when the motor runs noisy or it makes hum the motor must serviced and cleaned. After service and a precise adjustment, the motor runs very quiet. You can do that also self, but it´s a skillful job. A variac is not the right choice.
I development a new bottom bearing for the garrard 401 motors. With that new bearing the motors runs more smooth and with a better overall performance. Unfortunatly the installation of the bottom bearing is not very easy and needs some special tools.
