My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!

So I have been in a long journey looking to find the best amplifiers for my martin logan montis. As you know, the match between an amplifier and speakers has to be a good "marriage" and needs to be blend exquisitely. Right now, I think I might have found the best sounding amplifier for martin logan. I have gone through approximately 34-36 amplifiers in the past 12 months. Some of these are:

Bryston ST, SST, SST2 series
NAD M25
PARASOUND HALO
PARASOUND CLASSIC
KRELL TAS
KRELL KAV 500
KRELL CHORUS
ROTEL RMB 1095
CLASSE CT 5300
CLASSE CA 2200
CLASSE CA 5200
MCINTOSH MC 205
CARY AUDIO CINEMA 7
OUTLAW AUDIO 755
LEXICON RX7
PASS LABS XA 30.8
BUTLER AUDIO 5150
ATI SIGNATURE SERIES 6005

With all that said, the amplifiers I mentioned above are the ones that in my opinion are worth mentioning. To make a long story short, there is NO 5 CHANNEL POWER AMP that sounds as good as a 3ch and 2ch amplifier combination. i have done both experiments and the truth is that YOU DO lose details and more channel separation, etc when you select a 5 channel power amplifier of any manufacturer.
My recollection of what each amp sounded like is as follows:

ATI SIGNATURE SERIES 6005 (great power and amazing soundstage. Very low noise floor, BUT this amplifiers NEEDS TO BE cranked up in order to fully enjoy it. If you like listening at low volume levels or somewhat moderate, you are wasting your time here. This amp won’t sound any different than many other brands out there at this volume. The bass is great, good highs although they are a bit bright for my taste)

NAD M25 (very smooth, powerful, but somewhat thin sounding as far as bass goes)
Bryston sst2(detailed, good soundstage, good power, but can be a little forward with certain speakers which could make them ear fatiguing at loud volumes)

Krell (fast sounding, nice bass attack, nice highs, but some detail does get lost with certain speakers)

rotel (good amp for the money, but too bright in my opinion)

cary audio (good sound overall, very musical, but it didn’t have enough oomph)

parasound halo (good detail, great bass, but it still holds back some background detail that i can hear in others)

lexicon (very laid back and smooth. huge power, but if you like more detail or crisper highs, this amp will disappoint you)

McIntosh mc205 (probably the worst multichannel amp given its price point. it was too thin sounding, had detail but lacked bass.

butler audio (good amplifier. very warm and smooth sweet sounding. i think for the money, this is a better amp than the parasound a51)

pass labs (very VERY musical with excellent bass control. You can listen to this for hours and hours without getting ear fatigue. however, it DOES NOT do well in home theater applications if all you have is a 2 channel set up for movies. The midrange gets somewhat "muddy" or very weak sounding that you find yourself trying to turn it up.

classe audio (best amplifier for multi channel applications. i simply COULDNT FIND a better multi channel amplifier PERIOD. IT has amazing smoothness, amazing power and good bass control although i would say krell has much better bass control)

Update: The reviews above were done in January 2015. Below is my newest update as of October 2016:

PS AUDIO BHK 300 MONOBLOCKS: Amazing amps. Tons of detail and really amazing midrange. the bass is amazing too, but the one thing i will say is that those of you with speakers efficiency of 87db and below you will not have all the "loudness" that you may want from time to time. These amps go into protection mode when using a speaker such as the Salon, but only at very loud levels. Maybe 97db and above. If you don’t listen to extreme crazy levels, these amps will please you in every way.

Plinius Odeon 7 channel amp: This is THE BEST multichannel amp i have ever owned. Far , but FAR SUPERIOR to any other multichannel amp i have owned. In my opinion it destroyed all of the multichannel amps i mentioned above and below. The Odeon is an amp that is in a different tier group and it is in a league of its own. Amazing bass, treble and it made my center channel sound more articulate than ever before. The voices where never scrambled with the action scenes. It just separated everything very nicely.

Theta Dreadnaught D: Good detailed amp. Looks very elegant, has a pleasant sound, but i found it a tad too bright for my taste. I thought it was also somewhat "thin" sounding lacking body to the music. could be that it is because it is class d?

Krell Duo 300: Good amp. Nice and detailed with enough power to handle most speakers out there. I found that it does have a very nice "3d" sound through my electrostatics. Nothing to fault here on this amp.
Mark Levinson 532H: Great 2 channel amp. Lots of detail, amazing midrange which is what Mark Levinson is known for. It sounds very holographic and will please those of you looking for more detail and a better midrange. As far as bass, it is there, but it is not going to give you the slam of a pass labs 350.5 or JC1s for example. It is great for those that appreciate classical music, instrumental, etc, but not those of you who love tons of deep bass.

 It is articulate sounding too
Krell 7200: Plenty of detail and enough power for most people. i found that my rear speakers contained more information after installed this amp. One thing that i hated is that you must use xlr cables with this amp or else you lose most of its sound performance when using RCA’s.

Krell 402e: Great amp. Very powerful and will handle any speaker you wish. Power is incredible and with great detail. That said, i didn’t get all the bass that most reviewers mentioned. I thought it was "ok" in regards to bass. It was there, but it didn’t slam me to my listening chair.

Bryston 4B3: Good amp with a complete sound. I think this amp is more laid back than the SST2 version. I think those of you who found the SST2 version of this amp a little too forward with your speakers will definitely benefit from this amp’s warmth. Bryston has gone towards the "warm" side in my opinion with their new SST3 series. As always, they are built like tanks. I wouldn’t call this amp tube-like, but rather closer to what the classe audio delta 2 series sound like which is on the warm side of things.

Parasound JC1s: Good powerful amps. Amazing low end punch (far superior bass than the 402e). This amp is the amp that i consider complete from top to bottom in regards to sound. Nothing is lacking other than perhaps a nicer chassis. Parasound needs to rework their external appearance when they introduce new amps. This amp would sell much more if it had a revised external appearance because the sound is a great bang for the money. It made my 800 Nautilus scream and slam. Again, amazing low end punch.

Simaudio W7: Good detailed amp. This amp reminds me a lot of the Mark Levinson 532h. Great detail and very articulate. I think this amp will go well with bookshelves that are ported in order to compensate for what it lacks when it comes to the bass. That doesn’t mean it has no bass, but when it is no Parasound JC1 either.
Pass labs 350.5: Wow, where do i begin? maybe my first time around with the xa30.8 wasn’t as special as it was with this monster 350.5. It is just SPECTACULAR sounding with my electrostatics. The bass was THE BEST BASS i have ever heard from ANY amp period. The only amp that comes close would be the jC1s. It made me check my settings to make sure the bass was not boosted and kept making my jaw drop each time i heard it. It totally destroyed the krell 402e in every regard. The krell sounded too "flat" when compared to this amp. This amp had amazing mirange with great detail up top. In my opinion, this amp is the best bang for the money. i loved this amp so much that i ended up buying the amp that follows below.

Pass labs 250.8: What can i say here. This is THE BEST STEREO AMP i have ever heard. This amp destroys all the amps i have listed above today to include the pass labs 350.5. It is a refined 350.5 amp. It has more 3d sound which is something the 350.5 lacked. It has a level of detail that i really have never experienced before and the bass was amazing as well. I really thought it was the most complete power amplifier i have ever heard HANDS DOWN. To me, this is a benchmark of an amplifier. This is the amp that others should be judged by. NOTHING is lacking and right now it is the #1 amplifier that i have ever owned.

My current amps are Mcintosh MC601s: i decided to give these 601s a try and they don’t disappoint. They have great detail, HUGE soundstage, MASSIVE power and great midrange/highs. The bass is great, but it is no pass labs 250.8 or 350.5. As far as looks, these are the best looking amps i have ever owned. No contest there. i gotta be honest with you all, i never bought mcintosh monos before because i wasn’t really "wowed" by the mc452, but it could have been also because at that time i was using a processor as a preamp which i no longer do. Today, i own the Mcintosh C1100 2 chassis tube preamp which sounds unbelievable. All the amps i just described above have been amps that i auditioned with the C1100 as a preamp. The MC601s sound great without a doubt, but i will say that if you are looking for THE BEST sound for the money, these would not be it. However, Mcintosh remains UNMATCHED when it comes to looks and also resale value. Every other amp above depreciates much faster than Mcintosh.

That said, my future purchase (when i can find a steal of a deal) will be the Pass labs 350.8. I am tempted to make a preliminary statement which is that i feel this amp could be THE BEST stereo amp under 30k dollars. Again, i will be able to say more and confirm once i own it. I hope this update can help you all in your buying decisions!

There are more limitations when using a dac direct approach.
Even with my MSB reference dac and its upgraded preamp module, i still prefer the preamp in the mix. That said, maybe if i used highly efficient speakers i could get away with only a dac.
Viber,
Has it ever occurred to you that the issue with your hearing could be the reason why you must have so much detail?

Great points guys. I'm embarking on bringing you all different tunes with different gear so you can all get a taste of what is important to you.
I have a gut feeling that on this shootout there is a closer race going on based on the YouTube comments. I'll be posting a poll soon to see what the general feeling is with these monoblocks.
That said, i am dusting off the antileon Evo and i am getting it ready to enter the battle against the pass labs x600.8. Will 300 watts of pure class a change the outcome?
Let's see...
Final round: Pass x600.8 and Essence monoblocks

https://youtu.be/Kv-UULF_UIc

This concludes my time with the Essence monoblocks and Pass Labs X600.8. As many of you know, i can't keep everything i buy because "the show must go on" so the Antileon EVO will continue to be my go to amplifier as well as the Essence Stereo until a new king is crowned.
I don't know about beating most amps displayed here... But Viber, why don't you get some of those amps and send them to me? I'll use them with the M6 and see how they do? Sounds fair?
I'm keeping an open mind...
I just wish Viber finally bought or sent me some of the things he praises...at least one thing...
i am with wide open arms and would like to see what Viber is talking about. I am also not trying to be funny - i am actually serious about it.

145 votes on the poll and here are the results so far:

Pass Labs X600.8 --- 37%
Gryphon Essence --- 47%
Either one  ---  17%

Is anyone here surprised that the Gryphon Essence is once again victorious?
If you voted for Pass Labs, how do you feel about knowing that the minority chose the same as you?
Is it shocking to know that most people prefer the 55 watts Class A of the Gryphon monos as opposed to the 600 watts Class AB of the Pass Labs?

i would really like to know what you all think.

I also believe that Fremer is not spot on with regards to some speakers he has had in his room.
For example, he claims the Alexx (former Alexx) is better than the XLFs yet if you look at the measurements of both speakers IN HIS ROOM, you will easily see the XLF measured much better than the Alexx.
I actually spoke to Wilson Audio about this and they said they were not exactly "aligned" with that assessment.
I basically asked Wilson Audio:
"HOW can you build a flagship speaker for $200k in 2012 and in 4 short years (2016) you release a product (Alexx) for nearly half the money ($109k) that beats what was your flagship speaker? "
"Does this mean that in about 3 years we should all be prepared to see the XVX killer which should be around $170k msrp?
Then that is when they pretty much said "we aren’t exactly in alignment" with what was said about the Alexx outperforming the XLF".
They went on to say the Alexx won’t play as big, won’t throw the immense presentation, the scale, the muscle, etc, etc. The laws of physics are in full effect when you look at the physicality of the XLF".

HOWEVER, according to Fremer, the Alexx murders the XLF and if you look at the reviews from "HIFINEWS", you will see the Alexx got 88% out of 100% and the XLF 94% out of 100%. So who the hell do we believe?
To me it kinda looks like an effort from the reviewer to push new product instead of old.
I will be the first one to tell ya, when i had the Alexia 1 in here (which was built in 2012 just like the XLF), I can't really say it was veiled, muddy or horrible sounding. As a matter of fact, when i set it up with the pass xs300 and momentum monos, it sounded amazing. I can't say i would miss a Sasha DAW if i owned an Alexia 1. This is often times an illusion presented to us that new is always more refined, much better, more this n that. I think we simply get tired as hell from owning the same gear which is why we find reasons to buy the new model.

hmm

i dont think viber will respond to any of the questions above... He will wait for a question that he wants to answer and skip the ones pending...
Are Mágico speakers really inert cabinets?

Stay tuned for the full video.... With 95db of volume...
Thank you to all of you for the love and support, the good, the bad, positive and negative criticism. It isn’t easy to do what i do especially without any prior experience.
When i started this journey, i did it based on the recommendation from some of you (Riaa was one person who pushed me to do it even though he broke my b@lls a few times lol).
Doing this, sitting in front of a camera, editing, talking, avoiding repetitiveness (i am working more on this) and trying to deliver a clear message is much harder than you guys might think, but this "struggle" has helped me grow.
I hope you all have enjoyed Part 1 of the M6 review and now that we are at 5k subscribers i will deliver my promise of the DCS Rossini versus MSB Reference.

Mágico M6 CONS:

You don't want to miss this one. This will be one of the most viewed videos on my channel.
Great engineering, amazing clarity, but with greater precision you also need to step up to the plate. This is no different than you buying a super car where you are supposed to buy a specific tire size that is not widely available. You need brakes every 3,000 miles, you need oil changes with a specific type of oil that only the dealer has, etc, etc. You are dealing with great engineering that pushes the limits including your own.
It is outstanding, but as i mentioned you can’t skimp on anything here. I failed, but i did this to understand WHAT it takes to own a "super speaker" such as this.
Lastly, i know there might be some out there who might say "oh i am using pass labs or parasound with my magico and they sound insane, you dont need all this stuff that you are mentioning to make it sound good"....
My answer to that statement is: Do you OWN THE M6? if the answer is "no", then you dont understand what i am talking about here and if your answer is "yes i also own the m6" then my answer is " you aint heard nothing yet and have no clue of what this speaker is capable of if you are using subpar anything in your rig".

Of course, we have all heard that most of the money should be spent on the speaker first and then the electronics. That said, that approach is totally false in this situation. You CAN NOT buy a 172k Magico M6 and pretend that you will spend less on electronics to make it sound its best. You  actually need MORE money on the electronics than the Magico M6 itself. I mean, the Soulution 701s MSRP for $170-180k so the amps alone are a boat load of cash and we are not even thinking about the source, cables, and preamp YET!.
I am completely happy about everything the M6 has taught me and now i can only imagine how much more the M9 requires from you.
Magico M6 = Super Car
Super car = lots of $ associated with cost of ownership

I hope this gives you an overall idea of my time with the M6.

Just wrapped up tonight's video.
Constellation has arrived... Rescue in place and what you will hear could be the best presentation out of the M6 that I've had in here. Words can't describe what I'm hearing.
Stay tuned for the video tomorrow
By now you all have watched the video of constellation audio with room treatment behind my listening chair. To me, this is the best the M6 have sounded since they arrived.
It is a about compromises and trade-offs and although Constellation does not have the monstrous explosiveness and grip of Gryphon, it does add an immense amount of clarity, detail and imaging. Right now, i am preferring Constellation audio over Gryphon and you all know that i am a HUGE Gryphon fan boy.
i have received a lot of recommendations for that brand, but here in the U.S. it is not easy to have access to it just like Dartzeel. These are obscure lines that are not widely accessible to people. I’d love to try them, but it probably will not happen. Unless someone (a dealer, manufacturer or end user) sends it to me, the chances of me bringing it are as big as  me hitting the lottery tonight.
Understood, but keep in mind that unfortunately this means i probably can't get it. Most of my equipment never comes from a distributor.
Distributors are a different mind-set than dealers. Their business model is really a different animal (which i understand).
For now, i will keep rolling with the usual suspects that you have seen on my channel.
i have already reached out to see if i can get access to Audionet.
Waiting to get a response after the holiday weekend.

Different tonal qualities. I would have a hard time choosing between both because they do things so differently.
I love the inviting and romantic sound of the constellation even though it does not slam hard. Gryphon and Constellation need to have a child...
Man, that would be spectacular...

More coming your way.
Thanks for the support. I am hours away from receiving the next chapter in my journey. I am icing my back in preparation for this.
Teasers will be released throughout the weekend so be on the lookout for that.
@kren:
You back from the dead man?
😂

Well, there is a some truth to what you said above. That said, there is a video that will be released tomorrow about the reasons why i let go of the Magico M6. Leave it to me to articulate things so you don't have to suffer or be "jumped on".
Don't miss the video tomorrow.
Negative. I have been crazy busy with work. It will be with the speakers coming.
Why did i let go of the Magico M6?
In this video, i go over 5 reasons why.

https://youtu.be/8VNcfQdkPG0

In the meantime, I'm popping 1600 mg ibuprofen for my back. I stayed up until 3am this morning moving the big crates of the speakers that arrived at 10pm last night.
Enjoy the video and stay tuned for more !
I don't think ANYONE will guess this time around. Make and model?
I highly doubt it.
Damn Kren. I didn't think i had gone through 9 amps with the M6 in two months.
My goal was 10 amps but the last amp is still being built...won't be ready until end of June.

So if you guys watched my last video, reason #5 should have been clear for most but if it wasn’t then I’ll articulate it here further:
I didn’t engage with the M6 which didn’t allow me to go to bed with it at 4am. I take the blame for it because i simply wasnt prepared to do everything it needed. I didn’t know i had to do new brakes every 3k miles and that the brake job also needs new rotors (not just pads). I didn’t ask the service advisor how much is a brake job and i didn’t know the 30,000 mile service was 4500 dollars. I simply signed the dotted line and was quite excited to drive it.
It was, INDEED, my own fault. But i am a believer that you also learn from your own mistakes so i am happy with that.
Some speakers simply require more of you and some don’t. This doesn’t mean one is better than the other. This just means you have to choose how far you are willing to go to maximize performance. I simply wasn’t going to go far into it (at this time) but the future could be different.
Here is the first clip of the new speaker:

https://youtu.be/8x1kz-YwGKI

This was recorded with my phone mic. Not the external shure Mic.
You all should have an idea of the tonality based on the first teaser video. I'll do about 5 teasers and let's see who can nail it. I'll be shocked if someone nails it.
Here we go...1am and I’m working here trying to get the positioning correct. I wish I had 2 of you here toeing the speakers in and out while i sit and just listen.
Pushing these things is like pushing a bus....
You all are assuming too much and yet i bet most of you have never heard this particular song on a highly resolving system.
Understood but unless you have heard and are familiar with the song, you, me and anyone else would be assuming.
How many classic rock songs have you heard that don’t have hard transients.... Again, it’s crucial to be familiar with the genre of music. You can’t make Ozzy Osbourne sound like Diana Krall no matter what system you use.
It's rock.. if a system sounds smooth playing rock then you got yourself a big problem.
Here's the new speaker with a baby essence stereo amp

Here's the Magico M6 with essence Monoblocks:

You all can easily click on both and listen. I certainly hope you all are using headphones at the very least...
