Creedence Clearwater Revival CDs

Category: Music

All eight of the original CCR albums have been remastered using an (apparently) new high quality JVC process. According to the liner notes: "This album was mastered in analog using the 20-bit K2 Super Coding System. Developed by JVC, this system integrates three important digital audio functions: (1) Uses the JVC 128 times over-sampling high resolution analog to digital converter (2) Resolves the high resolution 20-bit signal to the 16-bit CD format while retaining thr integrity of low level information (3) Effectively eliminates time base jitter in the digital data stream. The end result is a CD of extra-ordinairily higher resolution than that of todays conventional CDs. The 20-bit Super coding system allows the listener to hear every subtle sonic nuance from the breathing of the muscians to the explosive crack of the snare drum. Enjoy." I requested the 8 CD set for Christmas and was so rewarded. So, how do they sound? See below. Craig

Fogerty fans: Opinions about his solo releases? I'm digging "Blue Moon Swamp" at the moment. Cuts 9, 10, 11 an especially good sequence -shows great deal of maturity. Amazing how his voice holding up over the years. One of my old "Home Boys" such a fan he named his business "Complete Carpet Repair". Happy New Year!
I did an A-B test of Gold DCC version of Green River to the new remastered version. I thought the new version was superior (better detail). I sold my other Gold CCR CD's and bought the remastered ones.
garfish: have you had a chance to compare the newly remastered cd's to any of the vinyl issues? i'd be particulaly interested in learning how it compares to the mfsl pressing of "cosmo's factory" (which isn't among the greatest mofi's, IMO, but betters the original wax.)
CFB; I don't own a TT, but recently auditioned an inexpensive MMF-5. I had an original pressing of CCR Chronicle Vol. 1 in very good shape, and compared the song "Green River" to the Gold CD, and I must admit that the vinyl was better-- more natural sounding with good rhythm and bass. No longer have the TT, but I do think the "new" JVC remaster of this song would be pretty competitive with the very good vinyl version. Cheers. Craig
