found the 2170 to sound better corrected you are still running it uncorrected? Is that correct?
@jayctoy   Congratulations on the Tekton Impact Monitor! It will be great hearing your impressions once it is fully run in, especially so since you will be driving them with very different amps.

I wonder what an all out assault on modding the Impact Monitor might deliver? : )
@bullitt5094   Bob, thanks for the clarification. When I read your first major post on the Lyngdorf it read, at least to me, that you preferred the 2170 with the room correction off...which is what prompted my confusion and therefore my questions.

To my eyes, the TDAI 2170 looks very nice. I appreciate the Danish understatement and minimalism and functionality all well displayed in one box.
LP  : )  Luckily not poker!

Liked your earlier post. Relevant questions.
@evolvist  Thanks.

@bullitt5094  Are you up for another visitor to check out and hear your setup? If you are I can coordinate around a visit to family in Houston.
@ozzy  Have you discussed it with Ralph / Atma-Sphere?

What's his take on your question / concern?

The M-60s were recommended to me in answer to a thread I started vis a vis tubed amp recs for the DIs and mine are the 4Ohm version.
@bullbuchanan  You will be fine. Also good regarding the move to Hypex NCore.
@mac48025 Tom, any updates on your new Aric Audio amp since your initial posts? Thanks.
Tom,  That's music! : )  Reading about your experience is making me happy! Keep us updated on which tubes you settle on.
@nitrobob  The link you shared doesn't load and I'm sure it is due to my system/settings.  But I can imagine.  Given your audigon 'handle' I had an inkling : )

@cliffkhz  you may want to reach out to @evolvist  I believe he has an angled room and has worked around it.
@cliffkhz and @stfoth Congratulations to both of you on taking that ’leap’ and ordering.

Let us know how it works out in your rooms and with your gear and preferences.

Adding to what @mac48025 and @corelli have shared, the better the upstream gear, including cabling, isolation, etc. the better the results.....
@audioarchon Terrific! Looking forward to hearing more.

@bronxer Your room is large enough for the DIs. I cannot say whether it is large enough for a DI surround system.

Minimally, I would highly (near absolutely in this case) recommend that you match the Center to the DIs, given the tweeter array.
They are all great amps that I've enjoyed but the 300B is where I want to be.

+1
My Tekton Design Double Impacts Special Edition (SE) were delivered yesterday evening. The build and finish is gorgeous. They are getting run in. More on the sound later.
@theachean  Great to hear and thanks for sharing about your Brilliance speakers.

@stfoth  Great combination of gear. Looking forward to your continued reports on your system. Many lightened wallets due to this thread.
@kristofa  In my more 'distant' seating position, my ears are aligned with the top most tweeter in the array. In my 'closer' seating postion my ears are aligned with the top of the midrange woofer (just below the lowest tweeter in the array). I'm quite happy with both positions, though I favor the higher / distant postion.

The Double Impacts have a very broad sweet spot (read volume or space due to the three dimensions), on all three axes.
With the spikes inserted into the speaker base, your ears (at 40 inches) will be level (approximately) with the lowest tweeter in the array. You will be fine.
Hi Tom. I received mine two Fridays ago. I thought I had posted that.

I've been running them continuously since and will likely post something regarding early impressions by tomorrow evening.
@pro-audio  Keep us posted on what you choose and how the speakers work out for you.
@brotw  Congratulations!!! That's a great pairing. Happy to hear you are loving your system with the LM and DIs in it.
@brotw   Nice to see a mention of The Bad Plus. I enjoy their body of work.

@lancelock   Great to hear that you are on board with the SEs. Should be a very sweet finish.
@corelli  As I mentioned way earlier, you should have moved to Kms.

If so, it's neck and neck. : )
@corelli  I was clocking over 3K miles living in Upstate NY, but life changes and a move to steamy NOLA has limited me to around 1K mainly city bike errand runs.

In some ways, the bike hobby is as crazy as the audio hobby. I'm getting ready to order a bike I have to drive 5 hours to pick up in Houston. If I can get someone to drive my pickup there, I might just make it a two-day ride.... : )
@corelli One last post before the derailleur really gets off track...for this thread. : )

I've been figuring out the best bike for my son (behind me on the rack)...as well as being future proof and something that doesn't feel like the bike equivalent of a 'daddy van' and adding something different to the stable.  I'm close to finalizing on a mid-tail old school style mt bike (but stretched geometry). It's a Salsa Blackborow fat bike. I'll need to tweak it so he can ride safely on the back (stoker bar, foot pegs, skirt, pad, seatbelt, etc.)....it will be interesting and fun to do. The rack is long enough that I can have panniers behind him.
The Bacchetta is sharp! What color frame did you go with (the one in the pic)?

Three very different missiles to get one from a to b. : )
@brotw   Much, much closer to Greg's! Both of you will be down the mountain before I'm halfway up, in that long wheelbase, 40lb clunker.
James, this will be my first (fat bike). I did a last hour pivot to another Salsa model...could not resist carbon, upgraded components and a more conventional frame/bike. Full circle back to the 80's rigid mt bikes I grew up with; albeit carbon over steel. I'll be dropping the 5" floaters for Fours. And moving up from 26 to 27.5 wheels once my son is on his own bike. I need a low stand-over height when he's behind me (likely another year).

They have become wider in their focus, so it depends on your planned usage.
Tom, the link I posted is for a bike that allows 110lbs on it's rack. So not a pair, but one DI, at a time. : )

Or two full kegs, with room for ice...for the Tekton meet.
@brotw  It can take a dropper post and front suspension. The 'faster,' 'racier' version is the Beargrease. : )
Jon,

Wonderful plan. Count me in, pending Terry's acceptance.

Orem, UT sounds like a good spot also. We can get some riding in! : )

The Blue is sharp! You should see what my 4 yr old picked out for the bike option:

https://www.madsencycles.com/collections/2017-madsen-bikes/products/copy-of-madsen-2017-candy-apple-...

He loved how he could be dry while I got wet (he's quite familiar with all the rain we get here).

@brotw  I might miss that 'lead sled,' especially on longer, easier terrain rides...  I ordered a close cousin today, the Carbon X1 version, shown here:

http://dirtragmag.com/salsa-debuts-all-new-mukluk-fat-bike/

Saved a bit by going with a 2017 vs a 2018...the florescent green is actually functional for me, since I do a lot of urban riding...a safety thing from my motorcycling days.
That’s great! I’ll definitely give it a listen especially since it isn’t something I would normally spin and have been exposed to, other than live. Wrapping up the evening in a similar vein to how I started, though with a 50 year gap...the classic, John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman.

Just added the Tidal album.
Good morning, Charles. It is an amazing record. You are absolutely correct, timeless!

(the album I added was the Bychkov Nutcracker)
Tom, I’ve been listening to Steve Coleman’s ’Invisible Paths: First Scattering’ (2007) a lot. As well as Tony Allen ’The Source’ (2017). Give them a listen if you haven’t already.

The Bad Plus is quite a departure from Coltrane/Hartman : ) They have a number of albums, so you’ll have to sort that out (they vary in apporach)...’Made Possible’ leans more mainstream. Or try ’Never Stop.’  @brotw may have some up to date recommendations since he recently heard them live.
