I agree that the 1E to 1U upgrade is luxurious and surprisingly advanced. As is the 1U to 1UR upgrade.
Ricks HF products are amazing, The astronomical cost of materials, especially on the U, UR and URR lines makes them very pricy, but, the best I've ever heard by far.
How long have you had them playing?
They get better for hundreds of hours. |
Audiolabyrinth, I agree with what you say about Rick being a nice guy with Much knowledge. I do take issue when anyone says one type of metal contact sounds the same as another because that is not true in my experience. (This could be a long conversation best left to another thread) In this case it's a small matter because the bigger issue is the improvement in sound of the URR is because of the Gold Helix Waveguide design works better than the UR Waveguide design.
Perhaps Rick will incorporate the Helix design into other products in the future. |
Is the power cords the most revalutionary product?, you know, the Rhodium plus power cord over othe products He has?
Keith, That is a good question. Theories point to the fact that power products would make a bigger difference because they handle 100 times the power of an IC and at least 20 times the power of speaker cables. I recall being flabbergasted by the Ultimate Reference Wave Guide Power Filter,( another Rick power device). It was as huge an improvement as a full loom of ultimate cables.
YES!!, I do believe the power cables would make a huge improvement without other HF products but have not heard a system like that. There would have to be extremely good other parts to the system for sure.
Norm told me that he tried to live without the WGPF Once he had the URR but the combo of URR pc and WGPF was just too good! Total retail price of the two would buy you a nice new car.
I hope you can get a High Fidelity Power Cable to your place and tell me what you think.
Once I get my URR I may bring it to a few stores to see how it does by itself. I would probably use it as the power cord for my WGPF in my system as Norm recommended. a URR pc to a power distribution device adds to the sound quality of all components plugged into it.

Thanks Keith, Yes, cables are critical components. For more than 30 years, I've benefited from having the best cables I could afford.
What one looses in cable and PC's cannot be regained by any other component, no matter how fantastic or expensive it is. HF cables are one of the finest components I've ever experienced!
Another critical component is the room, ignore that at your own peril.
I've rebuilt the walls, ceiling and floor for audio and have 37 finely tuned custom tube traps. So, even crazier than first thought! ;-)

Calvinj, I hear that you may audition the HF UR speaker cable, that is Great! I believe The UR cable has the same qualities as the UR power cord. Amazing, hard to believe realism.
A reminder; the power cord sound wonderful quickly, the cables take a long (long) time to be their best. Especially if you we're not using a magnetic speaker cable before hand. Do to the fact that magnetic permeation of the components is part of the desired effect of magnetic cables, and that permeation takes time, say 600 hours. Even if they do sound good or great right away, they will sound much better with playing time.

Powder1, Good question. I hope to have a full answer this week as my URR PC will hopefully arrive very soon. Yes, it seems reasonable to think the HF UR power conditioner (WGPC) would be of more benefit to the system as a whole. Although the URR pc has advanced waveguide technology over the UR power cord. I've read that the HF UR WGPC was preferred over the HB Powerslave Acrylic and that the URR pc was more real sounding that the Stage III Kraken. Tbg has both URR pc and WGPC and said he could not let go of either, so You will be amazed by either and even more amazed by both. You can't go wrong with either. If you hear them, you will not want to let go. I plan to take Tbg's suggestion and plug the URR into the WGPC that way getting the benefit of both on all components. ?WWRD? I wonder, what would Rick do? |

As I interpret what Rick told me," although breaking in wire on there devices works to some degree…due to the magnetic permeation of system components.. It takes breaking them in with the system they will be used on."
The one way it works faster is if you have had another magnetic cable plugged into the system prior to this cable.
This is not speaker wire, not wire in the traditional sense so, we may need to see if the very different Magnetic Conduction requires different methodology. Your break in experiment may help determine this. Thanks Dave |

Chris_launder, Yes, every step up the HF line is amazingly better than the next. The HF power products are equally as astounding. UR series cannot be imagined or described with overused words. Listening is the only way but if you listened, you may have to make a tough choice between HF and Wife.
For good or bad- I have no wife, my cars is 10 years old and my kitchen is 30 years old- but I have all the HF goodies. ;-)

HF URR PC report
Thursday morning my High Fidelity Ultimate Reference Rhodium magnetic conduction power cord arrived. Hooray !!
plugged it in to my filter (HF - UR- WGPC) at 9 am and let it warm up, break in , settle down for 4 hours play time.
It was definitely a purer sound with improvements everywhere but still sounded a bit tight.
At 6 hours it was sounding more relaxed and at 8 hours even more so.
At 9 hours I put the old cord back in and UGH!!! pretty awful!
So back to the URR… AAH!! Much Better!
The URR handles complex passages better and more dynamics too.
The tones are richer and fuller, the background quieter
veils removed my friends,, veils removed!
more natural sounding. I hear deeper into the music.

Friday 15 hours of play time (plus amp on idle at night)
Wow!! it has really changed rhelms today.
Evaluations are hard because I’m moved to sing and dance about with

Shocking to discover just how much wonderful magic is lost in ordinary
power cords. My integrated amp seems to work better now as increases in volume now sound more like an increase in detail and dynamics, rather then just louder.
Tried my old power cord again, after warn up it sounded very good.
BUT.. WOW... was going back to the URR is amazing! Truly AMAZING!
I can tell the are the same songs but OMG how they’ve changed.
It’s like an Ultra High Def compaired to standard braodcast. Much More than just better in every aspect, the URR is in a different Galaxy!
The whole musical show is so much more present in the room.
Gone from the blackest background to NO background at all.
Moved from a very solid image to Too real an image to be called an image.
Yes Friends, I’m having trouble giving an analogy because A.) I’ve never experianced anything like this before. and it’s a good bet no one has...
B.) No mear words would let you know what I’m hearing. I mean, what does “ SO TOTALLY BETTER THAN ANYONE COULD DREAM POSSIBLE” do to describe the sound? Saying A is much better, and that B is way better, would keep it in the vasinity of normal worldly improvements.
No matter how much better that better can be, it would fall far short of describing this total quantim shift in musical reproduction I have witnessed.
Perhaps I’ve said everything and nothing but you would have to experiance the URR to know it. Dangerously good and worth every penny! Cheers D |

I'd say 600 hours was the break in time for the speaker cables if they are the first magnetic cables used as speaker cables. The UR spk cable sounded great very soon as I had had the Ultimate spk cable in for 6 months. It will be interesting to hear how the improvements present themselves over time in your system.
Another interesting fact is how Ricks power cords make the same or even more miraculous an improvement as his signal cables.
I sent in my first report on my URR power cord yesterday (6/27) but my posts often take several days to appear.

Chris_launder, Hi and welcome. I agree with CalvinJ's statement last week that HF speaker cables work with any speaker. Also, each step up the High Fidelity line is surprisingly advanced over the next. These are not cables in the traditional sense and they produce music like I never imagined. Every level is a new world. each successive level has an order of magnitude strong magnets. part cost for each level is almost an order of magnitude more expensive too.The CT-1 has qualities better than most cable brands. the "E" is more refined, with better…. everything!
at Ultimate, the is a huge jump in quality, unbelievably good, (really)
and one would be hard pressed to fine any cable as satisfying and "real" (I've not heard better brands). the Ultimate Reference must be heard because words can't adequately explain what the experience is like. ( I've tried)
Adding power cords and filters from High Fidelity create, yet again, an exponential increase in sound quality.
Yes, I would exercise my "audition option" and try any HF you can afford. Warning... it is extremely painful to listen to the ones you can't afford and to have to give them back.

Lak, Ozzy, hello! about cable cooking and breakage in magnetic cables.
Even though the used Ultimates have 1000 hours on them, they will still need to settle in and effect YOUR system. It's manufacturer calls it magnetic permeation but whatever one calls it it takes time to sounds its best like most audio products. Cable cooker is for wire and this is not wire, so although cooker gives you slight improvements, time is the only solution. suggestion- relax and enjoy the music!
Note for the whiners, I answered this question before so add it to your pointless and ignored complaints. Sorry your lives have left you with only bitterness and negativity and a need to share that. Love D |
Calvinj, I agree with Tbg that Essence of Music makes the best disc cleaner by far and I actually does let you her more of the essence of the music. I also recommend Marigo Audio' Labs "Ultima Signature Mat" and
Hifi Tunings Disc demagnetizer (demag not in production) as the very best mat and disc demag I have used. It would be pointless to me NOT to use these 3 items as the greatly enhance music quality and enjoyment in my system and helps show what the HF cables can really do. I also use isolation, damping and shielding tweaks on all of my HF Magnetic products to further increase the gap between them and conventional products. I also use a lot of Stillpoints everywhere. |
Chris_L, I use a number of things to raise my cables. I find Epi wood
in 4x4 pieces of varying heights work well on my power cords. Epi is very hard to cut because it is so hard but does not have the negative
ringing effects of stone, metal, plastic, ceramic ext.. I also damp power cords and cables from vibration.
On Magnetic wave-guides, I use a combination of isolation platforms and Stillpoint mini's. ( plus damping and shielding )
The Iso platforms are built buy a friend Stan. We spent years perfecting the design. Right now I am using 6 different sizes of iso bases in my system and have musical benefit by using "super-isolation" on some components. (= a stack of 2 iso bases and 3 levels of Stillpoints ) Obviously--For audio crazies only. But the sound, WOW!!! |

I did have the founder of the Houston Audio Society over to listen Saturday and she used the word Fantastic to describe the sound.
Long time musicians with extensive recording studio time have been impressed. Audio reviewers also (Not at all humble I guess). I'll stop listing by saying many golden eared folks who are honest to the point of rude have said they never heard anything as good.

HF URR PC further insights. Hi Friends, an adjunct to my power cord report of 6/27, with another 250 hours on the cord or 300hrs total
there is more, much more. The extension, power, silent background, speed, tone, texture, involvement, emotion all obviously improved.
I muse as beautiful music washes over me, This is so real- Wow-
how can I describe even better than amazing? It's so many little clues to give more of a sense of live. A cymbal gives off a wider range of tone and texture as I "see" the symbol tilt and float in space as it's struck. The bass drum has more power at lower notes than before and I can hear the tone and texture of the drum head much more clearly. Vocals sweet organic breath floating effortlessly in the air. Tunes we enjoyed were so improved they sounded like different music performed by more talented folk. Stringed instruments sing like never before and I can hear the materials used to build them like they were in my lap. Much harder to listen without getting lost in the music.

It was amazing within 3 hours but got better for 300 hrs. in my system.
I've had so much to be excited about in audio this past few years. So many new uplifting and educational listening sessions with each level of HF gear. It's like discovering audio all over again with each upgrade.
Since the higher levels of the High Fidelity line do more magnetic conduction, they demonstrate even greater improvements over electrical conduction. Lots of musical stuff happening that i didn't think was possible so It's been the greatest time in my decades of audio.
Magnetic conduction becomes more amazing to me the more I research it. And there are soon to be magnetic conduction components as well. I thought, when I first read about Magnetic conduction, that it was a world changer! I am even more convinced several years and 100 tests later.

Yping, You ask how much CT-1 cost and where to get. There are many answers but first it might be helpful to know what State or country you are in? Also CT-1 refers to a line of products rather than one type of cable. Adding that CT-1 is the name of the entire series from CT-1 to CT-1 E, to CT-1 U, Ct-1 UR, - Ct-1 URR. So, you would have to be more specific as to which piece you are asking about.
On another note… This site is on audiogon and they do not allow suggestions of places to buy other than audiogon.

Jafox, Chris, I understand the dilemma of audio equipment costing more than I can afford. Especially when the high dollar stuff seems too good to be true. In my experience High Fidelity Cables ARE THAT GOOD!!!
The UR series of CT-1 would have to be heard to be believed because it is beyond our knowledge and experience. The rare earth super magnets used in the UR are prohibitively expensive and only made in China during the summer months. imagine $100,000.00 magnet orders.
Rick is one of those audio guys, like me, who gets excited about the best audio possible and works continually toward that goal. NO limits Audio requires a continuing input of time and money and is as impossible to complete as seeking perfection in any other field. We do it because we love it! We love the challenge as much as the result.
Money and morality are popular topics in the world as they should be but this IS a thread about High Fidelity Cables. I say they are better than I could have imagined and warn folks not to listen if they can't afford. Beyond that, I can say I'm more delighted and thrilled by what I am listening to than I've been in nearly 40 years of audio and hope you all get to a place like that.

I'm enjoying my system soo much these days. It's playing all the time.
lush-beautiful- solid- real- involving - engulfing- goose bumpy.
High Fidelity Cables are a huge part of that. Bigger than any other component in my system. I've been trying cables since the 1970's, expensive known brands, and local attempts at greatness, self built. ALL WERE A PALE SHADOW compared to what I hear now with HF cables, cords and filters. Hence my enthusiasm!
I'm the kind of guy who hates watching sports if the announcers ignore the game to talk about their opinions. Stay with the game guys!
I'm also a guy who scrimped and saved my whole life to pay for a few rent properties. Now that I am in my golden years (with golden ears),
and single, I've set aside my life of poverty and service to others to enjoy the time I have left. My dad died poor and worried about money even though he worked several jobs. This made me consider living for a living in stead of working for a living.
I love this thread and reading about friends experiences with HFC!!

I've had great sounding systems for decades but the High Fidelity Parts is my single best improvement ever.
My amp designer tells me my custom integrated amp is just weeks away. ( after more than a year perfecting the design and build )
When it arrives I will have to completely disassemble my system and rebuild it to fit the 3 chassis unit. Then a month of break in followed by months of tuning.
My speaker designer is in the planning stage of my new speakers.
Once built, we will spend months perfecting the prototype.
Today, even with a loaner amp and speakers, it is the best system I've ever heard, felt, or been engulfed by.

Calvinj, It going great for me audio wise. The music is on and so is my grin. Had a friend over yesterday and we listened to many many types of music. Alternative, metal, rap, spiritual, classic rock, classical music, jazz, blues, reggie, hop hop and more. Enjoyable time.
I got some C37 varnish especially formulated for audio parts in 2 days ago. Developed by Dieter Ennemoser, a Violin maker & player, audio technician, audiophile in Germany. since at least 1998 Dieter has been improving on the product and the latest, ( C 37- 8.9 ) is the best ever. I've painted some on some small parts. WE will test during our Saturday testing session and decide on effectiveness and next steps.
Also, I'm planing a trip to Houston soon to bring some High Fidelity Cables to a number of my audio friends There. I'm having HFC build me a URR power cord and a UR 1M IC. I will bring my UR digital, U speaker cable, my custom 20A URR PC and other CT-1 stuff I have. I might even bring my UR speaker cable and my UR WGPC.
My new amp is almost ready too, With all the parts functioning, we discussed and implemented the final main chassis layout. I'm having all the control switches mounted inside the main unit. This Oddly non commercial design removes over 2 feet of battery current wire. (1/2 a foot less is an audible improvement so 2 feet less is great!) Switches inside is no problem for me because….I never use covers on audio components because it seems to restrict the "OPENNESS" of the sound. Unless you Might have a very tall cover with 8 to 12 inches of empty headroom space. I do internal RF/IF shielding where necessary for "top off" interference issues. [ more secrets reviled].
SO Music makes me happy and is my remedy for the Anguish and Frustrations in dealing with the painful, ugly sides of human nature.

High Fidelity cables have given me the greatest audio Joy I've experienced in 35 years of audiophile listing. I never imagined audio could sound this amazing! My music is on more than ever and is so damn real sounding it seems impossible. Had people over 3 times this week to listen to this most impressive sound and have 2 out of town groups coming this weekend. Ricks cable are so great!! I'm bringing some to my audio friends in Houston maybe the next weekend.
I have a full loom of UR cables that are in a league of their own as far as music quality. I am also using A URR power cord and a UR WGPF (magnetic power filter). Each item is unbelievably fantastic and the combo is superb in every way! I've had all the different level of High Fidelity Cables. The CT-1 was amazing and every level up was Shockingly Superior to the previous. The sound I have now would be impossible to describe well enough to give you any understanding of
what I experience. Partly because if you haven't actually heard it you have no reference to draw on as Nothing else sound this mindboggleingly outofthisworld good.
Ive tried to read some posts lately but some only say Blablablabla like what Snoopie hears when humans speak. Other posts about what High Fidelity cables are like have been very interesting, Thanks!

All agreed it was the best system- music playback- sound- that they had ever heard. ( including me ) The sound is so PURE, so NATURAL, so REAL it's SHOCKING.
I got to fine tune the tube traps in the morning and made a 2 NEW improvements during the day, one with C-37 violin lacquer, one with RF/IF damping.
I got to discuss and demonstrate tweaks for over an hour and explain my theories as to why this sound is so unique. High Fidelity Cables and magnetic conduction were a big part of the talk because they are responsible for a lot of the Greatness of the sound.. I've ordered more HF UR cables for my system and I'm excited about their arrival.

Great News!!! I'm getting two or 3 more High Fidelity Power cords to try as well as a UR IC and some other cool parts Tomorrow!! I'm very excited by this and more excited that Rick and his crew will stop by to listen this weekend!!! since Rick last heard it I've gone from full loom Ultimate to full loom Ultimate Reference, added a URR power cord and have made 100 other tweaks and improvements and a year of break in. He seemed somewhat impressed last time and now its galaxies better. What fun and excitement!!!!

Audiolabyrinth, I customize everything so it sounds better. My methods are too complicated for an easy description. Perhaps I'll offer a 6 month course some day. ;-) Much of my customization is unsanctioned and wild so I don't go into detail here.
