Steve, I like Sablon cables at a reasonable price. Six Moons have had good results with Allnic ZL5000 cables but at a higher cost. There are so many brands of cables but not many good ones it seems. Clear Day I’m unfamiliar with.
Robert, thanks for the link.

I suggest trying some other amps mentioned in this thread as being compatible with the Nenuphar’s. My own experience is with the Bakoon 13R which I can highly recommend.
Stephen, I’m pleased to hear that you are enjoying the Cube Nenuphar’s. Thanks for your initial review and I look forward to your further thoughts.
Stephen, thanks for keeping us informed. I have not had the opportunity of trying the LTA. Out of the solid state amps I can recommend the Bakoon 13R integrated amp with Cube Audio speakers. Grandinote and Trilogy may also be worth auditioning.

David, my suggestion is go through the USA distributor and he will be able to give you prices for the conversation and cost of drivers etc.

Cal, agree.

Ricevs, yes I concur, I first tried this 30 years ago with good results.

4mm and wise to do it horizontally. Some padding under so not resting on connectors. Stainless steel non magnetic hex is a good idea, thanks jollytinker.

For those looking for a preamp to go with First Watt etc. you might take a look at the Allegri Reference by Townshend Audio. Its a high quality passive design.
Stephen, might be worth looking at Dueland cast graphite resistors. Attach to high quality male and female banana preferably by crimped connections if possible or crimp to spade at amplifier end.
@keithr not wanting to go off on a tangent here so if you care to PM me regarding my thoughts of pros and cons of Boenicke vs Cube please feel free. We are dealers for both brands in the U.K.
Stephen, yes please let us know how the Duelands perform. If they work you might consider stabilising them by strapping/glueing them to a suitable material in the form of a platform or block incorporating a high quality amplifier terminal at one end and a flying lead terminated in a high quality spade to attach to the VR. A sort of “bullet” if you like.
@coot, hard to say without trying and comparing with a known reference that works with the Cubes. Perhaps approach the US distributor and see if he can help you out? What are you using at the moment?
Agree, I think the Allnics could be a good match. If/when ready we have both the 10 inch and 8 inch Nenuphar’s you can try at home. Let me know.
Lots of talk about First Watt but also consider the Bakoon 13R which imo works excellently with Cube Nenuphar’s

Bakoon: to correct some misunderstandings.

The Company is run from the USA, with manufacturing at this time in South Korea.

If you reside in the USA then contact Bakoon directly.

In Europe contact your local Bakoon appointed dealer. If you are in the U.K. and would like to try please let me know.

The margins for a dealer vary quite considerably depending on the brand. The margin for Bakoon is so slim that I wouldn’t consider discounting even if I was allowed. There are many products that have over inflated prices, Bakoon isn’t one of them. At £6k for an integrated amp it punches way above its price point in both sound quality and modern design.
Horning are pretty good but like Cube more, personally. No cross over makes a huge difference, it’s just a very difficult art to get the drivers to work over a wide bandwidth. Cube cracked it.

@stephendunn I have the 2020 version unpowered into the Bakoon dac. I see Mark Coles has now introduced an even higher model called the Evo, not tried yet. His LAN cable was the best I tried as well.

I started a thread called Cube Nenuphar’s and Mini Nenuphar’s on WBF in December 2019. Only one other posted.
Agree with David, no Lowther “shout”.

Plenty of bass slam with Bakoon 13R. I have some recordings of percussion groups which clearly demonstrate this.

Good to see the Bakoon 13R and Enleum 23R now getting the recognition they deserve.

@V10 thanks for your comparison, very useful. What other amps have you had experience of my I ask?

ricevs, good suggestions about OB and direct wiring but can I suggest a separate thread on OB designs for a fuller discussion. I would chime in since I have a number of designs and drivers in mind and intend to put them together this year including field coils.

Direct wiring does have benefits, I’ve tried. Ricevs, let us know if you start that OB thread.

Thanks David for the advice.

ricevs, I’ve been there and done it 30 or so years ago. I agree it does make a difference direct wiring. As a Cube dealer I’m not going to recommend as this would inevitably disqualify the warranty. It might be possible to specify when ordering but doubtful? Manufacturers make compromises for commercial reasons.

I’m not convinced about Bybee though, I have some but not tried with Cubes.

Just for clarity; at the present time there is only one version of the Enleum and that’s the 23R. Any other references are for older Bakoon models.

Glad to hear positive feedback on the Bakoon 13R. As said, the amp can be operated as an amp only or integrated with its own volume control. There are a limited number of switchable inputs. I choose to run it with just the Bakoon DAC connected via BNC and it makes for a very compact set up. The Bakoon DAC is smaller than the amp. This is feed from a Fidata server.
Thanks Robert for the reply.

Currently I’m using the Bakoon 13R with a Bakoon dac, which is out of production. We should see a new dac from them at some point.
Hi rwpollock

could you elaborate please on your particular set up for evaluating these amps, the make of preamp and/or dac used with the First Watt amps and dac if any with the Bakoon and LTA? Do you use the VR with its dac board?
Srajan once told me he was very fond of the Allnic cables. Seems like a company with a good product line up.

I have to say I’m not a big fan of IsoAcoustics solutions using rubber or solutions using spikes for that matter either. I’ve had much better results using rollers and cups in combination with springs. It can make it complicated when trying to seismically isolate speakers. It’s far easier with components where one can use the rollers directly under components arranged in a equilateral triangle on plan around the centre of mass and they in turn sit on plates of slate with springs under the slate to take care of vertical isolation. You can use small inner tubes for the springs set at a low pressure to achieve a low resonant frequency or appropriate metal springs like the ones on ebay or Machina Dynamica.
Funny, I was talking about SPEC CORP the other day with the U.K. dealer friend of mine and he rated them. Thanks for the information.
I echo what Stephen has said and agree high quality live recordings are very satisfying. I mainly play jazz of various flavours but the Nenuphar’s also work for me with classical and rock.
My understanding is SPEC doesn’t sound like typical class D. Robert, what SPEC amp do you have and have you tried it with the Nenuphar’s?
