RICHARD THOMPSON
exclusive lockdown session | #RoyalAlbertHome

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEp_q8IH6uI

Richard Thompson OBE (born 3 April 1949) is an English singer, songwriter, and guitarist.[1]

Thompson first gained prominence in the late 1960s as the lead guitarist and songwriter for the folk rock group Fairport Convention, which he had co-founded in 1967. After departing the group in 1971, Thompson released his debut solo album Henry the Human Fly in 1972. The next year, he formed a duo with his then-wife Linda Thompson, which produced six albums, including the critically acclaimed I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight (1974) and Shoot Out the Lights (1982). After the dissolution of the duo, Thompson revived his solo career with the release of Hand of Kindness in 1983. He has released a total of eighteen solo studio albums. Three of his albums – Rumor and Sigh (1991), You? Me? Us? (1996), and Dream Attic (2010) – have been nominated for Grammy Awards[2], while Still (2015) was his first UK Top Ten album. He continues to write and record new material regularly and frequently performs live at venues throughout the world.

How to Think Like Bach
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyMimOEDuqU

Pianist Jeremy Denk will perform the first book of J.S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier this year at concert halls across the United States, Europe, and the U.K. But before he does, he’s curating and performing in a series of events exploring Bach’s life and his most iconic work as artist-in-residence at The Greene Space at WQXR. Bach is not just teaching us how to compose; he’s teaching us how to think through an idea, meditate on it, dialogue with it. Among composers, he uniquely represents this sense of engaging with the nature of reason itself. Tonight, Denk wraps his residency with one part discussion, one part listening session, featuring musicians, scientists, philosophers and theologians taking turns explaining what our minds do when we hear Bach. A winner of the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship and the Avery Fisher Prize, Denk will draw audiences into the technical, musicological, cultural and philosophical elements involved in his own approach to this deeply personal work, and through this series look at how these timeless themes and shared aspects of the human experience can help to unite us in these divided times.
BBC Symphony Orchestra
Perform From Home During Lockdown

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ax8lyvuIjY

In this stunning feat of collaboration, the BBC Symphony Orchestra perform 'Final Flight' by Paul Thomson from their homes during the UK Lockdown. Incredibly, each of the 71 players in this video recorded their performance on their mobile phone. Paul provided song sheets and a visual conductor score for reference as well as a metronome click to play along to - so that they all had the same timing reference. Engineer Jake Jackson then mixed all of the audio from the videos together and was able to make it sound like an orchestra playing in a recording studio. A big thank you to everyone involved from the teams at BBC Symphony Orchestra and Spitfire Audio for making this happen!
