The Election: As bad as you might think things are now, they would be worst if she had won. She was the greater threat. Once he gets over the shock that he actually won, he will settle down.
New Posters: Why the obsession with new posters? The current posters are burden enough.

So sorry to burden you with an answer to your question:*****
Where would we be without the knowledge, expertise and wit of THE FROGMAN??
Thanks for the information. I had no idea anyone except the leader / players had any input on the artistic side of things.

Having biases is not necessarily a bad thing. One man's bias is another man's reaction to life experiences.
Alex: I try to do what you. I never watch the news on American television. I tend to watch news programs from Europe on the internet. France24, Sky News and German DW are the ones I watch most. The liars are present there also, but I can watch with a certain detachment, since their lies do not affect me. More entertaining.
Lies do affect you. Even if you know they are lying. I do not let them pollute my mind and thought process. The methods used by Goebbels and the boys at Pravda continue today around the world.

Today's Listen: Chico Freeman -- DESTINY'S DANCE I was sort of wary and apprehensive about this CD when deciding to buy it, having seen the word 'free' associated with some of the players, but then I noticed Wynton was on Trumpet. Now I asked myself, could Wynton be involved something that was not real Jazz? Nope, unless it was a duet with Miss battle. I actually love it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Xv-EWHCscI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRih07ksHDE Cheers |
I would be a lot more receptive to Kant if he had not been German. Those people can 'logically' justify anything.
Instead of the 'Categorical Imperative' principle, I prefer the American system. That is Government by, for and of the People. Logical or not.
Kant's principles depend on someone defining the terms 'moral' and 'right'.
Remember, no German Law was violated during WWII.

The Frogman:
Great point about religion, or more to the point, Christianity. We all know of examples of what happens when it was banned / absent. Red China, Communist Russia, Eastern European Bloc, North Korea, Nazi Germany and any number of countries in the middle-east.

Furthermore, my comments about certain ’injustices’ are pointed toward the system ( read money and power) that are creating them and I realy cant understand why any citizen ( you) has a need to identify himself with everything american when in fact he has nothing to do with it, except for the fact that you share same geographical origin.*****
I identify with everything American because I am American. And how do you know I don't have power and money. I could. This ain't Europe. As the John Birch Society was so fond of saying, "Equal Men Aren't Free, and Free Men Aren't Equal".

Unfortunately, it seems that many Americans would object the way the systems is treating them and beter not to start what woud people from many different parts of the world would have to say about that 'system' as well. Not only in present time....*****
I am sure many would 'object', but not to the point where they would exercise their right to leave. The entire world is trying to get to this 'imperfect' country. Mexico, a foreign country, even demands the 'right' for it's people to illegally enter and remain in this country. You gotta laugh.
Past injustices: Well, compared to most countries our 'injustices' pale in comparison. Also, under a system ruled by Kant(German), you would have to get rid of the injustices immediately, or, enshrine them into law. Under the American system we work on them, and kick the can down the road when we have to, until a solution is at hand. The constitutional convention and the issue of slavery is a prime example.

Today’s Listen: Some Significant Recordings. (to me) There aren’t that many: At my sister’s house in Maryland. A family friend, Naval Officer, brought it over to play. Pioneer Receiver and Speakers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pejJxEs_v-s First heard in PX in Seoul, Korea. Checked all PXs. Finally took the one they were playing, out of the player, at the Camp Casey PX. Got me through Korea, the second time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwbSKsZ_ODM These two Brubeck tunes played by guys from Memphis ALL NIGHT. My first night away at college. Great tunes, but. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryA6eHZNnXY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKNZqM0d-xo My last LP purchase. Sound warehouse El Paso, Texas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwfjdF6zDz8 My first CD purchase. PX, Nurnberg, Germany. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xDv_37vwZ0 The only recording I have ever heard that I thought was a live band. From a distance, outside in a parking lot. Nurnburg, Germany. Sony speakers, Phase Linear 700 series amps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pulI3in1UgI Got me through Korea, the first time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f47TZePukuQ Huntsville, Alabama. Nuff said. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qusTbkgRKtQ Cheers |
Charles Lloyd - Requiem :
Lloyd was awesome. Just think, he is over 80!!! His opening was very soulful and plaintive. The guitar player almost ruined it. Too many notes and too fast, but the tune survived. I understand his group has been with him for a while. It shows. Great tune / playing.

You will have my 'Confession' within the hour. Just spare my family and my Polk Speakers.

Ran across this a few minutes ago. Reminded me of a Church I was in a few days ago, in the Park Cities area of Dallas. I think that's Acman's neck of the woods. The organ had pipes that reached to heaven, or so it seemed, and the organ player knew his business. I don't know if I was in the presence of God, but I was sure in the presence of Money and Power, Texas style. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNwudYT9HHEThis young German lady has talent. I love to hear her. Cheers |

The brilliance of Gershwin cannot be overstated, even if you tried. In fact, the music itself reduces these two greats to sidemen.
Beautiful CD. Even the strings fit.

Money and power were a nice combination when people like the Kennedy's had it,*****
This cries out for an explanation !!! Unless of course someone stole my Kennedy check from my mailbox.
BTW, it's amazing how much money rich people in this country give away each year. This is the only country like this.
The government cannot 'welfare' anyone up into the middle class. If they could, why would anyone work?

I think you should see Michael Moore's movie where he tells how good he lived as a child on the salary his father earned working in a factory. *****
When I read this and saw Moore's name, I Laughed out loud. Surely you jest. People working in factories now, make a good living, the problem is, there aren't as many Factories as there used to be. If your ambition is to work on an assembly line in 21st century America, you are in the wrong country. I notice Moore found a new gig.
Gas in Texas is below $2 a gallon in this area. One thing about gas and oil: the prices go up, and they go down, and the change is reflected at the pump. What other commodity can you name that ever goes down in price. Name one.
Check Gas prices in Europe. When I first went to Germany the price was 25 cents a gallon at the PX stations. The Germans paid several dollars a gallon, if memory serves. Who manipulated that?
Drug prices: The government (medicare / Medicaid) cannot negotiate drug prices with the big companies. It is against federal law. Laws passed by your liberal friends. Think prices are bad here, check Canada.

Harish Raghavan : I never heard of the guy, "Harish Raghavan"; "Calls For Action";)
The Frogman's first law may be in effect. Wiki says he is the best thing since sliced bread. Tune not my thing. Cheers |

After years of practically prohibiting Jazz in state-sponsored musical groups, the Cuban govenrment decided to create an image, for propaganda reasons, that Cuba was a free and open society and created and funded what would become "Irakere". *****
I always thought Communist regimes approved of Jazz. I remember several big time bands toured in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union during the cold war. Of course we all remember the hype over Soviet Premier Yuri Andropov, "a Jazz Lover", being a big Ellington fan. I think it was all wishful thinking.

The Frogman: Have you ever been involved in, or watched a performance of Ravel's Bolero, where the snare drummer dropped one or his sticks? I was watching this and thought what a disaster that would be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9CMPOz1SaQAny 'disasters' you can share? Cheers |

Phineas Newborn Jr. : I have several of his CDs. Good player, But, he spent too much time in the upper range. The recording had little dynamic range. Some of the tunes contained too many flourishes. Almost as bad as Tatum. If there are no horns, the piano player cannot just tickle the high notes. There must be more power!!! Think Oscar and Gene. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlUUbylwdnc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfNIVdnz1FQ But, a good album, just needed more weight from the piano. Cheers |
The current state of Jazz reminds me of the current state of politics in the West. Jazz used to be for working class folks in night clubs. Now, if for 'elites'.
Left-wing and left leaning political parties used to be for working class people. Wages, conditions, unions etc.... Now there are for the elites in the universities and professional 'Political activists'. Most of whom have never had a job in their lives.
Art imitating life??

What do you think about him and Rachelle Ferrell on the same show?*****
I would rather see and hear Lou Rawls by himself. My vote for one of the all time greats.
I did see him once in D.C. A lifetime ago.
