I'm using a ten-pack of SR HFTs throughout the room. They are staying where they are. They are great for getting a difficult room under control. Other than SR Level III power cords and the SR Blue fuses, the HFTs are the only SR products I'm using at the moment, so I can't speak for the rest.
One of my friends will be installing his HFTs shortly and he has The Gate already installed. He has a real need for room treatments. Perhaps he will chime in here after the installation.
Also, I believe that A'gon member Steve Fleschler had some experience with removing some SR products after installing his Omega E Mats and pasting his system with PPT's Total Contact. If he becomes aware of this thread, maybe he will share his experience as well.

fleschler ... Come up and hear what The Gate is doing in my system. You'll be shocked at how good the Signature IIIs have become. Frank |

@folkfreak ... The Gate is such a significant improvement in every system in which I've heard it, that I find it interesting that you're not bubbling over with enthusiasm. I'm wondering if you've installed it incorrectly. Did you connect it to a 220 amp breaker switch? If not, then you are totally missing out on what The Gate does so well. It will work off of a 110 switch, but will not be as effective as when attached to a 220 switch. If you have it on a 110, try the 220. If you have installed it elsewhere in the system, take it out and put it in the circuit breaker box, then sit back and enjoy your new, very improved audio system. Hope this helps ... Frank |
folkfreak ... Thank you for the response. I'm really happy that you're enjoying your Gate. It is an amazing device. I'm sorry I took your reserved comments to be a lack of enthusiasm and I apologize. I am, after all, a "Yanker" ... and as you know, we can at times be Wankers. :-) Best ... Frank |

If you are impressed by the improvements afforded to you by the PPT products thus far, The Gate will blow your mind. No joke ... it is that good. Old system or new system, it doesn't matter. Remember, there is a 90-day return policy, no questions asked. Frank |

You won't be disappointed with The Gate. It will not only enhance the other PPT products you already have, but it is a killer of a product all on its own.

My recommendation is to go with The Gate. I've gotten reports from some Gate users that their sound has improved by removing their power conditioner after installing The Gate. My approach was a bit different. Months prior to receiving and installing The Gate, I took my Sound Application power conditioner apart and used the TC paste to paste the entire interior of the power conditioner, including the inside of the lid. It took an entire tube of TC paste to accomplish the job. The result (after a few days of breaking in) was a very significantly improved overall SQ. After installing The Gate, I left the power conditioner in the system because I don't have enough outlets for the entire system. The power conditioner is plugged into a two-outlet wall receptacle. The turntable is plugged into the second outlet. The outlets have also been treated with TC. As good as the "modified" power conditioner was, The combination of the treated power conditioner and The Gate has provided clarity, musicality and a three-dimensional presentation that is absolutely stunning. Here's the power conditioner I use:

Your Gate will continue to improve as the weeks pass by. As you dig through your record/CD collection to pull out old favorites that you haven't heard for a while, you'll gain a new appreciation for them. Read yobi's response above, as that is your next logical step. Be aware that there is another break-in period involved there as well. Frank |
t_ramey ...I've never used the MC 0.5s, but there are those who have gained performance increases by removing them when using the PPT products. Call Tim for the Stop Its. While you're at it, talk to him about his experience with the MC 0.5s. Frank |

Congratulations on ordering The Gate. You are in for a very positive experience. Remember, it takes a while to reach its full potential. Once there, you will be wondering how you ever enjoyed the hobby without it.
Looking forward to your review.

Have any of you Gaters (or non-Gaters) installed any of the new Perfect Path Technologies "Stop It's" throughout your house? I installed 25 of them to fill every unused outlet in my home. The result was like supercharging "The Gate." Another amazing product from PPT, especially at only ten dollars each. Not subtle at all ... highly recommended.
Frank |
fleschler ...
According to Tim, putting the "Stop Its" throughout the house is more effective than putting them in the listening room. But, you should get enough to do your whole house, including the listening room.
Again, Steve ... come on up for a listening session. These Signature III's are sounding amazing.
Frank |
gcdrum ... Nice review. Last night I was listening to Duke Ellington's "Blues in Orbit" CD. The three-dimensional presentation you described was there in spades. The Gate is a phenomenal addition to a serious stereo system. When you get around to it, put a couple of Omega E Mats in the circuit breaker box. That will further enhance the effects. Here's the CD: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ellington-Duke-Blues-in-Orbit-CD/173454213762?epid=30805141&hash=item2862ad4282:g:8WkAAOxyrM5TGBrs

You won't be disappointed with The Gate. It is a revolutionary device that improves audio and/or video systems to beyond what you've ever expected. This is especially true when combined with other PPT products. Adding the new PPT "Stop Its" throughout the house was like supercharging The Gate. I was surprised at the improvement these little gems brought to the system that was already way beyond what I ever thought was possible. So far, I'm using the Total Contact (lots of it), Omega E Mats (lots of them), Alpha E Cards (lots of them), The Gate, and now the Stop Its (25 of them). I keep saying it can't get better than this. Knowing Tim and Krissy, there will be something coming down the pike to prove me wrong. :-) Frank |
marc777Wow! You’re as much of a tweakaholic as I am. You go about tweaking as I do ... one at a time in order to gauge the effectiveness of the tweak. I haven’t tried any of the products you’ve listed in your above post. The closest one is the Shakti stones. I don’t have the stones, but I do have four Shakti Holograms, one in each corner of the room. Very effective, setting aside their flimsy construction. On what to remove when installing The Gate ... I know that some members have removed devices using magnets and have gotten better results with the PPT products. Other than that, I don’t have a clue. Maybe some other members will chime in here with their experiences. My suggestion would be to call Tim Mrock, the PPT designer, and ask for his advise. You’ll find him to be very helpful with no BS. By the way, there’s more than one way to skin a cat, and more than one way to reach audio nirvana. Your description of how much you enjoy your system parallels mine for sure. I’m still in disbelief that a home audio system can do what this system is doing. Honestly, there is no longer a system involved ... only the performers spread out around the room. Last night my friend Robert came over for a listening session. I put on a reissue of the Chico Hamilton Quintet from a Mosaic box set that I haven’t listened to in ages. My God ... that group was so present, I felt that I could reach out and touch Fred Katz’s cello. Oh, and these are early recordings before plastic was used for drum heads. We could clearly discern that Chico Hamilton, the drummer, was using drums with animal skins and not the modern acrylic. Here’s the Chico Hamilton album. The original has been one of my go-to demo albums for at least 30 years. This one is mono ... you'll want to find the stereo version. No stereo versions offered on eBay at the moment. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Chico-Hamilton-Quintet-self-titled-Keith-Finch-Cover-Pacific-Jazz-PJ-1225-MINT/173870077849?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160811114145%26meid%3Dec04a1bb494c47c0b62f16f357700859%26pid%3D100667%26rk%3D7%26rkt%3D8%26sd%3D392332352111%26itm%3D173870077849%26pg%3D2045573&_trksid=p2045573.c100667.m2042 Give Tim a call ... Two Omega E Mats in the breaker panel is a good idea and very effective.
I managed to fit four Omega E Mats into the circuit breaker box by stacking them. They barely fit, but I got them in there. Also, I pasted as much of the interior of the box, including the breakers, the connecting wires, and the inside of the interior metal door with PPT's Total Contact. So, the circuit breaker box now sports four mats, tons of TC paste and a "Gate." The result of all of this was stunning.
After you put the additional mat into the breaker box, you'll want to get enough of the new PPT "Stop Its" to plug into all of your unused electrical outlets inside the house. They are not just icing on the cake ... these little plug-in devices are very effective in lowering the noise floor even further, and cost-effective to boot. Frank |
ozzy ... "Too bad the Audiogon Moderators don’t remove this thread! It looks to be PURE advertising!"
You’re certainly entitled to your opinion, Ozzy, but try to keep in mind, that what one person sees as "PURE advertising," others see as enthusiasm for innovative products that improve the overall sound quality of one’s audio system. My whole point of being on this site is to discover the new innovative products that improve the SQ of my stereo system. When discovered, I like to share that information with others. Also, I’m here to learn from others about their own discoveries, old or new. Let’s put things into perspective here, Ozzy. Please list the ways in which you’ve been treated unfairly on this site by me or by Tim and Krissy, or anyone else in general. Once you do that, then I’ll be more than happy to supply you with a list of the more than fair treatments you’ve received over time by those involved. It has been said before, but here it is again ... The answer to ideas you don’t agree with isn’t to shut down those who express those ideas but to come up with some innovative ideas of your own, then discuss them as well. Take care, Ozzy ... and keep a positive mental outlook. Frank |
fleschler ... Steve ... I have my mats on the inside of the breaker box door, resting right up against the switches. I haven’t tried putting them on the outside of the door. By the way ... you must take some time to come up for a listen. Robert is playing air guitar between the speakers now. He actually thinks he’s Chet Atkins. *lol* Frank |
Ozzy ...
I’m going to leave it at that. If what you say is true, then be assured that I am in total disagreement with phone calls to your home. I, however, am getting a completely different story. Nuff said ...

PS: To replicate my system at this point, at full retail the cost would be right around 100k. Modest, indeed. |
^^^ Guys, if you haven't done so yet, get enough of the new Stop Its to plug into every open electrical outlet in your home. They really enhance every PPT product you've invested in so far. It's like someone fed "The Gate" an overdose of testosterone.

"Stop It's" is the latest product from PPT. They are little two-prong devices that plug into unused wall sockets. Think in terms of those child safety plugs that keep little fingers from getting poked into the outlets. When treated with the PPT formula, they become small power conditioners. I have them in every open outlet in my place. It took 25 of them to do the job. I haven't spoken with Tim for a couple of weeks now, but when I got mine, they were $10.00 each. Very effective, and highly recommended. Same 90 day return policy. Frank |

Nope, my ARC gear is staying put. But knowing how fertile Tim Mrock's mind is, I wouldn't be surprised to see something else after the power strip.
I'd like to try one of the power strips for sure, just to see if it would be an improvement over the modified Sound Application power conditioner presently being used. Tim didn't say when it would be available though.
Frank |
fazee ... You’ll need one Stop It for each outlet. If you have unused dual outlets you’ll need two Stop Its to cover them. You have four unused outlets, so you’ll need four Stop Its. Ideally, you'll want a Stop It for every open outlet in your house. I have 25 of them throughout my place. Great product, by the way. Very effective. marc777 ... I spoke with Tim this morning. ^^^ Agreed. Krissy is working on it. |
Off and on over the past two days, I’ve been burning some CDs for a friend, being careful to select those with superior performances and sound quality. As I was digging deep into the CD collection, I pulled out a little gem that any jazz fan reading this should jump on. If you like Miles Davis and John Coltrane from the Kind of Blue era, here’s one not to pass up: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Miles-Davis-Round-About-Midnight-Remastered-Expanded-CD-2001-Legacy/303297971940?epid=44242395&hash=item469df7c6e4:g:A3gAAOSwZH1di7QDIt only came in mono, but like a lot of the early mono jazz recordings, it sounds very natural and involving. I have the "Six-Eye" original LP too. If you can find it, grab it. It has superior sound also. I haven’t listened to this recording since installing The Gate and the Stop-Its. I knew it was good ... but now it is just incredible. By the way, the website is up and running ... and much improved. It even has a video presentation. Check it out: www.perfectpathtechnologies.com Frank |

Jay23 ... "Do you have one such hour of masters that you’ve worked on and know as well? Yeah, I didn’t think so."
On that point, you would be wrong, Jay. You’re making ridiculous statements without knowing what you’re talking about. 1. I have hundreds of hours of master tape recordings. They are stunning. 2. You lied about your "friend" being unable to return his Gate. I know for a fact that not one PPT customer has attempted to return a Gate once purchased. 3. Had your "friend" not liked the Gate, there wouldn’t be a "past the trial period." The return policy still would have been honored. That’s just the way they do business at PPT. Plus, with the exception of "Total Contact" there’s a 90-day return policy on everything sold by PPT. Is your "friend’s" hearing and/or system so bad that he/she couldn’t discern what the Gate was doing within 90 days? Come on man, you are way too transparent. 4. Your assertion that the Gate "colored the sound" isn’t true either. The Gate doesn’t color sound. It purifies the AC throughout the entire house/office/recording studio, and allows one to hear what is actually on the recording. Perhaps you and your "friend" should reevaluate your recording/mastering skills. Honestly, if you’re going to post here, the least you can do is to tell the truth. Finally Jay ... why is it that we never see you and georgehifi in the same place at the same time? Frank |
jay23 ...
I suggest that you do not buy a Gate. Don't even think about buying one. It would make your system sound way too good and would reduce you to a puddle of tears. However, if you DID buy a Gate, I would be the first in line as a volunteer to bake your crow pie. Frank |

"Questionable?" There are no questions left to be answered. PPT's "The Gate" isn't a mere "accessory." That's simply laughable. "The Gate" is a device that is turning the audio world of those using it upside down. Read the threads. And as far as worth? Its all about bang for the buck. There has never been anything that I'm aware of to hit this hobby like it. Not at least in my 40+ years of listening experience. And as for anyone "picking on you" ... cry me a river. atdavid ... Did you watch the YouTube video I left for you? If so, did you absorb it? If not, watch it again. - "I see the anger and lashing out every time someone moves your cheese."
Wrong. I don’t get angry, I just respond to personal attacks and to those who attempt to burn legitimate businesses down. - "You are quick to tell others their hearing is bad or their system is not "resolving" ...
Nope again. It is true, however, that I have recommended ear wash to a few individuals a number times ... mostly anti-fusers. - "Turning the world upside down?" ..... a couple posts by a few people is hardly turning the world upside down.
Your reading comprehension is sorely in need of improvement. Here’s what I said: "The Gate" is a device that is turning the audio world of THOSE USING IT upside down. - "If you cared about the sound of your system you would return this, upgrade your speakers and invest in-room treatment, not keep looking for magic beans."
Thanks for the suggestions. And thanks for telling me how to live. I took care of room treatments long before I installed "The Gate." Years before, as a matter of fact. The speakers I use, just like PPT products, perform way beyond their price point. Have you ever heard Legacy Signature III’s tricked out to the Nth degree? If not, I guarantee you would be in for a shock. Out of production for many years, they are becoming quite a cult item at this point. Original price with the finish I have was $5000.00. Adjusted for inflation ... you do the math. How do the Legacy’s sound? Have you heard the Harbeth 40.2s? Imagine the Harbeths with all of that great tonal balance they are famous for, but with better highs and MUCH better bass. And at 93db efficiency, they can be driven easily, and quite beautifully by the way, with a modified Dynaco Stereo 70 if necessary. With the ARC REF-75se that is presently used in the system, the amp just coasts no matter how loud and/or dynamic the signal fed to them. Read the many reviews available on the Web. And speaking of beans, you are full of them, my friend. Frank |
folkfreak ...
Beautiful system. Very nice music shelving too. I'm curious ... after you installed The Gate and gave it a chance to permeate the AC circuit, what were your impressions as far as the changes in your bass and in the realism of percussion instruments? Frank PS: That tonearm is awesome. |
grannyring ... Thank you for the kind words. So appreciated, especially considering the events over the past week. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- folkfreak ... "Much like other system cleanups that take out the mid-lower bass bloom that many feel is impactful bass. But you hear lower frequencies that were previously masked. My system is not a bass head setup and is more about natural sounds on acoustic music."
Perfectly stated, and parallels my experience exactly. I’m finding that the natural sound of bass notes are much improved. Stand-up bass is very tuneful, much like one would experience in a live jazz performance. Also, bass drums have that natural tone too. On percussion instruments of all types, ie., bongos, congas, piano, vibes ... they all have taken on a realism that still has me shaking my head. And by the way, the PPT "Stop Its" go even further in that regard, especially in coordination with The Gate. When you get to the new place, you should try them out. Frank |
atdavid ...
Hang around here long enough and there's a good chance that you will learn the difference between "attacking" and "reacting." - "I do not claim the product will not offer some level of protection, but most people on this forum are not able to make a critical analysis of the significant claimed feature set versus the reality of the communicated installation."
Perhaps what you say is true, but you can be assured of a few things ... Most who post here are very experienced in the hobby. We/they know how to achieve great sound. In addition, we know good music and music is what interest us the most. Engineering psychobabble is truly boring to most who post here. There are a few you can appeal to, no doubt. The rest? .. well their eyes just glaze over and they move on. Personally, I could care less HOW these things work or HOW they are made. I only care about how they perform. I hire folks like you to figure this stuff out for me. Folks like our recently passed friend Tim Mrock for example. Just curious ... do you listen to music? Frank PS: I am not "attacking" you here ... just carrying on a conversation. |
- Hate to break it to you Frank, but I spent many years in business to business sales .... did quite well actually, it was how I was able to finance my own company and I still spend a good amount of time selling.
Just out of curiosity, the product you were selling ... was it a technical product, and the businesses you were selling to ... were they of a technical nature? Not attacking or ridiculing you ... I'm genuinely interested. Frank |
Okay, let me interject something here. Being in the sales business most of my life, it behooved me to study personality types. Personalities can be broken down into four distinct types, each with their biggest fear. Of course, there are mixed combinations, but each always has a strong bias that comes to the surface.
My brother is a retired policeman. He was a good cop who enjoyed going to work each day to serve the public. He’s a doubter, suspicious and takes a long look at everything. He’s very much into control. His personality’s biggest fear? Being taken advantage of. The worst thing a salesman can do is to glad-hand this type. If you do, his immediate thought is ... "what is this guy trying to get out of me?" This person has to trust you before he likes you, unlike the other personality types who have to like you before they trust you. The best thing the salesperson can do with this type is to just let him lead the way.
My "salesman’s" personality is outgoing, humorous, demonstrative and friendly. I used to smile so much my cheeks hurt. I was one of the top salespersons in my company and in the entire area for many years. My personality’s biggest fear? Fear of social disapproval. That’s why we strive to please people. It is also why we grow a thick skin. We eat rejection for breakfast, lunch and come back for more at dinner time. It is also why a good salesman doesn’t take "no" for an answer. We look at a "no" to mean ... "you haven’t told me enough yet." When you buy from us, you are saying ... "You know, in my book, you are alright." Needless to say, most people fail at sales because they just cannot take the rejection.
Engineer’s fall into a different category. They are precise, they are thinkers, they are extremely analytical ... and they very seldom make mistakes. Why? because they measure fifty times to cut once.Their personality’s biggest fear? Fear of criticism. They can’t handle it ... in fact, I’ve met engineers who can’t even handle a suggestion, let alone criticism. During a sales presentation to this personality type, when the closing sequence ends, and the salesman asks for the order, the expected answer ALWAYS is ... "I have to think it over," or "I have to sleep on it." He’s telling the truth. He will NOT make snap decisions. The biggest mistake a salesman can make with this person is to pull out the hammer and try to beat him over the head with it. Just leave the contract with him and say ..."Here, read this over at your convenience tonight, and I’ll call you tomorrow for your decision." I swear, you can just see and feel the guy’s relief. When he’s called back the next day and the salesman asks if he’s made a decision, the usual answer is ... "Yes, I read the entire thing. I like your proposal and I have everything signed for you. Come on over and pick it up." No joke.,
So, this brings us up to the present time in this thread. I try a product that I really like, so I want to share the information with others. When they try, use and like the product, it makes me happy. :-)
Then, along comes the engineer type, who hasn’t tested the product, hasn’t seen it in person, hasn’t felt it or smelled it, and in his logical mind, it has to be "snake oil," a "scam," or just "pure bunk." Then, me with the happy face, gets called a "shill," or a "con." Well, there’s that loss of that social approval thing hitting me right in the face. So, having the sales background burned into my subconscious mind, I try to defend my position. With that defense, the engineer feels that I’m criticizing his position ... and ’round and ’round we go.
Therefore, my message to "atdavid" about learning the difference between attacking and reacting. It is nothing more than a clash between personalities. No more, and no less.
Time to shake hands and move on ...
Frank |
Thanks, guys.
I put a lot of effort in that last post. It really is a synopsis of what I learned over time about personality types ... and that knowledge gave me a real edge over the competition. They used to tell me that I was "lucky," or that they wished they were as "lucky" as I was. What they didn't understand was that I had discovered a major key ... and that was to outwork them and out-learn them.
Frank |
In the first paragraph, I was careful to say this: - "Of course, there are mixed combinations, but each always has a strong bias that comes to the surface."
For example, the very best salespeople have a very high propensity to be, as I described, " ... personality is outgoing, humorous, demonstrative and friendly." However, behind that strength is a high degree of what I described my brother to be ... " He’s very much into control." This gives the salesperson a persuasive personality, with the ability to be a very good closer. Frank |
ieales ...
Personalities can be broken down into four distinct types, each with their biggest fear "Frank, that's a load of bollocks. Talk about stereotyping. Sheesh! How about two types: Gullible and Not?"
Okay, now there's a blanket statement if I've ever seen one. Ieales ... Please understand that I am not attacking you here. This is just a question. What information do you possess that refutes what I said about personality types? I've made a real study of this subject over the years, so I would certainly be open to any additional information you may have. Thanks ... Frank |
*Ahem*...
Funny that this was brought up. I was just talking via phone with another A'goner discussing the PPT products when The Gate came up. He just needs The Gate to complete his PPT tweaks. All I can say is ... The Gate is still the best thing I've ever added to my system. But then, you guys already knew that, right?? :-)
