Sony XA5400ES issue

Hi group,

Need some advice: I have a Sony XA5400ES SACD player which is now having a bit of an issue.

When it's playing, I hear a mechanical "whirring" noise - it's faint, but noticeable. It's become more pronounced in the past few months. I wish I could be more descriptive, but it sounds like it's a mechanical thing; when I pause a disc I still hear it.

Any ideas? Could this be an issue with the transport mechanism?

Discs are read and they play fine.

I realize this is an older SACD and it's been a wonderful performer. It still sounds fantastic.

Again, open to your ideas. If you have recommendations for a good service tech, I'd appreciate those, too.

Thanks.

5 screws, case lifts off

you have 3 motors to listen for

loading motor opens/closes drawer, with a belt

spindle motor spins disc, (variable speed for constant data rate as disc location circumference changes, up to 500rpm  I think)

sled motor moves laser assembly below the disc on a sled/rail when reading from inside to outside.

I'm fortunate to have the XA-5400E with Modwright's Ultimate Truth Mod. I also have a slight noise on the disc drive although it does not appear...so far...to be affecting the music playback and is unnoticed with any level of sound. Maybe Modwright would be able to assist with sourcing a backup?
