One can think of 20-times-2 plus 4-times-2 reasons NOT to get the ARC110b. The first 20, because it's a twenty-year-old piece of gear (not that it's bad for one to own quality stereo equipment for 20 years, but why buy NOW something that has definitely been superceded?). And the second 20, because it has 20 TIMES THE DISTORTION that a quality receiver currently has. As a test, borrow from a friend a recently manufactured 100-watt receiver. Crank that up with your ADS speakers and get ready for a revelation. Then go out to your local discount electronics store and for under $400 you can get a receiver with four or five 100-watt channels of state-of-the-art amplifier technology, surround sound and a remote control to boot. Plus 4-times-2 reasons more: the ARC 110b will weigh four times as much (92 lbs if the memory faileth not) and cost four times more. That's a lot of reasons.
Blowen Amp, Looking for replacement, any thoughts
This past weeked I fried the right channel on my Sumo Polaris amp. Sumo is no longer around and the mosfet transistors are also discontinued. I don't have any way of crossreferencing the parts so a repair is unlikly. If you have info please foward. So this brings me to replacing my amp. I am planing to continue using the Sumo Athena pre-amp and ADS L1290 speakers I have for a while but would like some suggestions on power amps in the 1000.00-2000.00 range. I have a friend that uses an audio research D110b. I have found one at this site and am considering that unit unless someone can give me a good reason not to. Thanks DaveL.
