Help with Meridian 598 DP

I just bought the new Steely Dan "Gaucho" DVD-A disc (my first DVD-A disc). I am feeding the Meridian 598 signal out of its auxillary digital output via S/PDIF to a dCS Purcell upsampler, then into and Elgar D/A converter. This is a two channel setup.

My problem: I cannot get the disc to play in stereo. When I select the stereo option on the disc menu, I get "no input" on the Purcell. If I play it in "surround sound" mode, the Purcell picks up a signal, but I only get 2 of the 6 channels, so backgroud vocals and horns sound far away.

I have gone over the manual several times and tried just about everything I can think of, but still no stereo.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

I do not have a Meridian, but it appears to me that you are trying to pass a hi-rez digital signal which will be flagged for copy protection via non-copy protected S/PDIF. Meridian does have a proprietary MHR link for passing hi-rez for some models of 598. See http://www.meridian-audio.com/apps/598%20FAQ_v2.pdf for a FAQ on 598. There is also a Meridian owners forum at http://www.softronix.com/cgi-bin/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Meridian-II&number=2&DaysPrune=20&LastLogin= I believe you need to register to post. If you do not get the info you need here, you may try that forum for help.

Thanks for your help, Will.

I posted the question the the Meridian owners forum and got an immediate reply. It appears you cannot use the aux digital output for DVD-A. The only suggestion so far is to use analog!

I currently feed my Elgar directly into my amp, so I do not use a preamp. I am wondering if I could use a Meridian 568.2 surround processor (which I also don't have) to get digital stereo output?

Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Dave.
The answer is to use the L/R digital output instead of the aux digital output. Turn off MHR and set the output rate to 48, Works like a charm!
