Thanks for your input Viber6. I just want to clarify that the GT speakers you heard as much as you liked them pale in comparison to the new drivers in the 3.2 model. In general the membrane - which is crucial to the performance of the driver not resonating at high SPL levels has been redesigned and reconfigured- unlike ML, Apogee, Analysis Audio, Aylsavox and Maggie the membrane is not solely Kapton or Mylar. Even the last generation model as you and Jay heard can play at high spl’s with no distortion or resonance. Also we are looking into a design for the new model that will be breathtaking - possibly Glossy Ebony Macassar with Brushed Stainless in between or separating the front and back of the speaker. FYI- the new drivers were installed in our older model design speakers at CAF and can be heard at our Showroom in Massapequa. The point being all prior owners of the 3.1 speakers can upgrade to the newest driver that will be in the new design.

We got the best results with the matching XS pre on the XS 150’s.. Truly amazing. |
The major flaw with all preamps starts with the manner in which the volume control attenuates the volume. This is in all instances is effectuated by the use of resistors- which in turn have the same deleterious effect as the use of crossovers in speakers. They in essence rob the music of transparency and produce as what was referred to in this discussion as making it sound cloudy or in essence lacking clarity and a sense of organic purity. At Sound Insight we do not succumb to the norm and forego profit margins in an effort to achieve the best sound possible for our valued customers. This credo has embodied itself in many years of research and development of a revolutionary new preamp - this new preamp is the creation of a remarkable engineer whose company is CM Audio. specifically, without divulging the proprietary design- I can tell you that this pre does not use conventional resistors- but rather light dependent volume attenuation developed by Tortuga Audio. Additionally, there are 2 quad sets of Shuguang Black Treasure 6SN7’s and 2 NOS Bendix 5852 tube rectifiers. There are also 4 independent power transformers housed in its separate chassis and a military spec linear power supply for the OLED screen. We are using this pre with the Pass amps on the GT Audioworks speakers with amazing results in Massapequa, NY. Will try to post pics.

We are using the Esoteric K01XS on our main system feeding the GT Audioworks- which is is essentially the same dac as the K1. However, we will be auditioning the new Lampizator Pacific dac this week. Depending on the shoot out Sound Insight may become a Lampi dealer.
|
Merry Holidays to all. The Lampizator Balanced Pacific has been ordered and should be here at Sound Insight in the next few weeks. We auditioned the single ended unit a few days ago and was very impressed with how it compared to the top of the line Esoteric K01XS. Stay tuned.
|
viber6 - we should have the new Reference 3 speakers here in our sound room in Massapequa in few weeks - we still feel this is our best location not in our store in Huntington at Sound Insight as we feel having this set up in a real world application as opposed to in a store setting would give the customer a much better idea of how it would actually sound in their home. As far as Ricevs Comments on the sensitivity of the Maggie’s it would not surprise me at all that they are that inefficient - due to the construction of the maggie membrane and the crossover that is employed this is probably responsible for the inefficiency of the speaker and robbing the amplifier of its rated power. As previously stated the GT speaker employs a state of the art membrane that does not suffer from the resonance problems as a typical planar speaker and superior transparency due to no crossover on the main newly designed panel. All are welcome to audition the new Reference 3. Will keep all posted when they are set up and ready to audition.

To be honest with you kren0006 we don’t need anyone on this forum to buy our speakers- I fact we have customers all over the US who have purchased them - all you have to do is visit Sound Insight HighEnd Audio Facebook page or GT Audio Works website. Again My posts were purely as fellow audiophile posting information to other members on this forum. Right now they are back ordered and are one of the reasons we can’t get a pair to Jay. Simply, we can’t build them fast enough. We don’t need to shill the speakers - once you sit down and audition them they sell themselves.
|
Again this is your own personal opinion. i am not here to shill - My posts are informative and are intended to describe the differences in the technology of various speakers. You have no right to tell anyone on this forum who is allowed to post and who is not. As previously stated if it were not for this thread we never would have met Jay (at Axpona) and the potential possibility of getting him a pair of the speakers.
|
That’s your opinion krenooo6 I have had several members on this forum contact me and several have auditioned them including Viber6 so what you’re saying is not true about nobody caring.
|
All I was attempting to do was to respond to viber 6’s comment about bass reproduction as far as it relates to planar speakers. My intent was not to shill or push our product. This forum is intended to educate and get information to everyone so they can make informed decisions. By starting a separate independent thread would not allow this information to be disseminated to the members who are on this thread.Quite simply they would not know about this separate thread. I am done with this for now the proof is in the pudding anyone who is interested can certainly contact us for an audition of the new speakers. They will be here in a few weeks. |
Hey You don’t have to listen believe a word I say we have invited Viber 6 over again to hear the new speakers. We have had other members here on this forum over as well. They told me that they were completely shocked and amazed at the speakers performance they can step forward and put their reviews here if they so wish.
|
In response to the previous posts including Viber6 comments regarding dynamics- physics dictate the actual physical limitations of a specific driver. A planar magnetic driver used on its own Will inherently only be able to move that only that much air to produce the lower frequencies- this will ultimately pale in comparison to a dynamic woofer. The only way to successfully integrate a dynamic woofer into a planar design used to have an open baffle servodriven woofer system. This is achieved with an onboard computer which is contained within the servo Amp. Instead of using a slave system where one woofer is connected to the other woofers The better approach would be where each woofer is independently wired with a plus and minus connector to the actual servo computer. Byutilizing this type of system you are essentially matching the figure 8 dispersion pattern of the panels and are affectively eliminating the boom and overhang you get with a conventional woofer as the servo system will effectively pull the woofer back as fast as it excurts.
|
TJASSOC - In response to your post that you have yet to hear and optimally set up high end system- As a dealer I do realize the challenge it presents when you attempt to set up a high end system in a store environment. That is why our high end reference system is actually set up in a home environment. We have put in a great deal of effort to get superior sound in our offsite store location. I welcome you and any other members to audition such a system. Our store which is called Sound Insight is located in Huntington, New York, and our offsite store location that I was referring to is located in Massapequa, New York. |
Yes the size of the panels make the aesthetic of a panel speaker somewhat a non starter for many Audiophiles. That was one of the many design changes that have gone into our R&D of the new Reference 3. An even better Planar driver with only approximately an 18 inch footprint. Stay Tuned- ETA to Sound Insight expected delivery very soon.
|
Viber6 - I am picking up the new demo GT Reference 3 speakers at Greg’s workshop in Stockholm, N.J. on Thursday. Greg will then be visiting my showroom on Friday to assist me with set up and dial them in. I will let them get a few hundred hours on them and then you are more than welcome to come over. Thanks, Steve Sound Insight
|
Viber6 - As per your post - we would love to have you audition the new GT Reference 3 speakers- they are redesigned from the frames to the drivers- we have already upgraded some of Our loyal customers to the new Reference 3 drivers- unlike our competition where you take a big loss when they come out with a newer model see below video please wear headphones https://youtu.be/qhv1015PSPc |
FYI – I am using the same Shure MV8+ microphone as Jay. I didn’t want to post a 19 minute video to compare the songs that Jay had posted so I am splitting them up. Sorry for the inconvenience. https://youtu.be/ze4Enfzt9CE |
|
I appreciate Jay’s input. However, we are losing sight of a bigger more important issue that most dealers won’t take the time to accommodate the concerns and requests of their customers. Even if that means allowing a customer to listen to a pair of speakers with their own gear. We have even allowed this to happen in our store with customers bringing in gear to hear on inexpensive bookshelf speakers. I know Jay plans a specific video addressing the numerous problems that audiophiles face with respect to dealers. I look forward to that video. |
Yes I agree it should be an equal and fair comparison- meaning the Boulder monos vs Gryphon monos. I know Jay tried to compensate for the potential disadvantage that the Gryphon faced by not going beyond 82 dB but it still may not be a fair comparison. |
Listen up. I don’t care if anybody on this thread buys our speakers I really couldn’t care less. The speakers sell themselves once the customer comes in to our show room we don’t need this thread to sell our speakers. The fact of the matter is we are back ordered and the only reason we posted the video was I got consent from Jay to post videos because we were talking about the Shure MV 88 + microphones and how it would improve the audio on our videos compared to the iPhone mic. Merry Xmas |
These 2 songs have insane blow you into another galaxy type of bass. The first is a CD called Poems of Thunder from Yim Hok Man -1st Track Japanese kettle drums. The second is an American rock group called Tool From their new album fear inoculum The song is called chocolate chip trip. Both on Quboz. |
Just so nobody bites my head off. Jay gave me permission to post this video of the same song he recorded from Tool called Chocolate Chip Trip. I have to thank Jay for turning me onto the Shure MV 88 + microphone. Enjoy https://youtu.be/ewIfQUKyIcc |
A well designed speaker system- should be designed to allow the woofers to operate separately but integrate seamlessly with the midrange and tweeters. Most full range speakers that incorporate the woofers in the same cabinet as the midrange drivers and tweeters have to deal with the fact that this causes issues relating to the asymmetrical waveform of the lower frequencies smearing the purity of the midrange and high frequencies. Trust me if you heard this track in our showroom you would have your jaw drop in your lap. YouTube does not really do it justice - but you still get a glimpse of what to expect in person. Headphones please and it takes off around 2 minute 20 second mark. https://youtu.be/ewIfQUKyIcc |
Closenplay-Yes there are challenges trying to convey the sound quality through YouTube - but it is more about giving the audiophile the opportunity to peak interest enough to stop over and audition. There aren’t enough dealers out there these days and we need to support one another. Our store in Huntington NY has over 20 different speakers to audition. You are also correct that Jays room and our showroom are different, the gear is different, and the speakers are different. But again it was not intended to compare- Jay simply suggested I purchase and use the same Shure MV 88+ microphone and use the same settings in the Shure App and use and have the average db at 82 and have some fun. |
Many posts criticize the Pass as being to warm or thick-Again this has a lot to do with the system you are using especially the loudspeakers. The attached video although using pass160.8’s have tremendous clarity detail dynamics and sound staging which is attributable to the fact there is no crossover in the speakers.A lot of amplifiers on the market are designed to overcome the shortcomings of the crossovers and the conventional cone drivers that are used store energy. Additionally, most box speakers store energy in the cabinet no matter how well designed which will in turn exhibit asymmetrical waveforms. https://youtu.be/ze4Enfzt9CE |
Hey Kren 006 before you make judgments listen in person. I don’t need anybody on this thread to buy the speakers they sell themselves once people come in and audition them. We have a ton of rave reviews and customers all over the country. I don’t need your validation nor anybody else’s. Seriously, do you think anyone is going to judge let alone buy speakers on a compressed MP3 U Tube video. I have spoken with Jay personally and he has not admonished me not to post any videos - in fact he encouraged me and has he even told me to purchase the Shure microphone he uses so you don’t know what you’re talking about. I beg you to bring whatever speakers you own over here to make a fair comparison. Nuff said. |
Again meaning no disrespect you don’t know what you’re talking about as Jay and I have had numerous discussions about posting videos of the GT Audioworks system he wanted me to purchase the Shure MV88+ microphone and thought this would be a good way to compare systems to have some fun. Therefore, your accusations that we are pandering and using this thread for our own purposes is clearly erroneous.
If you paid close attention to this blog you would’ve noticed that Jay mentioned our system as one of the best systems he heard at Axpona. At the very least before we can get a pair to Jay -we have many customers in Florida and once I get vaccinated I plan on going down there and meeting Jay and we will listen to the speakers at One of our customers homes in Florida. |
|
First off Kren0006- How do you know that the GT speakers are not going to make it into Jay’s sound room. In fact just to show that you don’t know what you’re talking about I have been communicating with Jay and trying to arrange a pair to be sent down to him. This is quite a difficult feat as everything is made to order and we are extremely back ordered. Yes we are not the largest company in the world but at the same token we take things to the limit in terms of technology and how things are not just picked off the shelf - like most speaker companies who get their drivers from other manufacturers. As far as your comparison with Magnaplabar we have a lot of customers who have either owned or heard the Magna Planars and chose the GT Audioworks I can give you their names numbers and email addresses if you care to speak with them. Until you come here and audition them you were not in a position to criticize our company.
|
Hey Kren0006 you’re not the boss here this is not your thread in fact Jay encourages other bloggers to make videos of the same songs that he is posting if this clown is going to critique anybody’s system then we should know what their baseline is we should at least hear their system in a video.
|
Listen you obviously haven’t read what I posted earlier that Jay has encouraged me to make videos and post them on his thread. In fact if you have followed the thread Jay has indicated that he has encouraged other people to post videos of the songs he had auditioned on the speakers. It’s all about having fun and if you are too threatened by the speakers either because you can’t afford them or they are better than what you have that’s your problem. Your bullying tactics and telling me I am not allowed to post anymore is not going to do Prevent me from posting. Until Jay tells me personally to stop posting or you clowns get a court order to stop me that’s the only way this is going to end. Let’s see any other small manufacturer have the balls to post videos like us because their speakers are probably not worthy of it. I don’t need to sell the speakers to anybody on this thread because they sell themselves once they are auditioned. In fact to the above haters who have posted -I wouldn’t even want to do business with you and sell them to you as you are not worthy of doing business with.
|
AZKS-Yes I agree with everything you posted But please put yourself in my shoes I was initially critiqued by INNA Who is doing so with a pair of speakers that can be purchased on the used market for under $500 (as I believe they are discontinued and the MSRP was 1650). So, therefore how can anybody with a baseline like that be in a position to criticize anybody. Yes I agree I can choose the highroad and disregard these haters but I also have a right to defend my company. |
Hey INNA why don’t you post a video of your system playing the same Chris Stapleton song Death Row and let everybody else be the judge what is the better sound. |
Just to show you that I’m not full of crap this is one of my customers who’s listened to every speaker out there including Magnaplanar. https://youtu.be/-B8gmhkqFE8 |
Hey Henry021 you claim I have anger issues any reasonable person in my shoes would clearly be angry with someone like you who clearly stated that they have never heard our speakers but nevertheless criticizes them for lack of dimensionality when all the reviews extol them as extremely 3 dimensional. And Kren00O6 - you never indicated what system you have and don’t have the guts to post a video of your system. Also how do you know what is happening behind the scenes with Jay and our company. Jay never declined auditioning our speakers. I promise you - once the dust settles you will eat your words. |
Hey Henry201 when did you hear the speakers because the speakers have been redesigned they are using completely different mid range drivers and even with the older model we have many customers who have auditioned the 20.7‘s and 30.7’s and it was no contest I can give you their names if you like and you can speak with them directly. Please bring your speakers over I will gladly hook them up and compare them to ours put your money where your mouth is. |
We are willing to have Jay audition them in our showroom in NY I just got vaccinated with J&J and Jay and have been discussing the possibility of him auditioning them here once he is vaccinated as well. I indicated I would pick him up at the airport and drive him back to the airport. A round trip flight is under $200. If he likes them we can arrange at some point to get him a pair. We are confident he will love the speakers but these speakers are not mass produced and the technology involved is quite time consuming. He has heard our older model in basically a hotel room the size of a bathroom and still indicated they were one of the best speakers at Axpona. We are extremely back ordered and are presently not in a position to have our customers wait additional time in order to get Jay a pair to audition.
|
With respect To Jay’s prior post regarding attending capital audio fest. I can assure you that there will be a very good show as there are already 85 exhibitors and there will be probably more adding to the total by the time the show begins on November 2. We have spoken with the show organizer Gary Gill and he will have protocols in place so everybody is safe. We invite everybody who is on this thread to visit us in the atrium in the Frederick Room.I understand that most people would like to spend more time in the exhibits ; That is why GT Audio Works will have an after hours listening session on Saturday night at the show. We will be debuting the new Reference 3 Speakers - All are welcome. Look forward to seeing you all there.
|
Let me respond to these posts. First of all the room we had was taken due to the Covid situation we wanted a 35 x 65 room which was the largest room available at capital audio fest. We were legitimately concerned for everyone's safety and that was first and Paramount. This gave us the ability to have a lot of attendees come into our room and feel comfortable that they could maintain a 6 foot social distance. We had a party Saturday night and as a result we still had over 50 people in that room Jay is my witness and everybody had enough room still to spread out. There was no speaker at that show that could produce the volume levels and the bass that the GT speakers could produce in that room you can ask Jay and he can verify that he experienced it for himself. Due to the lack of crossover in the main panels you do not get phase shift, time delay errors and loss of power to the amplifier due to inefficiency that crossovers inherently produce, that coupled to the fact we were putting 2000 DSP Watts into those woofers really lit the room up. I had an in-depth discussion with Jay and he will confirm that if we were to put those Joseph speakers in that 35 x 65 room it would be an embarrassment. This does not mean that the speakers will not work in a smaller room as Jay experienced in Axpona. I don’t know where people are getting the fact that we were using Pass XS300s we were not-we were using 160.8 pass amplifiers. The speakers do not take a year to get I don’t know where you people are getting that if you listen to the video carefully I indicated that some of our competition are taking up to a year we are not. To be honest we are extremely back ordered but will get the speakers to our customers in a reasonable period of time.
Again I will say one thing we can put more expensive amplifiers on our speakers and yes it probably will increase the performance as Jay indicates but everything has a price point. I do respect Jays opinions and respect his keen reviewers ear.
However, we have a great deal of other reviewer’s who feel that the pass amplifiers make the speakers sound incredible and allow customers to purchase amplifiers that are not mega buck. I am sure Jay is correct and his assessment that if we had the Gryphon amplifiers on our speakers that we could have conceivably taken first position. We still make the challenge that: anybody can bring their speakers to our show room for a direct head to head comparison. We love challenges, all this talk on this blog doesn’t mean anything until you put the same speakers with the same equipment in the same room and do the evaluation-everything else is just essentially pontification.
|
Well I will say is whatever speakers that you think are better take my challenge we will put them head-to-head regardless of what anybody else says.
Jay indicated why he cannot put the speakers into the room due to room constraints. You are misleading the forum by your comments that he does not want the speakers.
Bottom line if you listen to what he says in the video he clearly indicated that we probably could've been in first position had it not been for the pass labs which he felt could have been improved upon with the Gryphon.
no other manufacturer will offer this above challenge. We are confident in the technology and what the speakers can do. You’ve had nothing but bad things to say about us from the get-go in this forum you have some sort of hard on for us and just in plain English you are just a hater.
|
Kren you have to understand that Jay was so impressed with the speakers and the technology that he decided to do an interview with me. His amazement with the speakers caused him to do an interview with me not any other manufacturer because of the fact he was so impressed with them and did not expect to hear this type of sound in such a big room .I will tell you on a stack of Bibles that this was not planned and was completely impromptu. This was done because Jay was extremely impressed and blown away by some of the songs we played. You are misleading this forum by stating that if the speakers were that good he would have them. This is not true because he had indicated if you care to read what he wrote that he cannot handle a four piece system in his room. The speakers that you are referring to the Martin Logan and Magnaplanar are not a 4 Piece system. As you know Jay has a home theater screen and that is important to him and does not want to put anything in front of the screen.
|
I hope you get another 20 years out of them.
|
We have been asked by several people and Jay had asked me to comment on the frequency response of the speakers. First off regardless of what type of speakers you buy - you should run pink noise through them at. 86 db and use an app called Audio Tools. You open the app and choose the FFT screen and you will pull up a frequency response graph that will measure the frequency response of the speakers. Choose 1/6 octave on the lower left of the screen and on The lower right of the screen you will choose average for measuring. There is a reset button so I would suggest hitting that once or twice to confirm check the reading.
I do not want to be accused of posting my own frequency response curve for the speakers. We have created a GT audio works owners group (see below link)and you can visit it and scroll down and see that one of our customers actually measured the speakers in their room. As a sidenote we use a little bit more absorption behind the speakers than this customer in order to bring down the 1 to 2 kHz hurtsas a sidenote we use a little bit more absorption behind the speakers than this customer in order to bring down the 1 to 2 kHz region. We dial the speakers in following the Munson curve which according to the laws of psychoacoustics are the most pleasing to the human ear. Rather than using a crossover which we have indicated many times causes all types of loss of transparency and inefficiency to the amplifier the speakers are designed to obtain this desired frequency response without a crossover as they are mechanically tuned. This process is very detailed and is a topic for another discussion on another day.
